Maybe its time for a change - but to what??
Posted by: Hogi - 06-08-13, 12:04 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (58)

As thread says, I've been a happy Fazer FZS1000 owner for 5 years, put 20,000 miles on her all round N-E and Scotland. The good bits - she's quick enough, fast enough (there's a difference) and stage 1 Ivanised. She tours and scratches, I get over 200 miles to a tank, all day comfortable for me anyway, takes panniers and soft baggage no problem.  She has heated grips, double bubble, pazzo's and is sooo reliable. I've made her my own over the years with sensible add ons and nothing extreme.

But we all get a bit bored now and then and am thinking of a change. however I really want to avoid instantly regretting getting rid of the old girl as I could very easily stay with her for a while yet.

I've always had respect for the 1050 engined Speed triple and am lured by the promise of oceans of torque. I used to have a 885 Sprint until the nephew binned it last year, so I have an idea of what triples deliver. I'm assuming the Speed 1050 just gives a lot more! I've even come to prefer the Dame Edna version over the round headlights. But wind protection is a concern as is economy and I would have to aim for a low slung exhaust.

If money were no object I think the Tiger Sport is the straight replacement for the Fazer - but then I'd be looking at more exotic machinery anyway and its a bit tall. I've got a budget of around £6k inc trade in but am in no hurry. I can easily wait until next Feb when the market is flat to do a deal.

I would really appreciate any comments on gains and losses going the 1050 way - especially from someone who moved to/from a FZS1000 from a Speed. Alternatively I often see FZ1's under 10k miles that are £2k cheaper than the 1050, saving dosh and keeping things in the family. In both cases I'm thinking the trade off is poorer range/comfort but sportier and better suspended.

Or do I simply throw better suspension on FZS, a zaust and braided lines and keep the difference? 8)

  Going naked !!!
Posted by: Daved and Confused - 05-08-13, 11:33 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Hello Folks,

Okay, Friday like a twat I dropped my pride and joy - 03 red Fazer.
I bought her as a cat C when she was only 2 months old and using only new or very good used parts built her up.
I was going to claim the insurance but decided I want to keep her as they would write her off.
I have basically broke all the front body work. She runs fine so I want to run her naked until I can pick up the required bits and pieces to put her back to her former glory.
I need some suggestions on how some of you guys have gone about converting your bikes to naked.
I'm not keen on some of the aftermarket headlights and cowls, I'm thinking more of a model that is naked already.
So some suggestions for the obvious which needs done;-
Headlights and bracket
Clock bracket
Indicators
Mirrors

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Dave

I have been thinking on getting a HID kit for my bike, what do you think of this kit on eBay?  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360692360368?s...1423.l2649 or would I be better off going for a 35 watt kit as a 55 watt kit may be overkill?

  Lockable Sat Nav mounts?
Posted by: richfzs - 05-08-13, 08:57 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Who makes 'em?

Touratech, for one, any others?

I need to get a sat nav sorted for my Blood Bike group, the bike will regularly be left outside hospitals etc, and since a) it isn't owned by the rider, and b) they'll often be on an urgent delivery, be very easy to leave the sat nav behind. So we want (need) it to be in a lockable cradle, to stop at least casual walk by thefts.

Any info / experiences much appreciated!

Richard

  First aid courses
Posted by: Punkstig - 05-08-13, 05:27 PM - Forum: General - Replies (12)

Anyone done one, anyone been involved in organising one before?
The last time I did any first aid training was 20 years ago in the scouts so I'm very doubtful on any of it.

So, the reason I'm asking- on way into town this morning I saw the aftermath of a cyclist vs a truck, I was only about 10 cars (20 seconds) behind the initial incident, people were stopping I assume to help, as I went past it was apparent it was bad, I was hoping the cyclist was just unconscious as he was laying face down not moving, whatever helmet he was wearing was obliterated and only the straps remained.
I didn't stop because I didn't want to get in the way of anyone that may have known what they was doing.

It transpires that he was dead at the scene, papers are stating due to heart attack of a 40 year old male, I can only think that the head injuries would have contributed to it.
Now its one thing to think about Vinny jones pumping on a chest to 'Stayin alive' and another to have any proper training!

So- any ideas, and anyone interested in doing one (Lofo's?)

  FZ1-S side stand
Posted by: locksmith - 05-08-13, 05:19 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Quick question about my side stand.
Noticed yesterday that there is a bit of flex/movement at the top of the stand where the bolt is that holds it on.
The bolt isn't noticeably loose.
Is that how's it meant to be or does it need tightening?

  Jumping to neutral
Posted by: ajmes1 - 05-08-13, 04:59 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (15)

Went for a bimble to brid at the weekend, and started to notice that (particularly) going from 2nd to 1st it tends to 'jump' into neutral. Not a big issue but a bit annoying! It sometimes does it going up the gears too.

Just wondered if it was ought to be concerned for?!

Oxford panniers for sale - now sold
Posted by: ajmes1 - 05-08-13, 04:46 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (4)

Due to lack of use, my panniers are up for grabs. A couple of marks but nothing drastic.

I think they're around 40l, it's the soverign range if that helps. Certainly expandable and more than enough space for a trip.

All traps are there, it's just missing a waterproof cover which has gone for a walk. If it turns up ill send the little bas***d in the right direction.

No burn marks, blue, good condition. Ideally looking for £40 to recoup some money on the Scott oiler I just got.

Located near selby, n.yorks. Any questions ask away!
