This is the aluminium housing with a two bolt fix onto the front of the cylinder block, mine is suffering with terminal corrosion. Does anyone know if the FZ6 housing would fit with a bit of fiddling with the hoses ?

many thanks Tony

On-duty police officer dies in crash in Southampton
Posted by: Grahamm - 03-04-13, 11:17 PM - Forum: General - Replies (39)

Another reminder that we're all vulnerable on bikes Sad

Quote:A police officer riding an unmarked motorbike has been killed in a crash outside a Southampton petrol station. He was on duty at the time, but was not involved in a pursuit or responding to a 999 call, Hampshire Constabulary said.
The officer's police bike collided with a BMW outside the Shell garage on Thomas Lewis Way in Swaythling at about 14:00 BST.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

  ticking battery
Posted by: nickodemon - 03-04-13, 10:19 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (10)

Hi, got a slightly unusual one... Battery has been charged on optimate on/off over the winter. Battery 'yuasa' was bought last year and went on short runa a couple of days ago, got to garage fueled up and wouldn't start, so bumped it and started, so went for long run up motorway at approx 5000 rpm. stopped somewhere nice for a pint. Came out after pint and bike started no problems. couple of days later i thought i would put optimate back on, as i will need the bike for work next week. Left on charge for a few hours and the optimate indicated trickle charge meaning it was at a good voltage, but i noticed a ticking sound coming from the battery plus a slightly wet patch. The wet patch wasn't where you put the rubber cover after buying and filling it, but behind it where there is a cover with two removable covers with metal bits underneath and a cover between them, which appears to be where the leak is... This is a new one for me.. Any ideas? :'(

  Instrument needles
Posted by: Foxwood - 03-04-13, 09:55 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

Had the brilliant idea to change the gauge faceplates on my Fazer and that procedure involved removing the needles from their axles. The speedo and fuel needles were pretty hard on, but in the end came off nicely. The tacho however, came out with the axle.  :'(

So got the new faceplates on and put the needles in what I remembered to be the position I took them off. Bullocks! Gave the instrument panel some power (no ignition): speedo jumps to 60 kph and fuel to 1/4 (even though I know that the tank is almost empty).  Got the engine running: tacho shows idle at ~2100 rpm (even though I know I've adjusted it to 1250 rpm) and after I turn the machine off, it doesn't drop to zero.

Speedo I fixed by taking the needle off again and putting it on a -60 kph placement, which is handily almost dead south on the clocks. Can't test the speedo on the road yet, because there's 15 cm of ice/snow outside my garage doors.

So now I'm guessing that the tacho just needs to be repositioned -2100 rpm of  it's current alignment? Or does that also need to be aligned first to dead south? Or does anyone know better?

The fuel meter was a bit weird even before I changed it, so I'm not too overly concerned with that one, but I'll try to align it properly also the next time I take the dials off.

Just went for a spin on my cousins bike for the last time before I have to bring it back on Friday and the exhaust fell off about a mile from home, just split at the joint under the peg, had to pull it forward and onto the peg and hold it with my foot against the peg so no rear brake the rest of the way home, now I'm panicking. The end of the exhaust looks like it completely rusted and doesn't look like there's any exhaust left to clamp the down pipe from the slip on onto the exhaust. Any ideas?

  Green for the day!

Took my fazer to the shop today to have a new engine coolant temp sensor fitted after being told on the phone it would be done whilst I waited as I had previously told them I can not be without a bike.

When I arrived I was told I'd have to leave my bike over night! Long story short they gave me a ninja 300 with 106 miles on the clock.

It now has 168 miles on the clock as I made the most of the setting sun. It's light weight and handles great, soon gets to 90 too but doesbt have much left after that.

Fun Big Grin
