Anyone in the Lymington Hampshire area?
Posted by: Fatherbiker - 24-09-12, 08:07 PM - Forum: Events, Meets, Ride outs etc - Replies (3)

Anyone around Lymington Hants for a monthly meet? I live in Lymington and am still quite new to the club and as yet still not ridden the Fazer due to having a busted leg at first but also the bike i bought was absolutely desperate for chain and sprockets which i am almost finished with now. I had 2 nuts on the rear sprocket which were seized so i am replacing all of them.
There are a few good pubs here in Lymington serving good food and good beer (even though we can't drink much and ride) but there is one on the A337 near Pennington Cross with sofa's and would i am sure welcome the additional customers. In the warmer weather there is also a nice outside area. If there are a few people up for a meet at some point in the near future then i would be pleased to meet up. Nothing formal, just a drink and a natter.Rich.

Jittery at low revs - FIXED
Posted by: darrsi - 24-09-12, 01:48 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (17)

Thought i'd let you know that my 'jittery' problem at low revs has been sorted this morning.

I'd changed spark plug caps, gapped the plugs and put a K&N filter on the bike, which in my personal opinion improved it a lot at first then it went back to  being jerky again in any gear, just as i put a little throttle on.

So i had the bike into PDQ this morning and it went straight onto the rolling road for a Dyno test.

I actually watched the test and was shown that there wasn't too much of a difference on the graph comparison from the last time i had it done when i had a carb overhaul?

The thing is that immediately after 3000rpm it takes off without even a hint of a splutter so it was traffic that was an issue for me, and unfortunately most of my ride to and from work is in traffic so it was important to me that it was working properly.

After being advised that another carb strip down would 'probably' be a waste of time, i opted just for the carb balance for now to see if that would help?

And that was it, he found that the carbs were well out of balance! I'm not sure why they were so far out, because they haven't been touched at all, but as soon as i pulled away from the yard i could feel and hear the difference straight away. Happy days!  Smile

One thing that i will mention though which took me a bit by surprise, is that he told me that K&N filters hardly make any difference to the Fazer 600's at all compared to a stock paper filter, whereas a bike like a Suzuki Bandit for instance would have a very noticeable difference! Even more so when people clean them and oil them wrongly and then they don't work as they should.

Seeing as my bike was showing 85bhp on the Dyno last time it was there and now it was showing about 84.5bhp, then maybe it's true, even though it feels like it can breathe a lot better to me?

Anyway, i've got 50,000 miles of air filter left to worry about that, so for now i'll just enjoy it as it is! Big Grin

  Wanted - Big Tourer
Posted by: Topcat2006 - 24-09-12, 12:58 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (13)

Hi All,

I'm fed up with getting a numb arse on my 51 plate fazer 1000.

Does anyone have something like a Pan European / FJR1300 / BMW RT/K/GSA to swap for it?

The fazer has had a full service, new chain, sprockets and Scotoiler, nearly new tyres, new EXUP valve cables and freed off and refurbished valve.  The fork seals have been replaced and new oil and the forks set up.  The headlights have been modified to come on both together  (common mod).  Its MOT'd until May next year.

The mainstand and the sidestand have been de-rusted, holes welded up and repainted.

I can see no signs of it being dropped.

Its a 51 plate.  It has a full service history (although not all main dealer) and has around 41,000 miles on the clock.  (I use it so it goes up a bit).

  another suspension/preload question
Posted by: ddtwelve - 24-09-12, 11:51 AM - Forum: FZ6 / FZ6 Fazer - No Replies

I went this weekend to have a look at the BMW f800st and when I sat on it the suspension was lovly and pliable not like my fz6 I couldn't mess with the preload on the BMW as was a customer's bike he just let me have a sit on it, the question is should the fz be more bouncy as when I sit on it on preload 3 setting I get the 25-35 mm preload drop or does my suspension need stripping and greasing, what preload do you use as im 90 kg with no bike gear :-S

Wanted: EURO headlights for a mkII FZS600
Posted by: Rookie75 - 24-09-12, 11:34 AM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (4)

Just moved to france and have a mint 2003 FZS600 with 13k miles (yes, it's shameful, but I used to work too hard!)

Wondering whether anyone who a bought grey import from Taz or elsewhere changed the headlamp unit and has a euro version gathering dust in the garage?  I'm thinking long shot, but worth asking before stumping up for new ones, to avoid putting silly stickers on mine.

If anyone has one, please email me, thanks.  Pete.

(P.S would be happy to do a straight swap if anyone has a mint unit)

  Blast from the past

Was a regular foccer 10-11 years ago, but my account dropped off when things got snazzy on the website!  So after years of lurkdom I've re-registered.
Got a mint blue 2003 FZS600 with lovely carbs but proper headlights  Smile
Bike was mothballed for 4 years due to being busy at work and having nowhere sensible to keep the bike.  Just moved to France, bike now happily garaged but yet to be froggified.  Currently uninsured so limited to riding 20m up and down the drive to keep her turning over!  Managing to resist the temptation so far.
Hoping to find someone with some Euro headlights to sell so I don't have to have silly stickers on mine or stump up what Yamaha will surely want for new ones.
Good to see the site is still going strong!
