O.K guys just after finding out once you guys clean your filters what oil you use after,do you use the k&n recommended oil or just a basic clean engine oil,or something else.

Use the K&N specific stuff mate. shouldn't need cleaned much though

Thats a pity,engine oil can get for nowt almost endless supply.I,m guessing it,s about a tenner is that right.Also to fit one of these filters is it a tank off or just lift the front section up to get to the box.

Supposed to do 50,000 miles before needing any work. 8)
Only just fitted mine today & havent had a proper chance to test it out but i reckon there was a little magic in the air when i went out for a quick spin

Yeah i was gonna say they don't need touching for 50,000 miles, and seeing as we don't have dusty air at all unlike hot countries then that's probably a good guide.
My bike is a tank off job to fit it.

For the price of it, it's only a few quid. In my experience it's always best to use the right thing for the job.

Its a tank off on the 2001 model anyway i know that much,well i suppose you could prob take the front bolt off by the handlebars & pivot an empty tank on its hinges by about 45 degrees & maybe get the filter out but after today i'd say just take the tank off completely.
First take off the front tank bolt.
Pivot the tank up about 30 degrees.
I had one electrical connection to disconnect using my fingers,just pulls out,think its the fuel gauge signal.
Then switch the fuel tap to off.
Then i had 1 fuel pipe to disconnect after releasing the quick release clip with needle nosed pliers.
Then i spilt a bit o fuel on my bike from said pipe before i blocked it up with a bit o kitchen roll like plugging a bleeding nose :o .
Now you can take out the tank hinge retaining pin with an allen key & lift off the tank.
Access is now all yours!!!!
But can you get through the rubber cover??????????
Look at me passing off this info as my own,in reality i am but a tiny prawn in the fazer sea but im glad i gave it a try & its really not as hard as it sounds on the ipad & its thanks to the fazer elders,wise & spindly of leg are thee :lol

It is possible to do it with the tank on but much easier with the tank off. to take the tank off then undo the bolt at the front of the tank (just below handlebars), Tank will then be able to flip up on the hinge at the back, best to not have too much fuel in it! Then underneath there is a tap, electrical connection and a pipe. this is for the fuel to go from the tank to the engine. Remove the electrical connection, this is for the fuel gauge, Turn off the tap, and have a few rags ready as you take off the pipe as there may be a dribble of fuel. There may also be two or one breather pipes attached to the bottom of the tank so release them too. Put the tank back down as it is when riding and undo the bolt at the hinge. The tank can now be lifted off, have somewhere ready to set it, like a folded cloth or old sheet so you don't scratch it. that's the tank done.
There are other threads saying how to actually change the filter so I'll let you search for them and read them. Basics are: rubber flap out the way, remove side panels, remove top cover or air box, remove old filter, put new one in, replace parts. Mind and switch on your fuel tap again before you bolt down the tank!

Hahaha, there is a rubber flap over the area that can be a pain but just get stuck in you'll be fine???... oh sorry...!!!

Look at the post below this one called "Engine Rebuild" and you'll see a video has just been put on there.
Go to 2mins 45secs on the video and look at the rubber sticking up in the centre of the bike, the filter box is underneath it.
Looking at that bike in the video, there does seem to be a chance of not removing the tank, but on mine you do have to.

Ha ha :lol yep im a waffler fair & square.luckily chris has popped up with some actual help,like he says theres lots o posts already on here about fitting the k&n but i have to admit it's a bit tricky trying to extract all the info from the various posts & i still haven't figured out the 'search' box function...maybe im searching for the wrong type o stuff :evil :evil :evil
Like he says when you get the tank off theres a rubber cover over the air filter housing box, a bit overkill i reckon but hey im all for all over engineering as it shouts quality!!!!
Dont be shy with the rubber,just yank it outta the way, taking off the plastic side panels gives you more room to be abusive & get it clear,theres 4 screws to take outta the air box,(the hose that you disconnected from the tank may get in the way of one of the screws but jus push it out the way,the fuels in the tank & its now outta the equation anyway).
