  Top box 'n' racks
Posted by: ChristoT - 25-11-12, 10:58 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (14)

Hi all!

I plan on fitting a topbox to my Fazer (carting stuff home, and keeping the laptop safe from english weather!), but I cannot find any cheap racks for the bike. The cheapest ones are Rentec, but they don't take boxes. I'm thinking of building my own (well, ask the techies at Uni to help me with it) based off the Givi rack.

Also, how does the Fazer like topbox? I mean, obviously handling goes to pot, but how bad is it? I ask because the last big lot of luggage I had on my Honda Varadero made it feel like a 2-wheeled tractor!

Thanks!

November 2012 - 40,000 UP! And some experiences from the last 7 days...
Posted by: Ben Diesel - 25-11-12, 09:57 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Well, the thou clicked over 40k this week. It's due a new chain and sprockets, they're in the garage ready to fit. But an eventful last 7 days so I thought I would share.

Monday - the rear Avon Storm 2 Ultra punctured on my way home from work, 3 miles from home. I managed to wobble the old girl back to base, booked a tyre change (on my drive at 08.30 - thank you as ever to Nick Challinor at NC Motorcycle Tyres). The Avon was down to the bars after 15,868 miles (yes that's right - nearly 16k from a rear tyre on a FZ1). I swapped to the VFR for my daily commute.

I commute into Northampton via the A14 and A43. The last 3 miles or so is solid queuing traffic and it's the reason why I use the bike. I reckon it saves me half an hour a day. But why, when I'm filtering past the outside of the queue at about 20mph, do some drivers coming in the OPPOSITE direction, believe it's absolutely necessary to track towards the centre line, as if they're trying to give me a nudge? Especially the truck driver on Thursday morning, who was so foccin' angry he was flashing his headlights and waving at me so violently, there is no way he could have been in control of his vehicle?

And that evening. First, to the driver of the Type R who tried to turn me into a mobile Armco barrier on Tavalera Way - foc off. Second, to the driver of the 911 who followed me down the slip road onto the A14 - could I please have back the rubber you nicked off my new rear tyre? You'll find it smeared across your front bumper and  headlights.

Still alive.

Just.

  Rear shock
Posted by: wezdavo - 25-11-12, 05:07 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (19)

Is there another shock that can be fitted to my 600 fazer...
I mean from another bike, rather then spending big money on an aftermarket one??
Something with more adjustment..
Also, what grade oil are you lot using in the forks 10w or 15w?
Also are those progressive fork springs any good or do they mess up the dampening and rebound.. Just cant get my head around them changing rate upon compression with rebound and dampening staying the same.. How does that work in real tearms, any one running them??

putting a written off bike back on the road
Posted by: Muddi Camel - 25-11-12, 12:54 PM - Forum: General - Replies (11)

Just wondering about the ramifications of putting a bike back on the road that's had a payout.

I've just bought it & it's "cosmetically challenged", but sound, intact, low mileage with a good history.

the previous owner had a payout when a moped went into the LHR corner and there's quite a bit of broken or scuffed plastic but it's otherwise good.  His insurance company said they were going to write it off over the phone, but he never heard any more about that.  He never had to hand over the V5 and has only just retaxed it online.
DVLA website doesn't show any markers against it. I've not done an HPI check and wondering if it's worth it.

If it has been "written off" - what's the problem about putting it back on the road?    I could break it for spares, but that would be a shame.

Thanks in advance

  stiff/sticky rear brake
Posted by: scottomus0 - 24-11-12, 09:15 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

evening guys,

just a quick question.

not used my bike for over a week due to being away, left it out without its cover on (not end of world!)

got back on it other day and it soon came apparent that my back brake wasnt really working, felt really stiff putting pressure on it.

it was working at a slow pace, but felt as though i had to force it back up!

whats causing this? bit of rust due to weather?

many thanks
