Poor old bugger... - ogri48 - 19-12-13

Dropped my dog, Burt, off at the vets this morning to get a lump removed from his head. They found another on his throat, so that's gone too now. Picked him up at four, a bit unsteady still from the stuff they used to knock him out for the op. Should be a coupla days then I get the results of the biopsies on the lumps. Whatever the result I'm just glad to have him home tonight in the warm with me. If the results come back good, it'll be the best Christmas present I've ever had. His nickname at the moment is " frankendog"...

He looks like a bit of a bruiser ! I'm sure he will be fine.

Poor old Burt Ogri, hope he gets some good results geezer.

We lost 1 of our terriers recently, only 4 years old, the lump was inside his jaw & gone beyond surgery, totally heartbreaking.

On plus side for me my missus is a vet nurse so i always get the most detail & information & the vets dont beat about the bush with their honesty to us.

She tells me that they cut out the lumps but also some surrounding tissue which they call the margin, if the cancer has also spread to the margin it isnt good news but if the margin is clear its a good indicator that they got it all.sometimes it depends how quickly after noticing that the lumps are cut out, in our case we were too late.

Fingers crossed mate, dogs are pretty hardy when it comes to this type of thing, & the vets wouldnt cut them out if there wasnt a good chance regardless of people thinking they do stuff just for the money.

Obviously plenty of treats required.

Cheers blokes, much appreciated. He's a 5 year old lab, (rescue dog, I got him two years back) so he's strong, young and healthy, he will be ok. I unashamedly love him more than life itself  Smile
Thanks again guys
That cuddly toy is his best mate, badger. Apparently he hung on to him as they knocked him out and it was the first thing he looked for when he came round ( I left my coat and his favourite toy with him...) Wink

Re: Poor old bugger... - ogri48 - 21-12-13

He was loads better today guys, check up at the vets tomorrow afternoon but he's defiinately on the mend.
A love of bikes and a love of dogs seems to go hand in hand, I've noticed before a lot of bikers have dogs and think a lot of them  Smile

What is it with anamils, a lot of folk do not like cats, hardest call I ever had to make in my life a few yeas ago now mind, Rosie who became our cat turned up on our door step on a cold and wet winters night, starving to death and not a bit of fur on her. We had her for 15 years and she was well loved, 3 settees she destroyed but ah well! the day she could not eat or walk was pure heart break. Down to the vets for the final visit, I am a 20 stone hairy arsed biker for fecks sake, stood there crying my eyes out as she went to sleep.
Have never had another pet since.
Hope it is your dog is with you for years to come, good on you for the rescue dog thing as well , rescued animals always make the best pets, it is as if they know you saved them.
