Insurance - Kingy - 07-11-12

So, an uninsured retard drives into the back of my company van and writing it off, all £6k of it, my daughter gets hit with a £288 bill because i'm a named driver on her car insurance policy. He gets £400 fine and three points for failing to nominate a driver although he was driving the van  that ran into me, I guess he knew it would be a lesser fine etc. These bastards know how to work the system and i'm penalised for beeing driven into. did get 2.4K compo for whiplash though from the motor insurance bureau so not all bad.

At least your ok.
I believe that insurance companies are now being investigated by the watchdog, so things like this, people playing the system might be reduced, hopefully.

Re: Insurance - BBROWN1664 - 07-11-12

I thought it was 6 points for failure to furnish.

Insurance is a scam. My wife's car was hit whilst parked and the feccer drove off. She lost no claims and my policy went up at renewal too as a result as she is a named driver.

Re: Insurance - BennyBoy - 07-11-12

Tell me about it..

A lad i work with got his car rear ended and wrote off by a drunk driver who had no license (but did have insurance).

...the insurance didn't pay up!  The reason, i hear you type?

wait for it....

....

...
.

..... he was 15 days into the 14 day notification period after a move of address.

He called insurance to update his records that very morning.  They tried to charge his card at the new address.  It bounced because the post code and address didnt match.

He was driving to the bank to update his address at the time of the crash because they wouldnt do an address change over the phone.

It went to court and the insurance company lost in the end, but he was without a car for months and it took nearly 2 years to settle.

Re: Insurance - slappy - 08-11-12

my wife bumped another car in a minor prang ,all sorted out by insurance no problem. But when i got my renewal for my bike insurance from carole nash they had put it up by £25 because i was a named driver on my wifes car policy.
insurance companies have got us by the balls and there is very little we can do about it.

Re: Insurance - BBROWN1664 - 08-11-12

Slappy, that's just wrong. You report accidents you have been in or your named drivers have been in but not the other way round. I would fight that one.

Re: Insurance - slappy - 09-11-12

All insurance companies now do random checks on various databases. When I argued about it they said they said they could cancel my insurance which would effectively mean i had insurance refused.Once that happens it would make affordable insurance very difficult to find. They make the rules and if you don`t like them its tough is the message from insurance companies.
If insurance was not a legal requirement and you just bought it because you wanted it how much cheaper and easier to get would it be?

Re: Insurance - solorider - 12-11-12

10 years a go i got rear ended while riding my FJ1200,the bike was classed as a write off,i kept the bike, anyway my bike insurance did not go up at all but my car insurance did, admiral actualy refused to give me my max NCB despite my accident was not my fault,i had an argument with the woman on the phone saying to her "so your saying that in the future i should ride through a red light to avoid getting hit in the rear" she said no and i told them that was what they were implying

Re: Insurance - alan sherman - 12-11-12

Slappy: "they could cancel my insurance which would effectively mean i had insurance refused."  That is wrong.  It would be you refusing to pay the premium, so the policy being cancelled.  Not refused!  Mind you - can you get cheaper insurance elsewhere?

Carole Nash have been a good insurer for me over the years but I've not had any fault claims.

You'd still have to have it.  You can guarantee that the person who drives into you would be in some uninsured old banger and then you'd be screwed Wink

Re: Insurance - BBROWN1664 - 12-11-12

Lawrence, I think your missing the point there. You may choose to have it to avoid being out of pocket if some cnut did crash into you but the liability would be with them anyway. If Insurance wasn't a legal requirement we may see a reduction in costs but unlikely.

That's true, but you'd still be the one with a written off bike and no way of getting it fixed apart from using your own insurance or paying out of your own pocket until you manage to sue the other person Wink

I agree with your last point through, very unlikely costs would actually go down.  I'd image they'd go up to cover less policies being taken out.
