I find my logbook is missing, I find out that you can get a temporary one from dvla, then my battery decides to call it a day, on Sunday of all days, did a ride to Thorpe park on Monday and battery was US so had to bump start it, and it was the same when I got back. I had the corbin seat on and I found it was uncomfortable if you sat where your ass should be as the footpegs and handlebars were now in the wrong place, I would have been doubled up before I got to dover so no biking holiday for me this year.

Micron End Can and Link Pipe FOR SALE
Posted by: scottyboy2203 - 13-08-13, 05:17 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (12)

Micron stainless steel end can and link pipe for FZS600. Few scuffs but in good condition. Pics show scuff on the rear of the can (unseen when on the bike), and a scuff on the back of the can (near the exit) which should buff out but isn't too obvious. Both the link pipe and strap are inc. Looking for £70+pp (no more than £10).

  Moment of madness???

I'm stupidly thinking of chopping in the fz1 for a KTM. Either a superduke, or a 950sm.
I know they're bonkers, but has anyone on here owned/ridden one of them and compared it to the fz?

  Starting/electrical problem. Solved!
Posted by: mr self destruct - 13-08-13, 03:36 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (12)

I got back from my holiday Sunday to find the bike dead as a Dodo, so charged up the battery and tested it. Fully charged it was reading 12.8v.

However, I connected it up and ran my multimeter from the earth strap to the -ve terminal, and without even the key in the ignition found 12v flowing.

Fired the engine up first time and it ran a treat, then tried starting it yesterday, and the starter barely spun. Flat as a pancake again, so the evidence pointing to a short somewhere draining the battery.

I put it back on charge this morning, got 12.8v, reconnected it, fired up the bike fine.

Tested the volts at tickover, got 13, took it up to 5,000rpm, got 14.3, which points to it charging ok.

Switched off, put my helmet and gloves on, tried to start it, nothing again! The starter barely moved, the ignition lights faded out, then the starter solenoid did that clicky thing when you have a flat battery. All the signs pointed towards a flat battery again, turning the ignition on but when I tested it it read 12.8 volts! I stuck it on charge again and the charger switched off after 2 minutes because the battery was full of juice.

So what could be causing this? If it's a seized starter motor (I've had that before on my Virago) then the ignition lights would come on bright until I hit the button, but they don't.
It's all the classic signs of a flat battery, without the flat battery.
Could it be the regulator or rectifier? If it was then the voltage between 1500-5000prm wouldn't be stable at 14.3v would it?
Immobiliser maybe, but when they go a bollock they cut everything off?

Any thoughts?

  Quiet exhausts
Posted by: Fuzzy - 13-08-13, 02:48 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (13)

I have a full ss system from Motad including the end can, about 3 years old. Went to a trackday and it registered 103db, the track limit was 105db, whilst my mate on a 09 ZX-10 with an Akrapovic can only registered 93db. His bike sounded lovely, nice growl to it, nicer than standard but not offensive.

Mine's probably become a little louder with time but it was never a particularly quiet can in the first place and was wondering if anybody could recomend an aftermarket can that isn't too loud? Would still prefer that to going back to the heavy old standard pipe.

  Cam Chain Tensioner Reset/Replacement?
Posted by: Timbollew - 13-08-13, 02:33 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (24)

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum had a look around a few times but just signed up for the first time.

I have FZS 600 '99, she's done about 32000 miles. I passed my big bike test about 2 weeks ago and loving the Fazer, just looking to look after her with some maintenance and hopefully she'll look after me.

My question is about the cam chain tensioner, from looking around I think I have a "sticky" tensioner as I'm getting a ticking noise from the engine. I'm thinking of taking a look at it this weekend but wondering how difficult is it to reset/replace the tensioner. I'm fairly competent when it comes to mechanics, no problem changing brake pads, adjusting chain, etc.

I have a Haynes manual which, I havn't checked yet for the tensioner but just hoping someone may have some little tips they want to pass on, I'd be more than grateful.

Cheers,

Tom  Big Grin

  Slight Oil Leak
Posted by: Liroka - 13-08-13, 02:15 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (2)

While tinkering with the bike at the weekend I noticed a slight oil leak coming from the r/h side and seeing as I'm doing an oil change this weekend I've bought a new gasket to fit. Question is, would it also be advisable to use something along the lines of hylomar when I fit the new gasket?

Picture shows where the leak is:
