Some pics from France - ChristoT - 02-04-13

Seeing as I've made it home, I thought I'd make you lot jealous by posting some pics I took earlier around and about my home in Brittany!

France. Excellent wine and cheese, empty roads, better weather what's not to like? Parisians maybe...  Wink

No-one likes them. Especially the French!  :lol I'm glad I'm a Breton!

Thanks! I plan to hit a few of my favourite haunts, and take some more pics to have you green with envy before I return to Blighty.  :rollin :rollin

I met a Breton in a Pub when I was touring over there a few years ago. He was wearing the full attire at some festival and was very passionate about his roots. Lovely place and enjoyed my visit there very much. I think it was over in the Carmac/Vannes region.

Thanks!

In the first 3 pics, the bike is facing towards (and is only about 400 metres from) Lyvet, a little hamlet on the river Rance, which is 5 minutes away from home.

The second two pics were taken at the Cale du Chatelier, an even smaller hamlet just down the river - the cale is visible in the first pic - it's the greyish "streak" to the right of the mudguard. Likewise, in pic 4, you see the cliff from which I took the first three photos.  8)

I was tempted to ask if it was the Rance, been up there through the Chatelier Lock quite a few times on the boat on way to Dinan, Evran and further.  Can be a bit scarey geting upto that lock on a falling tide and no where else to go  :eek .

I didn't know you sailed! What d'you have?  Smile

We kept our Dufour Classic 41 in Lyvet one summer as we prepared it for homeschooling (back in 2003/4 when I was 11 years old), and we found the worst bit wasn't the Lyvet lock but the one at the Barrage de la Rance! That one's horrible. We also had an "interesting moment" at the railway bridge just before Lyvet's lock - the bridge had a nominal clearance of 19m at high tide, our mast was 17m!!

I regularly go over that swing bridge too - it's 5 mins from my house! I also had a summer job as a cook in the restaurent to the left of the bridge - the Saint Patrick. All very local to me!  Smile

I am down the motor boat path,  got a 29' Fjord cabin cruiser so don't really have a problem with air draft, there are some low bridges up by Evran. Used to do 28Knts re-engined 12 odd years ago will do 41 knts now with a clean bottom.

Have not been down that way for a few years and got a new woman friend, so never know

Anyway signing off now going for a pint, then back home more to do on bike tonight
