  bad test ride
Posted by: ddtwelve - 04-11-12, 08:49 PM - Forum: General - Replies (20)

wel yesterday i went with the missus for a test on the BMW f800st with the thinking Bmw touring bike for next year, bike 5000 miles on the clock ,heated grips, bmw sat nav,and intercom, two seat options mmmm went for the high comfy seat ,
started up nice throaty sound from the exhaust sat on nice a comfy and light right off for ride very long clutch travel and gear change very clunky worse than the yam off we went slipping and sliding on the seat trying to stop my nuts from cracking every time i slowed down, changed gear, or braked not happy stright back to bmw with only 10 miles done ,
change of seat and wifey does not want to go as she was scared with bracing herself and holding on for dear life due to seat and the fact the footrests were too close for passenger and rider suspension was good thou
the ride was better but had a scary moment when back wheel slipped but the engine vibes from the twin was awfull seemed like it was miss firing type of thing and when the engine was turned off it stopped with a clunk
might try a bmw1200rt next year to see if that was better but got on the fz600 comfy and non viby just need suspension sorting so dosent dive so much and jump over bumps while trying to take a piece of ya spine

  Scary Halloween moment
Posted by: Newgolddream - 04-11-12, 08:06 PM - Forum: General - Replies (12)

Halloween did start in a particularly scary way - crashed on the way to work!

Negotiating a roundabout on a dual carriageway in right hand lane to go straight on a car towing a horse box in the left hand lane decided to turn right - right across my exit! With the accompanying bang, crunch, grate of metal and plastic as I slid/rolled across the road narrowly avoiding going under the horse box (fortunately no horse inside). I only suffered minor bumps, bruises and scratches.

Anyway, this being my first dealings with insurance for many a year, it seems proceedures have changed somewhat. I took insurance this year through Bennetts and it seems they are just a shop front as I am now having to deal with 3 other companies; Minster Law, BLD & Equity Red Star (underwriters).

As a warning, if you report a claim to Bennets also report it to the underwriters yourself as Bennetts don't!
BLD picked-up my bike the next day and have provided me with a hire bike until it's all sorted and seem to be just dealing with the bike side of the claim.

Minster Law were soon on the phone to try and sort out any personal injury claim making sure I even kept receipts for a box of paracetamol.

It all seems so disjointed and complicated. Why do these things in life just get harder. I was always under the impression that new systems were put in place to make things simpler - how wrong I am.

Anyway, has anyone else had dealings with the above companies and how did you get on?

I am now without my lovely Fazer and have been given a Bandit 650 hire bike (ugh! I'm struggling to find confidence in the front end) I just want my Fazer back (if it's not written-off) a.s.a.p so I can just get on with life in quiet normality. :'(

Any advice gratefully received.

  Fazer's Submarine Capabilities!

Check!
Right up to the pegs, which was my first time through a flood on a bike.
Just wish the cop who drove past me 300 meters up the road was polite enough to warn me about the flooded road around the corner.

Heated throttle grip is loose and no longer turns throttle
Posted by: misterjames - 04-11-12, 06:06 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Hey Gang,

Another newbie question.

Lost my throttle connection all of a sudden while riding last night and could only engage the throttle by squeezing the grips really hard.  I have oxford heated grips installed on the bike (came with it) & when I inspected the grip it turns freely independent of the underlying cylinder/tube that actually turns the cable housing.  Is the grip meant to be glued to the cylinder or is there some other way that it is supposed to rotate it?  I'm a brand new owner/rider so learning and neither the service or haynes manual discuss anything aside from cable adjustment.thx for any insight!

Headlight Fuse is Melting, not breaking but MELTING!
Posted by: willmckeand - 04-11-12, 02:46 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (34)

Hey everybody, the headlights fuse on my FZS600 Fazer is getting extremely hot after about 30 seconds of having the lights on. So hot that it melted the plastic off of the fuse which then ran down into the fuse box.

I've re-wired the fuse to another fuse holder but I'm still having the same problem.  The ammeter showed around 10A at the fuse which explains why the 20A fuse is not breaking, just getting very hot.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing this? I have checked the majority of the wiring and the bulbs seem okay. I thought initially that water had caused it as the bike was out in the rain all day on the day the problem started, however it's been 4 days in the dry now and still no improvement.

Running out of ideas, please help!

Will
