  Insurance claim - confused
Posted by: HarryHornby - 19-12-13, 10:09 PM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

Hi all,

I had an accident at the end of August where I was changing lanes up detling hill in Kent and went into tthe back of a BMW after everyone in front achored up to a stop.

I had a had 1 pint before hand but passed the breath test, although it was apparently close (this was a lesson into how much beer you can have before driving/riding (yes I know it should be none, before any of you get on your high horse).

Anyway...I've had a payout on my bike.

Today I get a letter from the insurers to say that the 3rd party want to take this to court and any correspondence I receive should be sent to my insurers.

What the hell????  5 or six cars anchored up on a dual carriage way that as I was looking into my manouvere was moving just fine, I was at the top of a hill (dual carriageway), changing lanes, looking behind, finding a gap, life saver,  changed lanes, everything that had just passed me was suddenly stopped.  The guys in the cars infornt said they didn't know why the all anchored up or indeed how they avoided eachother, I was just unlucky.

Why on earth does the thrid party want to go to court, surely I went in the back of the BMW as a result of the cars coming to a standstill on a perfectly good and clear dual carriageway, end of story.  The slow lane was still moving when I went over my handlebars and landed in the slow lane, and was luckily avoided!

Advice please....rather scared, although not sure why, but the mention of court for someone who's never been in trouble with the law is worrying!

  Heated Grips and Tape
Posted by: JoeRock - 19-12-13, 07:04 PM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

Hey guys,

Sure it was on here that I read about it, but I can't seem to find it in the search box!

My Oxford hot grips, although hot, have always noticably been hotter on the throttle side, which I thought was just part and parcel of the heated grips. Seem to remember someone saying though that the cause was the non-throttle side being on the bare bar, which conducts the heat away a lot faster than the plastic throttle grip, meaning that side gets holder. He then went on to say that he overcame this by sticking some kind of tape on the bar before putting the grips on? Does anyone have any idea what I'm on about? I think I remember it bheing called "insulation tape", is this some kind of heat specific one, or is it like electrical insulation tape (or are they the same?)

Cheers!

(I've had enough of a slightly cool left hand and a slightly too hot right hand on max settings, so if I can get the l;eft up I can have the grips on 75% and be perfectly happy!)

Lights - A question -but not about a mod
Posted by: HJFazer - 19-12-13, 06:58 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (13)

Hi,

So i had an accident in June. Since then I've had a replacement fairing and other parts fitted, pretty happy with the bike... except when i ride at night. Now i know the Fazer lights are useless, however what seems to have happened (I am assuming in the crash) is that the cone over the main beam has broken from its fitting. The guys who did the work just used some wire to hold it in its place, however when riding it a about a month ago at night on unlit roads i noticed that it is pretty much way over to the bottom left. Not a lot of use!

I'm looking at buying a new light unit and fitting it. I am assuming i'll have to take the whole front fairing off to do so? right?

Also, I saw a thread where some people had said not to worry about the cone at all. Is that correct? could i get a way with just taking it out? What are the odds on it passing an MOT like that?

I feel a bit bad just coming on and asking questions, though to be fair as a Noob i'd struggle to give advice.

Any help would be great,

Also Merry Chrismas to all you Foccers  Smile

Dropped my dog, Burt, off at the vets this morning to get a lump removed from his head. They found another on his throat, so that's gone too now. Picked him up at four, a bit unsteady still from the stuff they used to knock him out for the op. Should be a coupla days then I get the results of the biopsies on the lumps. Whatever the result I'm just glad to have him home tonight in the warm with me. If the results come back good, it'll be the best Christmas present I've ever had. His nickname at the moment is " frankendog"...

Hello fellow foccers.

I bought my 2002 fzs 600 a few months ago. It's my first big bike, and i'm loving it. I am planning investing my hard earned wisely over the festive period, mainly on beer and strong spirits! If I manage to make my investments without breaking the bank, I''ll be in the market for a tank-bag and protector. Preferably the protector would be in R1 blue, if not in black. Any foccer know of any for sale?

My Ivan's kit turned up yesterday, a Christmas pressy for my bike, and I have found the keys which my missus lost, so a big service, fix carburation fault and fit Ivan's kit.
