  2003 FZS600 Fazer For Sale
Posted by: bikeownerus - 24-05-13, 08:38 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (12)

Hi,

It is with a heavy heart, but my faithful Fazer 600 should probably go to a another home .....?

First the spec, then the history

  • Fazer FZS600 registered June'03 - Red
  • I am 2nd owner
  • I acquired Jan'08 as the 'perfect' 2nd hand purchase in Jan'08 with 5500 miles on the clock
  • It now has 26500 miles on the clock
  • Very good recent tyres
  • Aftermarket silencer with original as spare
  • META alarm system with spare fob + 'magic' number
  • KN air filter
  • 'Fancy' (expensive?) plugs
  • Rad cover
  • Spare key
  • Spare seat - with small tear
  • Seat on bike also has a tiny tear which is 'patched'
  • Recent replacement battery (gel)
  • Currently on SORN
  • Will come with full 12 months MOT
I bought this as an immaculate low mileage example which had been used by a lovely old guy only when the temperature was above 20C.
Nonetheless he had it serviced regardless of mileage.
I bought it as a practical work machine and used it from March'08 to March'12 as such - doing about 50 gentle miles a day - predominantly A roads.
I have done all servicing myself changing oil and filter very regularly. I have also done the fork oil and balanced the carbs a few times.
I have had the down pipes off a couple of times and painted and sprayed them - they are totally solid but it's an engineers job rather than an immaculate finish!
The bike has never ever let me down - if I had to ride to Portugal tomorrow (I wish), I would bet my mortgage it would get there with zero issues.
The bike is very clean and genuine but not showroom immaculate.
I am a gentle old fart of a rider - I have too much mechanical sympathy and insufficient nerve to get any where near a 'wheelie'.
It is still on original chain and sprox and these have loads of life left ...... sorry!

Why am I facing the inevitable and reluctantly selling it .....?
  • I have changed job and no longer do a bike based commute
  • I inadvertently bought a TRX850 off e-bay and this is now my high days and holidays 'toy' (I would not trust this to get me to Portugal yet!)
  • I want something to tinker with - the TRX is a tinkerers delight - the Fazer is boringly reliable!
I don't need to sell but it's sitting in my garage as an under utilised asset.

Looking for £1700 - does that sound fair?

Very happy to chat at length: 07789 455 472

Thanks for persevering

Doug

  Small lower fairing
Posted by: Loz - 24-05-13, 07:00 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (4)

Hoping you may be able to help, I have seen some pics of Gen 1 fazers with a small extra bit of fairing that seems to run from the nose down the radiator panel to the belly pan but colour coded, anyone know where I can get it? I have searched and can find the add on half/full fairing but that's about £5-600 that's not what I want it's just that small extra bit  :rolleyes

  Headlight opinion
Posted by: Dan.C. - 24-05-13, 05:30 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (18)

Hello!
New guy here!  Smile
I bought an accidented FZS and I am in the middle of rebuild process.
I like this headlight:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400442015100?s...1438.l2648

But, can't find any review. Nowhere!
Are the 2x25W bulbs too week for a decent illumination? Anybody?
Thank you!

Braided Brake Lines - Any good ? Easy to fit ?
Posted by: Enceladus - 24-05-13, 03:50 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (18)

been toying with the idea of replacing the standard lines on my bike (and car for that matter) with braided ones.
are they any good ?
what difference is there in brake "feel" if any ?
and the big question is....
are they easy to fit & bleed ?
thanks Smile

  Cam chain tensioner and rattles
Posted by: FazerRuss - 24-05-13, 03:32 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (1)

Reading this chaps thread...

http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,7714.0.html

How common a failure are the cam chain tensioners please people?

What are we talking.....1 in 100, 1 in 5?

I think my cam chain is a bit noisy (18k miles), as it seems to occassionally rattle slightly when decelerating through 3500-2000 rpm, but I can't decide if (a) they're all like that Sir! (b) it's because the bike's just had a fresh oil change © the cam chain adjuster is stuck.  The thing is, i don't recall hearing it before I changed the oil - and spent the weekend frigging about with the EXUP valve - so maybe it's always been like it and I'm just being paranoid  :look  I've tried the thrashing the arse off it trick too, made no difference.

It's not major rattles all the time, nor is it especially loud - no issues with the bikes performance either.

I'm just a bit confused, as everything i've read suggests the cam chains rattle when the bike's cold.  Whereas mine seems to rattle only when it's been ridden for 30 mins or so and is nice and hot. :\

I am thinking of popping the adjsut out and checking it over.  Do they have a gasket, as I didn't need a gasket when I took the one out on my bandit and put it back in again?

I must admit, the price of new adjusters is ridiculous.  I swear new bits for my Bandit never used to be as stupidly priced.....

Where do you put your helmet ? (ooer!)
Posted by: Davebo - 24-05-13, 10:45 AM - Forum: General - Replies (40)

I noticed in a recent pic (and elsewhere) people put their prized crash helmets on seats, mirrors, etc.

Having lost a custom painted (motor racing) helmet to the tarmac after it blew off the boot of the car I have always tried to stick to - "If it's not on my head it's on the floor" - on the basis that it is difficult for it to fall off the floor.

Any views ?

Just got back from a 2 week, 3000 mile tour of Europe taking in Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and Spain. The Fazer never missed a beat, and with heated grips, was the perfect companion  Big Grin
