  More Gallery Sub-Categories
Posted by: nick crisp - 18-07-13, 06:07 PM - Forum: Your Suggestions and How you can help - Replies (2)

Would it be possible/practical to create some extra gallery categories such as "Other Bikes" (other than Fazers, other stuff we've owned, seen or just like), maybe one of "Touring Shots"  with scenery, nice roads we've ridden etc, plus any others if people have further suggestions? Was looking at "Our Bikes", but it just seems a bit all mixed in to me?

  carb balancing?
Posted by: mickvp - 18-07-13, 05:35 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (75)

sorry for the most basic, stupid (?) question guys. but I see a lot of mention of balancing carbs on this site. This is great, and something I will do at some point. however, what are the symptoms of a carb out-of-balance? i.e. what will I look for to know when its time to actually do it?

As some of you will know, Ive not long passed my test, and only just got my fazer, so technically the carbs could need balanced now but as the bike is new to me, i may assume that the way it works now is normal, if that makes sense? it doesnt run like a bag of bolts in a washing machine or anything, but now and again the idle is oh-so-slightly lumpy? I assume this could be a symptom of the carbs being out of balance?

sorry  :agree

  EXUP valve movement
Posted by: FazerRuss - 18-07-13, 04:01 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Just wondering, how stiff should the valve be in the collector box?

The reason for asking, is that I've (as some may have read) recently refurbished an exhaust and exup valve.

The valve was very seized and took quite a bit of effort to free up.

It'sll all nicely moving in the bushes at both ends now, but it did take a little bit of tweaking as I think the valve was slightly bent.  It's at a poitn now where I've tweaked it back and forth to find where it is the most free moving, but to me it still feels like there's a little resistance.

My only comparison is my current one, which is very loose in the bushes - seems almost too loose - and as I don't know what mielage bike this other exhuast came off, I've no idea if it seized early in it's life and therefore hasn't worn as much as mine (which wasn't seized when I eventually got the bugger out to grease it up!).

I can turn the pulley by hand just using thumb and index finger, and there's no resistance points now I've straightened it out, but it feels....dunno...it doesn't slop around if you know what I mean.  Feels a bit like the end is in a tub of a viscous liquid or something.  It's not tight, doesn't stick in places, there's just a general light resistance.

Perhaps the servo is quite manly and as long as the valve isn't sticking it won't be an issue.

Just thought i'd ask the question before I swap exhausts over.

Cheers

Russ

  Shim Change and Mileage
Posted by: N A Chess - 18-07-13, 01:25 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (9)

On 48,000 miles on my '99 FZS600 and engine sounds sweet still. Any ideas at what mileage the shims normally need changing?

I commute on urban roads mostly and so never really get the chance to open her up. Serviced every 4000 miles. I'd be interested to hear other riders' mileage when shims were changed.

Bringing the foxeye back from the dead
Posted by: bellycgb - 18-07-13, 09:55 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (29)

Hi all its been a VERY long time since i posted here. good to see FOC-U is still going strong Big Grin My 02 FZS600 has been sitting in the garage for 6 years and i really want to get it back on the road. I have two major issues. first it won't move... the wheels are locked solid (maybe the brakes are clamped on?) and the fact that the chain resembles a brown rope doesn't help either lol. also im sure there is old fuel in the take so i guess that will need flushing.
i will take it to a proper mechanic but anything i can do will be awesome.

so i guess the first thing i should do is cut the chain off as its past the point of being usable. see if i can somehow release the brakes and flush the tank. guess the carbs will need cleaning too?

any advice of what to look for and tips would be great.

will post some pictures later
