As you can see, red, full fairings, stainless can, really good nick for a T reg. 24k miles. Cracking little bike, makes a nice rorty sound too. Chain, tyres etc are pretty good, and i'll put a full 12 months MOT on it. Tax runs out at the end of August, but i'll put 6 months on it if a foccer buys it.

£1300 to foccers, although i need to shift it quick or it goes on ebay.

  Blue side lights, legal? Discuss...
Posted by: JZS 600 - 18-08-13, 12:04 PM - Forum: General - Replies (23)

So, doing a POWDER check yesterday (and it's not even MOT time yet!) I noticed that one of my side lights is out and I decided that it's time to replace both of them. I saw another BLUE (in other words, fast) Fazer 600 with these little blue side lights that looked rather good, really.

A couple of things,,, are they strictly legal and where do you get them. Looked at the Yam manual and they're not that clear on the type of lamp quoting: Auxiliary light 12 V, 5 W × 2

SO, before shelling out when I know where to get them from, what's the opinion on the legality here, bearing in mind I ride into central London every day and it's filthy with plod.

  Battery issues
Posted by: pencils - 18-08-13, 11:22 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (31)

Hi guys,

First post on this forum, so I should probably say hello too! I am riding an '05 FZ1 that I got last year. Did a longish trip out to Bosnia and back but have really not had much bike time this year.

When I got it the bike was on its original battery (I think), and earlier this year just before summer the battery was pretty dead. I tried charging it with my optimate, but it was not having any of it. So I replaced the battery with a new MotoBatt (MBTX9U) and all seemed fine, it started first time and I went for a short ride. Now I left the bike for some time (a couple of months) and when I tried to start it that battery was dead too, so I charged it overnight but in the morning it did not start.

To cut a long story short, I wheeled the bike into the shed, plugged in the optimate and forgot about it for another month or so... tried starting it again yesterday but not much joy initially. After a bit of a charge it did start last night, and I let it run a bit and tried starting it a few times and it was ok. I then left it overnight without being charged as I wanted to see how it would last overnight. This morning it will not start again.

Symptoms are as follows:

 • the optimate shows it full charged, with no current being added
 • I have verified this with a multimeter
 • when I try and crank it the voltage just dies completely, as though it cannot supply enough current
 • this lack of voltage causes the electronics to shut down which obviously does not aid the sparking at all! :b
 • there is strange clicking from the tail, like a relay rapidly opening and closing (this may be from the alarm, I am not sure)
So, now I don't really know what to do. The battery should be fine as its only a couple of months old and has been on the optimate pretty much half of that time.

I want to go on a trip to Belgium this coming weekend, and the last thing I need is a dodgy battery for the trip.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what could be the problem? One thing I should probably mention is that my battery is installed flipped on its side, this was the only way I could get it to fit in the space under the seat. Is this correct?

cheers
N

  Any deals on tyres?
Posted by: Craiginuk - 17-08-13, 11:50 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (3)

Hi all, have just picked up a 99 fazer 600 in nice condition.  I've put a messgae up in the welcome forum.. One thing the bike needs is a set of tyres.  Has anyone found any good deals lately? Saw some avons and maxxis on ebay as sets but wonder what tyres are popular. Just general a an b road blasts so don't need anything too high performance. Thanks
Craig

  Back in the Fazer fold!
Posted by: Craiginuk - 17-08-13, 11:33 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (2)

Hi all, picked up a 99 fazer 600 in really nice condition. I had 2001 model a few years back and sold it to buy a fireblade. Found the blade a bit much if I am honest. Sold it and bought an old car as my toy. 2 years later with bike no claims about to expire I thought I'd buy a frame and v5 to insure and stick in the garage. One thing led to another and I have ended up with a silver one owner bike in great condition. it's am import and has done 42000 km. really nice codition. Just a bit of a stutter from about 1k which clears out at about 1.5k.

Really chuffed to have one again as I think the carbed fazer is the perfect bike or me. So hello again!
