  focin dealers

Bought my k7 gixxer early in the summer.
Kept getting Fi light on dash, take it back, they say it's.the arrow pipes I have fitted. Check this out no mention of errors fitting cans. They sold me the cans !
I tell them that the light kept coming on before I fitted the cans and decat pipe. I explain the exhaust valve in headers squeaks and should be checked. They say no won't be that.
I check myself and it seemed stiff and cables needed a lube. All is well for a while then error light on again.
Book dealer and he said it's the valve, well l knew that. He sorts any fault codes and adjusts the valve. Light goes off for a while then back again.
On my investigation the bastard thing stuck again. And because the mechanic put loads of slack in cables they weren't working the valve.
I get it working again and get rid of fault light.
I then do research on the gixxer forum. The valve in the headers is to cut down noise and nothing else. So off with the cables and servo  :evil
And careful snipping of a wire to ECU and no error code or annoying light. The bike runs better too as the valve stays open now permanent and isn't playing silly buggers anymore.
The dealer could of of let me know he could'nt fix it instead of leaving it so the cables weren't working the valve, leaving me thinking it was :rolleyes

  BLOKES COOKING....
Posted by: MadDogMcQ - 04-09-12, 04:15 PM - Forum: General - Replies (34)

After 30 odd years of waiting for the wife to learn to cook something better than frozen turkey-twizzlers  :lol  I finally gave up and decided to learn myself!  I've started by making soups. They only take 20 minutes and are a peice of pi$$ to make. Daft as it sounds, I find it quite relaxing too. And it's a great way to get those 5-a-day.

Last night enroute to St Annes Bike Meet, Stuart noticed a change in the handling of his BMW. The wheel fell off!!! Luckily, he'd just come off the motorway, or it wouldn't have been funny.

OMG, how ugly is that thing??? It's a BMW Deauville  :lol

Anybody have a Wingrack with a PLASTIC monokey plate?
Posted by: Fuzzy - 04-09-12, 03:26 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

I recently took delivery of a Givi Wingrack 2 which came with an aluminium "m3" monokey plate. The plate's a bit worse for wear and as I have another "m3" plate (currently fitted to a monorack) I thought I'd use that - however that one is made of plastic/nylon or similar. They are totally identical apart from the material they are made from.

I emailed Givi about it and have not had a response. Does anybody know why there is an aluminium and a plastic model? I wonder if it's safe to use the plastic one with the Wingrack - anybody got a plastic one fitted?

  Battery Charger advice
Posted by: HarryHornby - 04-09-12, 12:52 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (10)

I left the key in the ignition yesterday and when in doors thought, sod it, it won't get nicked, I'll risk it, what I didn't realise was I'd left the ignition on!  Came to use the bike for work this morning and flat as a pancake (quite obviously).

I don't need a flashy optimiser I ride the bike every day and this keeps the battery charged, I just need a battery charger to charge it back up, can I use a car charger (I think my Dad's got one in his garage) or does it have to be a special bike one?

Cheers

  Which Pads?
Posted by: davedee69 - 04-09-12, 12:31 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

So no doubt this has been discussed before, I'm in need of some new front pads, so which do i go for, I don't do track days and only cover about 3000 mile per year for enjoyment, and try to avoid wet weather riding where possible.
So what pads do I get, GG, HH , sintered?? goldfren, EBC, Kyoto, Galfer, Ferodo ? to many to choose from, surely they all have to meet a standard?
All opinions welcomed. :lol
Cheers

Valve clearance check @ 25000 miles
Posted by: Dave48 - 04-09-12, 08:03 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

My Gen 1 is approaching 25000 miles & wondered what other "foccers" experience of this task has been. Out of curiosity I asked my local Yamaha main dealer the likely cost & was told apprx £300! :eek  How easy/difficult is it to access valves-what has to be removed-indeed how important is it to do the check @ this mileage or can it be safely left to a higher mileage? According to Haynes the Americans dont do this check til 26000 miles. I am pretty confident about doing the feeler gauge bit but the shim calculation & selection process is new to me. Any thoughts gratefully considered
