| Replacement keys - advice please! |

My 2008 FZ1 came with 1 key and the red master.
Having lost or broke keys in the past, me thinks better get another spare black one just in case.
Bought spare off eBay, arrived and cut at local key grinder, chip read as per spec found on-line, jobs a good 'un!
Here's the BUT though, original black key that came with the bike now longer acknowledged by immobiliser! :'(
So, programme original key, then new one won't be seen by ECU!
Is this just the way it is? Only 1 key as with master allowed to be programmed at a time? Or have I just bought a DUD from the Bay? :\
So spare key to be read when original lost, which is why red master is so valuable?
Any thoughts or detail please let me know,
Dick Snow.

Me and 9 others are off to France, leaving Stoke at 4 am on Friday morning. We are off to my place in Premery for some sun, relaxation, wonderful riding roads, beer, wine and general shenanigans.
Entry into France forms ready to fill in. Check
Masks. Check
Cash. Check.
Bike sorted. Er, well, no actually, the wheels are still off after being balanced, but i'll sort it tomorrow morning.
Missus prepped for a long time in the saddle. Check.
Music playlist for the trip put onto MP3 player. Check.
Licence, V5 and insurance stashed on bike. Check.
Hotel on the way down booked and paid for. Check.
There's lots more but I'm getting over excited now.
See you all after a week of fun, riding, drinking and 30 degree sunshine.

Hi all. Thanks for letting me join the community!
I'm Bob, 37 and on the West Coast of Scotland. Have a 2009 fz1-s. Love it! Had it 2 years now. Its got 37k miles under its belt and never missed a beat for an mot, 1 fail for tyres being done and only advisories were for wheel bearings and rear suspension bearing! Happy days!
I am not very experienced with mechanics but need to learn as I can't afford to send it to the garage for the slightest wee jobs anymore as furlough has been a hard time (for everyone I know) so I am probably going to ask lots of stupid or frustrating questions, so I appreciate your patience in advance!
Hope to get to know a few of you enough for some laughs and banter too.
Cheers
Bob

Hi all and thanks for the add. Ive had lots of Yams but this 2002 FZS600 is my first Fazer. Just wrote off my SV650 and a friend sold me this as he has given up riding. Its done very few miles over 18 years but lived onder a cover so have started the process of deep cleaning.

A friend of mine is turning 50 next month and has been talking about riding since I have known him. His wife has bought him a direct access booking for his birthday. He's been driving for years so already has road sense and traffic patterns knowledge and experience. He's around 6' 4" and well built and has asked me what I would recommend for a first bike. When I ask what lines he's thinking along he wants more of a 'tourer' style, nothing too new so that's it's not precious (up to around £6k perhaps) and definitely something that's not too small given his body size. He's very comfortable sitting on my Fazer thousand but doesn't like the idea of that much bhp for a first bike. I came up with: CB1000 (SC30), CB1300SA, tiger 800, R1150R but none of them seemed to appeal to him. He suggested a Versys 650, but I know that the ER-6n it's based on is bordering on the tiny. Any other suggestions?

| Fuel smell |

I've got my bike stored temporarily in my conservatory as I had to take the fairing off and work on the instrument cluster to fix the faulty LCD odometer display (all sorted now).
There is a definite smell of fuel. There are no fuel leaks or anything showing on the bike, its completely dry.
After I fixed the odometer I started it to check the tacho function and it backfired. I had turned the ignition on and off quite a few times whilst I was fault finding on the instruments. Assuming the ticking noise when you turn it on is the fuel pump, so maybe just overfuelling?
The fuel smell was there before I did the work on it though.
So anything to worry about?

Found this on ebay -

Ive spoken to the seller, essentially what you have is a 2006 with 22k on the clock that needs a replacement frame for 2k. Basically the insurance company were a bunch of fucking idiots, that mistook flaking paint for a fault with the main frame and just wrote it off for no sane logical reason.
The guy I spoke to said a few dealers in Europe have already been in contact with him, so you guys better move quickly. If I had somewhere to do the frame swap I would have bought it this evening.
