please help - Scotland advice wanted
Posted by: phil on a fazer - 17-07-12, 01:41 PM - Forum: General - Replies (41)

Hi

I'm planning a trip to Scotland at the end of September. I will be travelling from Worcestershire to Ullapool to meet up with some peeps. I've roughly planned a trip but I'm looking for as much info as I can.

Going to travel up from Worcestershire to Dumbarton on the first day, M5 & M6 motorway then I will get off and go via Dumfries, Kilmarnock before hitting the M77. (I HATE motorways so I thought this would break up the journey?)

Then Dumbarton up past Loch Lomond, A83 to Inveraray, A85 to have a look at Oban then North up to Fort William. I might keep going (especially if the weather is bad) up to Inverness (meant to be nice?)

Then up to Applecross, or across if I end up in Inverness. The Applecross loop is 34miles (ish), how long realistically does it take to ride the loop?

This is where my plans get (even more) vague.  :o

I want to go to harris & Lewis so was thinking of camping on Skye after Applcross. Then catching the ferry (early in the morn) over to Tarbet which I believe to be £13. Then heading back from Stornaway to Ullapool the day after (but in the afternoon) which I believe to be £21.

Every one says that Harris & Lewis are beautiful. My mate says I shouldn’t bother going over unless spending a good few days there, but I don’t have the time…plus its more of an adventure if a boat is involved.  Smile

Going to spend a rest day in Ullapool, is there anything really there? (I will know some people there mind ya)

Next day it's off for a circular ride along Durness & the north coast.

Then it’s the home leg. Thinking of going from Ullapool, past Inverness to Elgin. Then south to Perth through the Cairngorms Nation Park (the road that goes via Tomintol & Braemar). I will stay somewhere between Perth and Stirling.

Then motorway back down to Worcestershire.

I would love to spend 2 or 3 weeks and fully explore but I don’t have the time so I'm looking at making the most of my trip and seeing some great views, towns, beaches, roads (some gravel tracks would be nice as im taking my Tenere).

Would also like to go to a Whiskey Distillery, any recommendations? Went to the scotch experience in Edinburgh, but that was a tasting and I will be on my bike.  :'(

Any advice would be great. Cheap places to stay? Towns to vist? Roads to ride? Realsitc mileage per day……anything!!

Thanks

  Standard exhaust can
Posted by: Jamieg285 - 17-07-12, 01:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (9)

I've just notice the exhaust can is blowing near the front, at the bottom. I've only had the bike a month, so can't be sure if it's always done it, or if it's only just started.

On close inspection, there are 2 small (1mm) holes, one on the front end, and one underneath. Their location suggest that they might be intentional holes, (possibly for drainage?) but I'm not sure as I have no experience in this area.

Should the holes be there?  If not, what material is the original end can? Can it be repaired, or does it need replacing?

  Security
Posted by: coansha - 17-07-12, 12:52 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (18)

Only just got a Gen 1 Fazer 1000 and looking into security for it. Was planning a chain and lock to a clamp on the garage floor and probably a disc lock for ease when riding.
Was expecting to find plenty info out there on best type of locks and how they rate but really struggling....
I have the ride magazine test from August 2008 edition but quick frankly since they wouldn't actually recommend any of them, where do I go from here?

Any suggestions welcome either to a quality lock/chain set that's worth the cash or better still any review data which discusses the pros/cons of each set up.

BTW, scoring best on the ride test data was the OXFORD XL HARDCORE but even then it scored 9/30 and succumbed in 3 mins 20 secs without power tools...

Thanks in advance...

Just passed my Mod 1 & 2 tests last week, after being recommended by the trainer i've bought a 2000 'W' plate Fazer FZS600!!
WOW that things fast - only had a GS500 to train on and a Yamaha YBR125 for 2 months to gain confidence!!

Added a 12v socket to it and planning on engine crash protection bars & bungs, heated grips, tank bag and a few other bits & bobs.

Loving the bike and glad i found a owners club forum!! Smile

Just need to find rides to tag along on now in the Barry, South Wales area????

Hi, spotted this Renntec rack on ebay which says for 98 to 01 models.  Just wondering would it not fit a 2002 model also?

  possable fuel tank swap
Posted by: ghostbiker - 17-07-12, 06:44 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (13)

I have an 04 gen 1. silver storm? black engine and black tail rest silver.
due to a recent off  :'( i am trying to decide if i want to touch up the slight cosmetic damage or repair it with a good respray to OE or infact just go for a full respray and colour change.

if i go option 1 or 2 then i will keep my tank as its unmarked and great condition (apart from the tank pad that is starting to show age) but if i go option 3 and a full respray to a new colour then i dont realy want to use me great condition tank.
at that point i might be looking to do a trade with a lightly marked tank (not dented) or just buy a cheap one and throw mine on ebay. they seem to be asking big money for damaged ones on ebay right now though.

I still have to find out the costs of a fair respray, as no one ever seems to want to give me a ball park figure without knowing the exact paint scheme. which i dont know yet. i know it will vary the price but i just dont know what way to go yet, and doubt i will anytime soon as i keep changing my mind everytime a see another bike lol
