  Tatty thou
Posted by: squitbit - 10-08-12, 12:00 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

Hey fellas and ladies, I've had my Gen 1 thou since Nov 04, new then. Since then it's taken me on a coupla continental trips and never missed a beat. Due to circumstances I've had to rely on it for daily transport so it now has 61 plus thou on the clock, battered tank, dirty, cracked nose fairing, Devilsyam has seen it and and almost cried. But the bits that matter are fine, still pulls like a train, ivanised by Mike in 05, R6 shock.  I'm seriously thinking of selling. I'm 54 tomorrow and don't think I can handle another winter of commuting 300 plus miles a week. It's got a good set of BT023's, recent new front pads ( Carbone Lorraine A3+) serviced regularly by me, ( I do know what I'm doing!) Any idea what I can ask for it? I swear the bike is sound, despite the looks. I'll get some pics on here when I can. Just thought I'd offer you guys an option for a restoration project or just as a winter hack. I won't sell to just anyone, I want the bike to be looked after like I used to be able to afford to. Any comments welcome.

  Kinlochleven bimble Saturday.
Posted by: Aegis Bearing Mel - 09-08-12, 03:01 PM - Forum: Events, Meets, Ride outs etc - Replies (16)

Baloo and mesen have made the bold decision to actually try and ride our bikes for once.
Outlandish I know, but hey, that's the kinda guys we are.
Wink

So, the rough plan is head up to Kinlochleven on Saturday via Loch Lomond, mibbes a stop off at The Welly then go do some laps in the glorious sunshine.
Thinking on an 11 kick off.

Anyone else in?

  Replacing water pump inlet pipe
Posted by: Aegis Bearing Mel - 09-08-12, 02:57 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

After eventually getting enough hours of not rain to go out and inspect 'Bee, I've traced the coolant leak to the water pump inlet pipe.
I've a replacement set of assorted water and oil pumps coming from the Bay of Flea, but after that I'm not sure what to do.

Anyone done this?

Looking at the service manual it appears to be a case of drain the coolant, remove the radiator hoses from the associated pipes, unbolt them and just pull it out.
Fnar.

HOWEVER, experience says that Yam have a habit of making things slightly more complicated than that.
Not me, I'm a veritable mechanical genius...
:rollin

I'm fairly happy playing with things (did the R1 fork mod/rebuild mesen, service her happily, swapped the butterflies out etc) but is this gonna turn around and bite me in the arse is my question.

She's my daily commuter, so could really do without foccin' her up.

  MOT question
Posted by: Lawrence - 09-08-12, 09:22 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (8)

Quick MOT question for you guys... is it a fail if the bars/controls touch the faring?  On full lock left the throttle cables just about touch the faring because a little bit of the stopper thing is broken off.

  Considering changing mk1 600 for a 1000?
Posted by: Wade90 - 09-08-12, 08:12 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (17)

Should I change to a 1000?
Whats sort of MPG are you guys getting, I currently get between 52-58 out of my 600 doing a 160 miles a week commute filling up once.
Be interested in any comments form owners who went from a 600 to a 1000 about handling, comfort, performance etc..
Sell it to me! Big Grin

  Crash bungs?
Posted by: oll_loves_pie - 08-08-12, 07:55 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

Hey guys, I bought my '03 Fazer and it came with what look to be mountings for some sort of crash bungs. (See round chunk of metal at the bottom right, near the downpipes) I believe that the previous owner took this down the road and then took the bungs off because they looked scruffy. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get some more? Just the bungs, not a whole set.
