  Boots and gloves
Posted by: ChristoT - 29-03-13, 01:17 AM - Forum: General - Replies (11)

Just thought I'd ask - how long do bike boots and bike gloves last people? My boots are 14 months old, and on the way out. I give them another 6 months (and only because of summer. If we get one). As for gloves, I'm getting through my last pair (Spadas) in 9 months, and my current RSTs (bought in October) will be knackered by the end of summer.

How long does gear last you chaps?

Yay, I got out on the FZS600 today. Woop Woop
Posted by: simonm - 28-03-13, 06:17 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - No Replies

AT a balmy 2 degrees I went out for an hour and a half ride today, looking at the snow in the fields and at the side of the road.  Got to try out the new bluetooth headset and the head cam that I bought.

Yeah, the headcam didn't work out so well.  Spent most of it's time pointing at the ground.  Some adjustment required methinks.

Still smiling 6 hours later, it's all good.  Thank you Yamaha.

  New chain & sprockets
Posted by: andyajaxfreeman - 28-03-13, 06:13 PM - Forum: FZ6 / FZ6 Fazer - Replies (6)

Hi all! I'm new to biking, had my fazer 600 (2005) since October last year. My local bike dealer and also a friend with some knowledge about bikes told me I need a new chain soon..ish. Also advised to change the sprockets at the same time.
Now I would like to become more mechanically minded and with the help of someone who knows what they are doing I would like to replace the chain and sprockets myself. Do any of you think this is unwise? If you think it's best for me to get my bike dealer to do this for me then I would appreciate your input.
Anyone who thinks its okay to do this myself with help from someone who knows what they are doing then what chain and sprockets would you recommend/where to buy them from?
Cheers, andy

  1998 Fazer 600 Fairing lowers
Posted by: itwiznaeme - 28-03-13, 02:17 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (6)

Afternoon all, got a set of fairing lowers with the bike but have no intention of fitting them, I also have no idea if they are worth anything.
They will need repainted and have a few scratches but no major breaks, one of the bottom lugs is broken slughtly but you could still get a fixing on it.

Anyone give me pointers on value etc?

Cheers

Stevie

  Engine Rebuild
Posted by: Dead Eye - 28-03-13, 02:09 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (73)

So as most of you know, my previous Fazer sort of burnt to the ground. I am however thinking of bringing it back to life but before I start on anything I need to make sure that it is actually feasible.

Now the fire got hot enough to render the rear wheel complete mush so with that in mind, how is the swing arm and engine going to have faired? Is it possible for me to salvage the engine and rebuild it, or is it simply destroyed? I would love for it to be ok, as I can potter about in my newly finished garage (today!!) and methodically dismantle and repair the old engine in my sweet time as I have a running Fazer to ride despite its many small issues...

The work required doesn't bother me and I think I have the tools and knowledge to under-take the job so that's not an issue either.

So without further babbling, are there any technical foccers out there who can lend some advice?

  Telephone calls whilst riding
Posted by: Streetbudgie - 28-03-13, 01:59 PM - Forum: General - Replies (58)

Telephone calls whilst riding - really?

What could possibly be more distracting than having a loud ring then a voice booming into your ear as you negotiate traffice, ride a hairpin bend or simply just ride in a staright line?

I do not understand the obsession that people have these days with constantly being contactable - does no one ever 'get away from it all' for an hour or so anymore?

I have mates who answer their phones in the pub and then spend 30 minutes 'discussing' with little Brittany or Cruise Harper Bastard why they must go to bed and not disturb Mummy - what the fuck?!!! You're in the pub with your mates, your kids should not think it's ok to ring you for anything less that a missing limb or a dead sibling blocking the fridge door.

The last thing I want is some nobber ringing me as I'm filtering my way through London traffic to ask me how to use the video recorder, for fucks sake it can all wait unless it's life or death and even in death the only thing I can do is get there when I can, you're already dead, that ain't gonna change!

What the hell is voice mail or the ridiculous 'text message' for if eveyone insists on being contactable at all times?

I have to question how safe mobile phone headsets are to be used when riding a motorcycle in the same way that I question (by question I mean punish) car drivers who insist on driving with one hand clamped to their ear chatting on the phone and not payng any attention to the road.

For Sale: Used FZS 600 Downpipes
Posted by: Foxwood - 28-03-13, 01:47 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (4)

As in subject, I'm selling the original downpipes off of my 1999 model FZS 600. Last summer I changed them for stainless steel Delkevic downpipes (just for the looks) and now they are taking up valuable space in my garage.

They are original and have been used for about 30 000 kilometers. Bike was originally from Northern Italy (up till 12 000 km) and the rest of it's life it has spent in Finland (winters in heated garage). So as far as I know, it has not been driven in salty conditions.

Condition can be seen in the following pictures. If anyone is interested, I can give them a scrub and post new pics.  I will also include 1 new fastener and what I believe is a plastic spacer pipe for between the link pipe and downpipes (see pics).

I'm asking for 50€ plus postage (~ 30€ on Finnish Postal Services' website) or best offer. Payment preferably by PayPal.

Cheers,
Mikko

P.S. Probably forgot something, so don't hesitate to ask.
