Grips?
Posted by: Robbus - 30-07-13, 07:14 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (20)

Hi all,

I'm thinking of changing my bars to the highly recommended Renthal 758s - although must admit to thinking about bucking the trend with 754s  Wink

I've got some no-name heated grips on currently which are unlikely to survive removal, and I don't find them comfy anyway as I've apparently got big hands. I stuck on some grip puppies at the weekend which has improved things but has gone slightly too far on the diameter front, so I'm looking for some recommendations for bog standard grips, the only ones I've found so far that tempt me are Renthal Kevlar jobbies in 32mm diameter but they're a bit of a weird colour  :crazy I should engage my brain at some point too and measure the diameter of the current grips!

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Rob

Just fitted a rear maxxis diamond to the fz1 and went for a bit of a scrub in.
First impression is a very positive one! Due to the pointy shape of the profile, the bike tips in much better than before, the old tyre (contimotion) was worn evenly, and not square, still handled well, but had a more rounded profile.
This diamond tips in quicker, which seems to suit the fz, and my riding style a lot better, then seems to 'plant' itself in the bend. Its a wierd feeling, bit I like it so far.
Ill keep you all updated in its progress as I tip it over more.

Ok, so, after being out for about 150 miles in the complete downpour earlier I now have electrical problems,
So- '03 fzs600
If I turn on the main lights (dipped beam) headlights do not come on and I have a buzzing noise coming from a relay located behind the clocks, also the clocks turn off- no odometer, no speedo, no rev counter, no clock and for some reason the fuel gauge goes up to full!
Fuses are fine and I swapped the relay for a brand new one- same buzzing and faults so gave the relay back to the shop (luckily I swapped it outside the shop because it was £22 for the relay!)
If I put the switch to sidelights then I get sidelights and rear lights no problems- and the clocks work!
Now,  if I use the indicators they don't work and the clocks turn off and on again resetting the time clock,
The same if I use the 'pass' button.
The horn does not work but does not reset the clocks like the other switches do!
If I push the hazard button the indicators do not flash but the sidelights do!
I've had the tank off and all connector blocks are dry and connected snugly.
Anybody any ideas, the only thing I can think of next is maybe there is a problem with the whole left hand switch gear, but if this is the case why do I get the buzzing from the relay for main lights!?

cam chain rattle/ valve clearances / buggered engine
Posted by: Dcock - 30-07-13, 06:29 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Whats wrong with my 1998 Fzs600 with 30k on the clock?
I took the cam chain tensioner off the other night and it was fully extended, i don't believe it has had its valve clearances checked either. The tick usually goes away after 15 mins of riding although has got worse recently.

Please check out the youtube video below and vote. Also reply if you have more info for me. Cheers.

  Engine mounting bolts
Posted by: Yamazer-92 - 30-07-13, 05:12 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Well I've been getting some nasty vibration through my right footpeg recently at cruising speeds which is getting really annoying and I've read here about people with loose engine bolts. I want to eliminate that theory but I dont know what bolts the manual is on about for the front as it gives 2 figures, 33nm and 55nm but doesnt actually show a pic of which one is which. Here's a pic in case anyone doesn't now what I'm on about. Cheers.

Help please!! Hate riding on motorways.......
Posted by: N A Chess - 30-07-13, 05:01 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (67)

The reason??  I get battered to f@ck by the wind - and that, along with the resultant noise comparable to sticking my head out of a car window at 100mph means I get no pleasure from motorway riding and try to avoid if I can.

It seems that the laws of physics and mathematics has resulted in my 6'3" frame and double bubble screen creating a perfect collision area of wind blast direct to me at face level.  :'(

If I lean forward, it eases slightly, but I cannot ride like that permanently.

I'd welcome the views and advice of similarly tall riders who have a set-up that is more comfortable than mine.  I currently have a powerbronze double-bubble.

Many thanks. Ride safe.

  going batty

This did make me laugh
My 8yr old son Matthew and Amelia (5)  are at his gramparents for a few days ( school hols) and at lunch time my sisterinlaw to be went in to see them

The gramparents are having the ceiling in the lounge replaced and new spot lights fitted so its pretty open beams felt and wires hanging out !

read on !

Matthew: Arrgghhhhh there's a bat in the living room!!!

sisterinlaw: Yeh, whatevs...

Matthew: There is! It's huge!

Matthew then shows me how large it is with his hands (about 2-3 foot long)

sisterinlaw: That's not a bat, it's a pterodactyl.
... Amelia: (Crying) I don't like pterodactyls...(cuddles up to Mum)

sisterinlaw: Bats turn into vampires so if it does and he's fit just give me a shout.

We all head back into the kitchen and leave Matthew with the "bat"
2 minutes later...

Matthew: It's backkkkkk!!!!

sisterinlaw :So I walk into the living room and come face to face with a bat. A large bat.

I scream....run out and slam the door shut leaving Matthew in there with it and all you can hear is him screaming.......lol.....whoops
I open the door again and feel around for Matthew, grab him and pull him out by his shirt.

Damage is done. He's now scared of bats.
And pterodactyls.

I have terrorised the kids yet again.

Posted by: aj1soad - 30-07-13, 02:31 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (18)

im having a bit of trouble with spark plug number 3. everytime it rains water settles near the spark plug and makes it missfire. ive checked the drain hole and its clear. it rained a bit this morning and my bike was outside and when i start it up you can hear like a poping noise and when i level the bike up you can see water draining out. also when the bike was running i touched the spark plug lead and got a shock :| could i have a problem with the ht lead not getting a complete seal around the plug? i did try putting a bit of copper grease around the base of the rubber to try and stop water getting in but obviously hasnt worked. any ideas? thanx

  Crash. Fix. Test. Tweak

Hi there.

I had a pretty major moment on my FZS600 a couple of months ago and whilst I walked away pretty much unscathed, I can't say the same for my bike.
I won't get into it, but the front end was totalled, and I'm sure if I'd been fully comp it would have been a right off.

I'm taking a level 2 IMI course in motorcycle mechanics and engineering so the whole thing was blessing in disguise. It's allowed me to indulge in my own little project whilst riding my 125 (YBR) to work and financing the whole operation.

So I'm now at the point where the bike is up and running, everything's going great, but the bike just doesn't feel quite the same. And why should it? Half of it's been pieced and patched from other Fazers! This might just be a confidence thing- I had a major accident and got lucky- so after that experience of course I'm going to have a new perspective on my ride. But to an extent the bike does feel different.

For one thing, the brakes (Brembo blue bolts, not changed post-accident) feel a lot softer, despite a thorough bleeding, and are slow to respond. For another, the forks (a replacement from another Fazer) don't respond all too well and I'm feeling a lot more from the road surface, from minor bumbs to grip.

Seeing as I've gotten this far with the bike, I figure I might as well go the extra mile and make the bike my own, investing in a few performance parts. So far I'm looking at the brake discs and radiator. This is where I'm stuck. What I'm looking for is a few recommendations from my fellow FOC-cers in regards to these aftermarket/ performance parts. What works for you? Are there any manufactured parts seen way above the rest? Are there any I should avoid?? Have you had a similar incident? Is what I'm feeling from the bike normal after a crash, or is there something I should be keeping an eye on in regards to the bike?

Any and all advice would be very much appreciated, so thanks guys and girls. Discuss!  Big Grin
