  Tablet advice
Posted by: Tmation - 04-07-13, 05:24 PM - Forum: General - Replies (12)

My mum wants to get my dad and iPad or other tablet for his birthday. They don't have a computer in the house but can get cheap broadband from their phone supplier.

What's the best to go for for a non tech savy old bloke? he will need one that is stand alone (no need for 3G) and hopefully can be connected to his Sony TV via USB or HDMI as I have a Sky package that he can view on the tablet.

I use MAC, PC and Android so I was thinking a Google Nexus 10 would be cheaper and easier to use, no need for an iTunes account etc etc. I can set him up a GMail account and he won't be buying any apps, just using free ones.

Any thoughts or advice most appreciated.

Does Your Insurance Company Know About Mods?
Posted by: nick crisp - 04-07-13, 04:50 PM - Forum: General - Replies (9)

We all like to personalise our bikes - it's good to stand out from the crowd a bit isn't it? But how much do you tell your insurance company about what you've done to yours? Put a comfier seat on...well, probably don't need to let them know about that. Goodridge brake lines? Actually makes it safer doesn't it? What about that race can tho'? Had it Ivanised, or some other fairly common performance mod? Or gone outright mental with aftermarket or home made everything? What do you think you'll get away with not telling them about, if it comes to a claim?

  Issues with alarm Meta 357Tv2
Posted by: Arfa - 04-07-13, 04:27 PM - Forum: General - Replies (9)

The alarm on my bike has started playing up. It no longer sounds. No beeping when armed or disarmed. And I can't get it to trigger when rocking the bike once armed (and after the initial 10 secs). However the indicator lights still flash as before when arming/disarming and the immobiliser still works.

Any ideas? Have I enabled one of it's obscure modes of operation or is there a genuine fault?

  Blackheath rozzer fest!
Posted by: steeeve66 - 04-07-13, 03:28 PM - Forum: General - Replies (6)

Passed through Blackheath twice today, in then out of town, and the hi-viz rozzers were out in force stopping traffic - unusually tho, since I was on a bike, not me. Anyone see who they were stopping? Any special occasion or just one of their 'crackdowns' on something or other?

  Parking question.
Posted by: Buzz - 04-07-13, 12:19 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Apologies for this, but I'm not used to parking in unknown places and have a massive paranoia of leaving the bike in an illegal place.

I'll be leaving the bike next to the pole from 6:30pm till about 11pm, is this OK according to the restrictions?

I'm sure it's fine but just wanted to check.

Posted by: Enceladus - 04-07-13, 11:27 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (8)

something else that been on my "to do" list for a while is change the spark plugs.
think its still on the original ones and for my own piece of mind i'm going to change them.
while i'm at it, i might as well have some that are a bit better Wink
anyone know the codes for iridium plugs please ?
also, is any "brand" of spark plug better than others ?
thanks Smile

No - haven't given up on the GT, in for its first service. Was offered this or a Daytona. Would have been a different choice if I were going to London today.

It's very ermmm ... big

Posted by: tomjimtom - 04-07-13, 11:05 AM - Forum: Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) - Replies (5)

Just booked my tickets!
Now I have some questions...
I've never been to Silverstone, where would be the best place to try and get? F1 websites come up a lot saying Stowe Corner?

Also, any ideas when I should be trying to get there? based in kent, so looking at about 2 hours to get there :o

Thanks
Tom
