out on my 53 plate 1000cc the night, after putting it on the road
filled it with fresh fuel, went a run done about 90 mile all fine,
then on overrun it popped 3 or 4 times back though exhaust, then cut out
checked all conections all seemed fine, let it sit for a bit tried again it started but as soon as you try to rev it cuts out
any common faults, sticky floats??

  Luxembourg trip
Posted by: Phil - 26-06-13, 08:38 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Well worth a small detour if you are passing by.

I had a week off and intended going to Scotland via the Wales & Yorkshire Dales, but the weather forecast wasnt that great so went to Luxembourg instead. Fantastic roads, couldn't believe the surface quality on even the smallest roads. Northern Luxembourg is basically a high plateau of gently rolling hills given to arable/livestock farming, crossed with steeply sided valleys with small rivers/streams. Off the main roads there was very little traffic. Southern Luxembourg is more built up and busy on the roads, but still has some nice roads. Petrol €1.30 a litre.

I couldn't find a decent map of the country before I left, the country is quite small so on a map of Europe Luxembourg takes up about 1/10th of a page. Luckily, the owner of the hotel I booked (Hotel de la Sure) was a keen motorcyclist and the hotel was one of the first hotels in Luxembourg to offer motorbiking holidays. Nice place in Esch-sur-Sure. On booking.com it didn't mention this, so was a chance find. There was also a garage reserved for bikes only 200 metres away. Fantastic.
He gave me an A3 size map of the country, 1cm : 1.4k scale so quite detailed. Drew his favourite tour over it in marker pen and places to visit.  There was also an additional loop  around the lake if required.  On the day I did that I think I overtook 10 cars/tractors/buses all day.

Food was a bit pricey there as it was a gourmet resturant, but very good. Trout (out of the lake), stuffed with salmon pate, crayfish bisque sauce etc. €22.
Just down the road a cheaper bar, sausage and frites €5. They served 'Kwak' beer there, which had to be tasted. I didn't realise it was 8.5% proof until I read the label. Felt pissed after just one.

A couple of nights there then down to the south, before heading onwards to Eiffel area again.
I wish I'd stayed longer in the north of Luxembourg, its like riding around Cadwell Park.

Triumph Street and Speed Triples were quite popular around Luxembourg.

2 days of breezy partly cloudy days, 3 of scorching sun and 34c, 1 of thunderstorms and heavy rain showers most of the day and a couple more breezy partly cloudy days with the odd light shower.

This weekend five of us are riding around Wales  :eek about 600 miles stopping over Saturday night in Gwbert on our way around.

We did it about two years ago and it was great- this time we are going backwards- well the other direction- not litterally backwards- that would be silly!

Forecast isnt too bad and bike fettled ready just needs a good clean but thinking about it maybe I will do it when I get back. I am lucky, my brother in law has a blade!

Last time I went for sponsorship for Wales air Ambulance but this time I am looking for pennies for Thankful Village-

Dont know if you have heard of this but two bikers are starting 27th July for 9 days riding 2500 miles to visit 51 thankful vilages- where all the young soldiers who left for the first world war all came home so they have no war memorial..... some (very few) are double thankful villages in that all that went to the second world war also came home.

Triumph have donated two bikes for the trip- not sure if they can auction them off afterwards- that would be nice... but they are trying to raise £51k for the British legion and I am trying to do my bit

Not an ex soldier but I was in the TA and nowadays - that is the same thing!- before we were SAS.... Saturdays and Sundays and a joke but today around half of the fighting force is volunteers.

Anyway- if you would like to sponsor me go to thankfulvillagesrun.com and pledge a couple of quid in a good cause- I will be getting callouses on my a55 this weekend in their name and riding with them in July for some of the way- the last but one village is four miles from me!

Thanks for reading this
