  MOT Checks.
Posted by: Lazarus - 02-04-13, 11:26 PM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

Had a bit of an off this morning on way to work.

Mostly cosmetic damage :

crash bung bent
nose cone scraped and cracked.
rear rack scraped.
rear passenger peg scraped.

indicator broken.

I have a spare indicator and have ordered replacement crash bungs.

Im assuming nothing in the above will cause an MOT failure?

  Fuel light
Posted by: demic77 - 02-04-13, 11:08 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (10)

At what point is the fuel light supposed to come on? Mine comes on briefly when you turn the ignition on then goes out. I went out today and the gauge dipped below slightly below E but still no light. Filled her up anyhow and she took 17 litres so i'm suspecting here was more to be had but didn't fancy running out in the middle of nowhere...

  Compression Tester Size
Posted by: humbucker88 - 02-04-13, 09:35 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (19)

My bike is of poor health, I recently replaced the head gasket as it was burning coolant but to no avail, runs a bit better now ive corrected the valve clearances and overhauled the carbs but still burning coolant. I'll probably buy a "new" head and see if that solves the problem but first I'd like to get a compression tester to pindown the cylinder(s) that's burning coolant.

Looking online the majority of kits fit spark plugs 16mm and 21mm, the NGK CR8E has a 10mm diameter but a 16mm hex size... I have no idea which of these the kits are refering to?

Here's an example:

Would really appreciate any help, am at my wits end!

Not a Go Ped but a Blata, an early one and not quite folding anymore.
Has new brake cables and new rear caliper,
New fuel tank
Runs ok and will do about 20mph from the little 27cc engine
Pull start centrifugal clutch, so twist and go
Sprung seat with suspension seat post as well
Bit tatty in places, chrome falling off or missing
I've added a few bits to make it look better where i can and is great fun, not on the roads of course

  Exhaust "Gasket, Muffler" Life?
Posted by: spoonlamp - 02-04-13, 05:44 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (12)

I took off the exhaust while putting on my hugger and it looks like the gasket/muffler w/e has preished some - is that what this is?
I can add more pics if required.

My questions are;
Do you expect this to happen every time you take the exhaust off?
Is about £20 a reasonable price to replace?
Will an after market can come with a new one?

Many thanks  Sad

mini bike cam problem (fixing wind noise)
Posted by: simonm - 02-04-13, 05:34 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (1)

Bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290789597574?s...1439.l2649 from China as it seemed recommended (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,6679....l#msg62530)

I've used the velcro on my helmet as I'm delaying any permanent attachment until Alexander potentially does a write up on how he did his (learn from the master ;-))

The problem I have is wind noise on the microphone.  Any advice ?, just stick tape over it or can I use anything else to muffle it ?

I've taken it apart and I'm pondering disconnecting the microphone or perhaps seeing if I can shoehorn a 3.5mm jack in to the back plate with a microphone in the helmet.

Ideas ?

I would post this in general forum but I'm afraid that I'm spamming the threads too much as it is  Wink

A question of respect (let the flaming begin...)
Posted by: simonm - 02-04-13, 04:59 PM - Forum: General - Replies (76)

Not that I'm argumentative, contentious, difficult or like to have a good "debate" but here is one for you.

How fine is the line between respect for the police and not ?

Background:
- I once looked at being a copper but the paperwork, hell the application form, looked like just too much effort (I'm a lazy sod too).  I also wondered if it was a thankless job.
- I was pulled over and given 3 points for overtaking a car and caravan that was doing 20mph on a clear road because the final part of the maneuver ended on double white lines (darn it).
- I was doing 70mph and gaining on a car and moved out to overtake when a jam sandwich was doing 80+mph without any lights on in the outside lane on the way back to the police station at the next roundabout.  My view was that since there were no blues n twos I was within my rights to overtake and that the police car should not have been driving over the speed limit anyway.  Copper pulled me over tried to tell me off, I gave him a mouthful, and we backed off.

Context:
Since I was pulled over I became critical of the police, I've seen no reason to change my view.  I frequently see police using excessive speed without any emergency lights and performing what I would call dangerous manoeuvres in 30 mph zones.

I know the police do a good job, I know it's a thankless task, but why are they so intent on making it 'us' and 'them' ?  I want to like and respect the police but I just don't.

I'm going on a bikesafe course which is run by bike coppers but I am sure (pretty positive) that I will see these guys in a completely different light to the car based police and the guys and girls that turn up after the horse has bolted.

Conclusion:
How can I change my viewpoint ?

I'm sure this could degenerate in to a flame war but I just don't quite understand what changed the beat bobby and the police in to the face of repression to me.  I don't see a copper and smile because whenever they look at me I feel as if I'm being judged when I'm not guilty of anything.  It's been a long time since I saw a member of the police force smile and have a laugh.

Lets hope the bikesafe course readjusts my perspective.
