hey guys, bit of a crap end to the day...
Normal commute home, not going nuts staying below 8k all the way back, noticed as I got to within 5 miles of home that it sounded like the fan had kicked in, but couldn't be sure as my earplugs are pretty good, I should have stopped but couldn't be sure it was the bike. First mistake!
I continued home, checking at each set of lights but couldn't pin the noise down to the fan and didn't notice the coolant that had sprayed all down the side of the bike. Second mistake!
got to within 400 yards of home and the temperature warning light came on...oh F@"k... I stopped immediately, killed the engine and got off, realised it was the fan and spotted the coolant all over the engine. I waited for it to cool down and then road the last 400 yards home, coasting with the engine off for the last 100.
Looking at it, its mostly down the right hand side of the engine, there isn't any water left in it but the oil is at normal level and there isn't any water in the oil (as far as I can tell by checking under the oil cap for residue).
Whats the most common solution? Thermostat, pipe popped off / split? I know its a shot in the dark without you guys seeing it. How should I go about checking for the most common things? I've never worked on a bike, lots of cars but not a bike. I'm guessing that once the tank is off its all easy to see?
Is it likely that I'll have done any damage to the engine by running it until the temperature warning light came on?
As always, I'll appreciate any comments, thanks

hi all from he west midlands.
Picked up a 2002 fzs 600 ready for the winter a couple of weeks ago and must say very impressed with the handling. hoping its going t serve me well. do around 18k -20k miles a year so it will certainly be put through its paces. 29 years old, previously owned a trusty thundercat amongst other bikes from 50cc cagivas, singles. Twins of all makes right up to pan euros. looking forward to firing questions at folk on the forum as and went things crop up.
Safe riding.

I've been searching for a while now, but not having much luck .So can anyone recommend a the above type cover with the following -
- cover's all of the bike all the way down to the bottom of the front wheel.
- has a elasticated front and rear sections that will hug the front wheel and atleast try to do the same with the rear.
- has eyelets in plastic rather than metal in the front with hole at least 20mm
- had a inner liner to protect from scratches and has a rear section that is heat resistant
- has straps/clip at either end of the cover NOT in the middle.
- plain black or some other dark colour with either minimal or no brand or logo.
- with more than 1yr warranty.

There seems to be a 'clunk' noise when braking, it sounds almost like the tank is loose and being jolted, but i've checked and it's mounted firmly. What would the next thing to check be? It brakes fine and the suspension travels smoothly.

a little while back I asked for sponsors as I was running the Liverpool marathon. I done it on Sunday in 6 hrs 19 mins carrying a 55lb bergen, it was hard as Foc. Would I recommend doing one............yes and no
yes....great cameraderie especially when it gets tough, very humbling seeing all the different charities it really gets you thinking, the outcome for your charity
No..........PAIN (ha ha) the training needed is awesome and time consuming, you need to commit
a few on the site backed me so a big thanks, if you would like to give a bit then you can do it here and read all about it
cheers

Cheapest is over a £100 :eek and the o2 site has warnings about how high the cheap seats are and not to book them if you are afraid of heights :eek
Always wanted to see them so thought I'd have a look on the o2 site this morning for tickets but the site must be rammed as it's full of server errors so spending 3 or 4 hundred on a couple of tickets isn't a problem for loads of people!!

| Gen 2...which R1 shock? |

I have been trawling the web and this forum regarding the rear shock on my newly acquired Gen 2. I am 12st, and having been out on two 170 mile Sunday runs, I came to the conclusion that as the bike was way too skittery I needed to do something about the suspension. The previous owner was rather more portly than myself, so today I dragged a friend around and we set about doing the sag etc.
The front is set up and just needs fine tuning, I will probably run it a tad softer than the settings that we arrived at.
The rear is on the softest preload, and with my weight it moves, but not as much as I would like, nor as smoothly.
It seems that the consensus is that the Gen 2 is way oversprung, and that an R1 shock is the way to go, the snag is, which year to go for? I have looked at a few on Ebay, but it seems that designs varied over the years.
My last question is, do they alter the ride height? I am happy with the Gen 2 seat height, so would rather retain that if possible.
Cheers
Rob
