  My simple Front Sprocket Fix
Posted by: packie - 25-02-13, 05:10 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (41)

Fitted a new set of chain and sprockets last week and fitted the new nut with thread lock. When torqing the nut up, I felt that after torqing carefully up to about 60nm of pressure that the nut was in danger of going to strip from the shaft. So I left it at that and didn't dare to push it any further. But that left me still a bit paranoid about even the new nut working itself free.

I got a DID chain and JTS (I think) sprockets from M&P. The front had holes drilled into it so I did a McGyver and looped some wire through the holes and criss-crossed it over the nut. It would take excessive force outwards from the shaft to break this wire and force the nut off. I don't think there is that force there from my own experience. My front sprocket stayed on without a nut at all for over 1,200 (known) miles from just mere rust, balance, and with the grace of God!!

So I don't think the sprocket pushed the nut off. I think these nuts just sometimes work open for whatever reason and just vibrate off the shaft rather than any excessive force pushing them off. So the wire should be secure enough and might help to give those with a similar front sprocket a bit of added peace of mind without having to do a big DIY engineering job..

Heres a piccie of my McGyver for those who have a similar type sprocket.

Best way to wire in an illuminated clock .....with temp gauge
Posted by: simonm - 25-02-13, 03:58 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Just bought one of these to try as my gen 1 Fazer doesn't have a clock:

The int/ext voltmeter, temp gauge and backlight all come on with the 12v supply (the clock being run by a couple of cell batteries).  I was pondering wiring it to the ignition, then the lighting and then wondered what your thoughts were.

I always ride with sidelights on (as a minimum) and I don't want any more drain when I turn the ignition on than I have to (I always have the side lights and heated grips off when I start the bike).

The side lights would seem like a good point and I suspect the load will be virtually unnoticeable but I dunno since I'd like the temp gauge to always be on.

Thoughts ?

Simon

Hey I only need the one image and as long as the email works I may get some work...

Cheers and thank you all again

Posted by: Jack - 25-02-13, 10:53 AM - Forum: General - Replies (26)

Hi all, friends of mine are in London this week. (go to the shelters!) and they are asking about pubs and stuff. Can any of you recommend a pub wich they have to visit? Like when you are in London your visit isn't complete if you're not been to this pub!
Something like that.
So let's hear it!

Anyone sell a Fazer in Tonbridge Wells yesterday?
Posted by: locksmith - 25-02-13, 10:48 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

My lad had his KTM on ebay. Put it on a buy it now of all things!!

Some one with a bad grasp of written English asked a couple of stupid sounding questions and pressed buy it now.
A couple of messages later and he is in Poland but coming over on a Friday morning ferry. Son tells him Friday no good, has to be Sunday so next thing you know it's a Sunday ferry. Alarm bells that were already in my head suddenly got louder, much louder and of course the bike isn't on ebay anymore.

Eventually they turn up. One guy speaking English. They turn out to be a nice couple of fella's, agreed the bike was good as advertised and handed over the cash Smile you could have picked me up off the floor :lol

Turns out bikes are cheaper here and his Polish speaking mate was buying a couple of bikes to take home. Hence they already had a 58 plate Fazer6 on the trailer!

The trailer was a brand new two bike and it was superb. Only cost £400 in Poland. It would be more than double that here, so how come bikes are cheaper here?

Corner with stone chippings on it. What to do?
Posted by: simonm - 25-02-13, 09:14 AM - Forum: General - Replies (19)

Riding yesterday I went around a corner wide and I'm trying to figure out what I should have done
. Advice?

Scenario: setup for the corner, Committed for gear, speed and entry point when I notice a foot wide sprinkling of grit about 3 foot long all through my chosen path. I tried to go around the outside and ran wide. Thankfully no car on the other carriage way.

  Gearbox whine
Posted by: Ruby Racing - 25-02-13, 01:54 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (3)

Just got my crashed project bike rolling again today. I didn't own it before it was crashed, so I don't know what's normal. Anyway it seems to have quite a noticeable gearbox whine. Is this normal?

When I pull the clutch in when rolling it seems to go away, so pretty sure it's the gearbox. I had a 2002 R1 and that had quite a whiny gearbox.

So does this sound normal for an FZS600?
