Just fitted a rear maxxis diamond to the fz1 and went for a bit of a scrub in.
First impression is a very positive one! Due to the pointy shape of the profile, the bike tips in much better than before, the old tyre (contimotion) was worn evenly, and not square, still handled well, but had a more rounded profile.
This diamond tips in quicker, which seems to suit the fz, and my riding style a lot better, then seems to 'plant' itself in the bend. Its a wierd feeling, bit I like it so far.
Ill keep you all updated in its progress as I tip it over more.

old rubber, it's time for a new one I think, it's been on 11 months and done 5,200 miles. Which is 1,500 more than the battleaxe were doing.

They're not bad tyres those Maxxis, only issue I'v ever had with them through riding mates bikes so equippe is that at lean, if you accelerate, you can feel the tyre "flexing a bit". Haven't had them let go, but it's just a very odd feeling! Mates have told me you soon learn to ride around it though and just place more trust in the tyres!

Nice one. I've just been out for a bit more of a scrub in, and they're really good. Gotta chase my wing man with it on yet, that'll be the real deal breaker, he's a nutter!

I fitted suppermaxx touring 2 years ago in September and just about to change the rear in the next few weeks. I have a brand new... Suppermaxx touring to go on it. I like Maxxis and they can easily out perform me. I know some people think they are rubbish. One guy I spoke in Inverery called them tractor tyres. His name is uncle Ian, and he is known to be mental on his blade, so maybe they are not enough for him. But for me, they grip well, have me leaning further, accelerating harder out of corners and braking later. The wet grip is decent too, and they are constructed better than any other brand in this price bracket. Kevlar belts instead of wire mesh old hat.
Keep on doing what your doing Maxxis, and I'll keep on buying them.

Yep, been using the Supermax on my fzs 600 for the past couple of years for mostly commuting, but I've scratched on them with the litre class boys and kept up with them with no problems.
Most of those that say the tyres are crap are pretty much tyre snobs that just 'want' big brand rubber, and can't ride properly. There are race schools that use these tyres with no problems. There are of course some riders who are nuts and overpower them with litre sports bikes! :o

how much for a set Ste and are they long lasting (I know you only just fitted this one but any feedback from your mates)?
I ride on motorways so I'm on Avons at the mo which give good mileage

I paid £94 fitted for the rear on a loose wheel at my local bike garage.
I did a bit of research on them before I bought, and there are some superb reports, some claiming up to 8k rear on touring bikes! I'm not convinced of the mileage claims, but the rear seems like a good tyre so far. Ill keep you posted on its progress.

Tyre choice is most often down to personal choice. Over the years I have used Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Michelin, Metzeler and Pirelli and whereas all had good points and bad points, I have never used Avon or Maxxis only because I did not get around to them. There were some which suited my riding style more than others. Very very few tyres are rubbish nowdays. If you ask 20 different riders in a pub you will probably get 8 different preferences and each will have a valid reason.
The three I now use are Metzeler, Michelin or Dunlop in that order with my preference being the feel and handling characteristics of Metzler Sportec M5. Of these three Michelin warm up the quickest and Dunlop the slowest.

I totally agree with you unfazed, and like you have used loads of different tyres. I do believe though that us mere mortals who are not pro racers will barely notice any difference in the different tyres (within that s/t class ofcourse).
The one thing I can't stand is people accusing tyres that they have not used for being crap just because of a name when all they have is a preconception based on little or no fact.

Maddog, I have done around 5k on my tires and about to change the rear. I am no GP hero, but I don't give the tires an easy life either. Mostly non motorway use mind. And the front is good for at least one more rear.
