  Top end loss of power
Posted by: maniaka - 29-11-13, 12:27 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (16)

Hello fello Foccers

I'm very lucky to have the privilege of knowing someone who own an old run way strip, so I often get the pleasure of experiencing all 95hp of the fazer

However the past few weeks the bike has struggled to get over 110 / 115. It seems to run out of steam (when I know it could easily hit 135)

The bike runs absolutly fine up to around 95 - 100, with no bogs, or hints of troubles. I havn't noticed any specific lack of power but there could well be without realising it. I ride the bike very mild manored 95% of the time and just like doing some fast runs on the airfield/track when I can.

It doesn't suddenly bog down or cut out, there doesn't seem to be a lack of revs .. i.e ... its not like it doesn;t go over 8000rm or something, they still appear to rise.

Could anyone suggest any points to look at ? So far i've only had the time to check the plugs and spins the wheels to make sure theres no binding or bearing troubles.

the bike: 2003 FZS 600, 26,500 miles on it (its still due the 24000 mile valve clearance check :/ )
Its had new air filter very recently, sprocket and chain appear fine, probably around 1/2 - 3/4 of its life span (still stock). Tyres are corrcet pressures etc. I wonder could it be clutch slippage ?

and in case you foccers hadn't seen enough fazers, heres the bike in question

Meet Baron ... yes ... the red Baron Wink

  legal advise
Posted by: esetest - 28-11-13, 07:12 PM - Forum: General - Replies (14)

I bought a car from Bob Davies car sales of Ebbw Vale in mid august , one of my conditions of purchase was the car had a new Mot and a service with a stamp in the book , a couple of days ago the car started making a grinding noise when I applied the brakes , I have taken it to Bathwick today and the rear disc is fucked due to the pad being worn to the metal , I have done 3000 miles since I purchased the car , the mechanic said the pad  must have been  below the legal limit when the car was sold , so therefore how could it have passed the MOT .
So  would it be worth my while putting a claim against the garage that sold the car , or just putting it down to experience .

  Clutch Adjustment
Posted by: adeejaysdelight - 28-11-13, 06:33 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (18)

I replaced the clutch friction plates on my FZS 600 Boxeye and am having trouble getting the bloody thing to work. I fitted a set of EBC heavy duty springs, but did not like the feel, so I re-fitted the original springs. The plates were replaced also with EBC heavy duty ones and the clutch was assembled as it was dismantled, same number of plates in the same order. Everything is torqued up to the correct settings and I replaced the cable too. I had a look at everything working before I replaced the clutch cover and it seems to be operating as it should. Pull lever in, pressure plate moves out... Ok then.

When I start the bike and pop it into first gear, it stalls with a little lurch forward (only little as the front brake is applied). I have would the adjuster at the lever all the way IN (which gives the maximum amount of slack, right?), and adjusted the screw down at the sprocket cover to Haynes recommendations (tighten until you feel resistance, then back a quarter turn). I have also tried unwinding the screw full, which makes the lever redundant (slack), and screwing it up beyond "feel resistance", which makes the lever VERY tight. The outcome is the same - bike stalls.

I am at the end of my tether and feel like I might have to go to a bike mechanic. I have never ever had to do this before. If there is anything else I can try before it comes to that, I will.

Any ideas foccers?

  Rear shock refurb
Posted by: darrsi - 28-11-13, 04:26 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (24)

I'm pretty damn sure that i need either a new rear shock or a refurbished one.
Question is, are they okay being refurbished, bearing in mind i primarily use it just for commuting to and from work, which isn't far away either?
And if so can anyone recommend where to have it done?

I haven't got time to ponce about modding stuff, or to have the bike off the road for a week as i need it, especially when i'm on call for work at weekends.
One idea was to just buy a 2nd hand one off Flebay then send it off so i can still use the bike while it's being sorted out, then sell my one, as it'll still work out at least half the price of a new one.

Any thoughts appreciated?
