I've got a suggestion for the forum-the i've just binned another fazer section...poor fazers!..do they really deserve such abuse?.....no...but like many recent foccers ive decided to try out the whole crashing thing :rolleyes ,except i broke pretty much most of the rules i usually stick to.. & learned the hard way! :'(
The bikes been in the garage for 2 weeks supposedly getting the swingarm bearings done, bit of a wait & i finally picked it up today after it sat outside for days because they couldnt be bothered phoning me.
Totally focced after 4 hours kip from nightshift my mate says he'll take me to the garage & he's outside waiting so I quickly grab my helmet, gloves & jacket.
I get the bike & im almost all of the 3 miles home when i decide that the brakes are a bit dodgy & guess its prob due to being sat at the garage, anyway they still arent warmed up so i stupidly ride straight passed my house & continue through the village to give the bike more of a run & test things out.
I get stuck behind a woman in a 4x4 honda crv who keeps slamming on the brakes for everything but im trying to be relaxed & find my feet so I choose to stay behind her.im not far enough behind her though.
She slams on because a car is parked outside the post office, even though the road is clear on the other side....i stall..what a twat i am!..i get it started again but soon catch her up,its now a 40 mph limit going outta the village.her driving is still a bit up & down so i decide that i need to get passed her asap,we come to a corner that i know is followed by a straight, both go around it,theres no oncoming traffic....but theres a guy on a push bike on the left, tight in, no problem.i expect the 4x4 to just go passed him..we both pick up speed...then bam she slams on the brakes again, i make the stupid split second decision to pass them both, i go well wide & im almost in line with the car & it swerves out,not only a enough to pass the bike but taking up the whole opposite lane.
So im then looking at crv boot with nowhere to go, i roll off quickly, not good enough, pull the front brake, not good enough...pull it a bit more, front locks up,down i go at a mere 40 mph, scrape along the floor & end up in the ditch.
Im ok, broken pinkie finger,my knee is badly graised, broken toe & im generally in pain& stiff i cant blame the driver because i broke my own rules & thats the end of it regardless of how much of a complete fanny she was.at the end of the day im the bigger fanny & ive learnt the hard way but come off pretty lightly.my bikes pretty focced in my eyes anyway.its in some old guys garden & to be fair it's pretty salvageable from what i remember but ill checkit out tomorrow & come up with a plan.
Early doors but i think ill either buy a cheap fully running fazer & use mine as spares as im sure its gonna cost more trying to get it back on the road in comparison or ill save up for a gen 1 thou.my confidence hasn't been dented & im not traumatised, im just pissed off & getting back on it will cheer me the foc up!
I'm another happy owner of FZS600'02 since 2012 and I read foc-u forum for a year now. Just wanted to say hello
Usually I can be seen around Aberdeen and shire on my silver Fazer.
They were dented in my first weeks of owning the bike (bloody pothole, hit a bit fast). The dents have not affected the bike (they've covered 8,000 miles and 4 channel crossings without problems), but are too severe to pass an MOT. The wheels are in good nick, bar the dents (left side, both front and rear). The legal limit is that the dent be 2mm wider than the natural rim, the front (the worse of the two) is 3.5mm.
Does anyone have a spare pair of wheels I could part exchange for mine? I reckon they are repairable, but as the MOT runs out in 10 days, I have neither the time, nor the money, nor the local knowledge to get them sorted myself. Can anyone help me? I'm currently in Andover.
As my tyres are nearly new, I'm just after the rims/metal bit.
I have an 02 gen1 fazer and the non standard exhaust is a bit scruffy, I have been offered an exhaust from a similar year vintage R6,
my question to the wise and knowing is will it fit ? Many thanks
My name is Pantelis and I recently picked up a used 2004 Fazer as per the attached picture. I am not new to motorcycles having done 40K km's on my other bike, a 2009 CBR600RR but after those 40K I needed something more usable as an everyday bike and for trips with other fellow bikers. As you can from the picture the bike came complete with a GIVI top case making it ideal for what I need. I am also not new to Yamaha ownership as my first ever bike (many moons ago) was an 80cc Yamaha YSR80 that I still own. The CBR is not going anywhere either since we now have a race track in the island as well as some nice mountains roads and it will be used for track days and non relaxing mountain blasts.
The Fazer I got has 28K km's on the clock, came with the afore mentioned Givi top case, Rizoma grips and after market levers (of dubious origin as I never heard of the brand); she also has the twin headlight mod so both beams are on full time, has had a recent service, brand new Metzeler M3 front and rear tyres, a new battery, serviced front forks and new chain and sprockets. All in all for the 3.3K euro I think it was a descent deal. Everything works on the bike in terms of electrics and after a week of ownership and around 700Km's she has not missed a beat. She is missing the Red Key :o so I made a spare key and also saved the code with a trusted shop that copies keys so even if I loose both keys I can get another one sorted. I need a new rear passenger grab rail as the one one the bike seems to have met with something harder than itself at some point and I have ordered a set of Osram nightbreaker plus bulbs as the stock headlight/bulb combination is scary on dark mountain roads as I found out when I first ventured out with the Fazer.
So far it has been used for day to day city driving, a highway trip and some mountain riding and I have to say I am loving the relaxed driving position and overall comfort (compared to my CBR always). It could do with a bit more torque for mountain riding as keeping up with my friends Multistrada 1200S and BMW R1200R means working the engine a bit but again, compared to the CBR it feels like a luxury grand tourer :lol
My cage is an 07 Saab 9-3 convertible and that completes the family.
I am looking forward to exchanging useful information with the rest of Fazer family! Ride safe everyone!
hi all
after my crash i have been doing some serious thinking about whether to get another bike or not.
i was very lucky in my accident not to break or seriously damage anything (except the bike which will be written off) :'( .
when i first got my bike i was single, but now i have a girlfriend with 2 children and i saw how much my "off" affected her (and to some degree it still is).
as such, i don't think i could put her through something similar (or worse) so it is with a heavy heart that my leathers will be hung up, at least for a while.
ride safe all.
