does anyone know what laws and regs apply to a 1959 motorcycle - particularly in relation to the exhaust requirements ?
I can find the info on modern bikes but was wondering what applied to the older MOT exempt bikes - I am currently riding one with no silencer and would like to know my facts if stopped by a copper younger than the bike (which is most of them!)
Hi,
Been looking at posts on the old Yaku forums on Handgaurds/Brushgaurds and reckon that V-Strom gaurds will be the simplest to fit and easiest to source from retailers.
So, has anyone fitted these to a Mk2 FZS and if yes then do they foul the fairing on full lock?
Thanks
Hi,
Been advised to stick with a standard bulb, however, has anyone used a Philips X-treme Vision(+100%) for any period of time without suffering any discolouring or melting of the headlight lense unit (within the fairing housing) and without suffering any melting of electrical wiring/connectors or any other adverse affects?
Thanks
Is there anyone with an Ivanised Gen 1 in the Lancashire area? I'm doing a little comparison against my Gen II 2010 to see what bike would suit me better.
I'm Dan, 26 from Newbury, Berkshire. After being intrigued by riding a bike for many years (but not feeling entirely sensible enough, or like it was financially viable) my friend finally got me to book in my CBT, and from there I went on to get my licence at the end of November. My friend rides an SV650, but I was never sure I wanted to start off with such an aggressive ride style. After looking around I decided the Fazer was for me, and upon going to visit someone selling one I fell in love with it and shook hands right there and then.
So I'm now the very proud owner of a 2009 FZ6 S2 and I couldn't be more happier, the bike feels like it was made for me! I wanted to get my bike in time for a few outings before locking it up tight over Christmas before I forgot how to ride. Had a few rides in the rain and couldn't care less about getting wet, I am happy as long as I'm riding! Only thing that concerns me is the feel of the gearbox when I move from 1st to 2nd... the GS 500 I learnt on felt pretty smooth, but doing this on the Fazer seems very clunky, like I'm breaking something... is that standard? At first I thought it was because I wasn't used to such a stiff clutch lever and wasn't pulling it in properly, but I've since ruled that out. Is it better to do 2 small shifts (to neutral, then second) when possible or just go for it? Moving up the gears from there seems smooth in comparison.
Anyway, haven't ventured any further than getting some crash bungs on it (couldn't get them on fast enough!), but hope to start learning about the bike and maybe change a few bits and pieces in the future once I'm fully comfortable with it.
Thought I'd attach a picture so I don't get the standard "worthless" message!
What an interesting, rewarding, challenging and disappointing year I've had. Took a risk last autumn and gave a few months notice to a company I'd only just joined in preference to an embryonic start-up which I joined in January 2012 as its first employee to architect and implement their software ideas from scratch. Spent most of the time working from home (gained many lbs ) and got their ideas through a proof-of-concept to a successful prototype. Spent most of my free time on the adventure too. I like a challenge! Prototype successfully demoed in October, loads of interest, definitely more funding coming to the company but not until March/April 2013, so I got the boot since I'd delivered what they needed and they'd no money left Now they have to somehow fund turning it into commercial software to prevent losing their homes. (Their business plan wasn't terribly realistic.)
In the three months leading up to being made redundant, the following happened: computer motherboard died and i7 920 (first gen) chip was effectively obsolete -- could not find a compatible motherboard, so extra expense there for new motherboard and chip; phone died so new phone/answer machine; samsung LCD telly died (refused to pick up signal -- borrowed portable worked) so new telly; bathroom and kitchen plumbing leak repairs; unrepairable rear tyre puncture on almost new tyre; kitchen work destroyed some hand-me-down crappy falling-to-bits kitchen cabinets so money spent on trade-discounted Magnet replacements until kitchen is properly redone in two years time.
Really slow jobs market so spent 6 weeks of gardening leave at home, gained even more lbs, but managed to catch up on bike DVDs and mags and sorta get some relaxation now and again. Got addicted to the gentle humour of Man About the House! Had a bizarre interview with a company and managed to severely piss off the head of business (unknowingly in the company car park) by mentioning the company name in public to her (don't ask). Though head of business came crawling back to me a few days later to apologise and chat, offering me a job which I declined.
Landed a new job locally with a small but well-established company doing Java software for telecoms industry.
I'll wait a while now before I decide whether to keep/get rid of FZ1 and (also?) get a Speed Triple. Multiple bikes without a garage isn't ideal though.
After using my fazer a bit more since I bought it on Saturday, I have noticed that the steering lock is very hard to put on. Its not too bad from on to off etc but the lock is difficult in both ways. I have tried oiling the key and then working it through the lock but its not much better. Any ideas?
Hi, I'm considering swapping my D9 for either a VFR 800 Fi or a Gen1 Fazer 1000. I'm swayed towards the Fazer because of the more upright position plus I had one few years back and got on well with it.
I've seen one in J&S Doncaster, it's an 03 and seems to have been well looked after but it's done nearly 50k miles. It's up for £2500 which may be a lot for the mileage. I'd appreciate any comments on value or any advice on buying a Fazer with that mileage. I'm not against high mileage as my D9 has 75k miles on the clock and I won't be doing a lot of miles myself.
It would be nice to get a bit of history on it if by any chance it may have belonged to a member on here.
Anyway thanks for reading this and please respond if you have any advice to give.
Cheers
