Car Tyres
Posted by: adeejaysdelight - 05-01-14, 09:13 PM - Forum: General - Replies (31)

Hi Guys,

I am in need of 2 new front tyres, and as these things go, I got a nasty puncture on a rear tyre yesterday which can not be repaired. So I will just buy a set of 4.

The problem is, I have a bunch of stuff to shell out on this month and next. I need to do the front brakes on the car. It is also overdue a service, which I will also do. My 125 is due a service (not to expensive). I have a few bits to finish on the Fazer and I just bought a Thunderace before Christmas, which I was planning on doing up. Also, we booked a holiday the day before the puncture and fly out at the start of March, so I need to save a bit for that.

Anyway, my point is, I use Pirelli tyres on the car usually. Have done for 15 years and they work for me and my driving style, even when I had the rear wheel drive Mx5.

This time I am going to have to buy budget tyres and am unsure where to spend the money. I will have to order this week as the fronts are under 1.6mm (although it is still biking weather most days). I had a look at these - http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-details/sai...l#48498309. There seems to be mixed reviews. I don't like the idea of them being from China, but on a budget, do I have a choice? Has anyone used them before, or can you recommend another tyre around this price? +/- a tenner a hoop would be fine. FYI, I drive a SAAB 9-3 AERO Turbo with 210BHP, front wheel drive. I don't drive like a boy-racer, but I do like occasional fun when a boy-racer passes me. Any advice appreciated, and please only first hand experience if possible. Thanks

Neutral not as easy to find
Posted by: Camshaft - 05-01-14, 07:31 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

Lately finding neutral takes a little more care with correct shifter pressure from 1st or 2nd.
I switched over to Castrol Power 1 10W40 from semi synth Belray 10W40 well over 1000kms ago but the problem has only reared its head about 3-400kms ago.
Its not causing a problem riding the bike more just a change i've noticed and hopefully not an early indicator of something serious.
If anyones has any clues would be appreciated.

Fractured Radius Bone - Would you Scooter It ???
Posted by: Frosties - 05-01-14, 12:43 AM - Forum: General - Replies (24)

Hiya fellas, as per title again.

Went ice skating with the kids yesterday, arse over tit a few times and landed on me left hand more than once in pretty much the same way as if you have an off and stick your hand down. Result - extended fracture of left Radius bone. Had a "back slab" cast fitted this morning and back to fracture clinic next friday for full cast.

Problem - commute 50 miles each way to Canary Wharf & whilst the car is an auto it's also over 200Bhp and will give about 25mpg average + parking charges + congestion. Biking it saves me £800/month, I'm self employed and the cast could be on for 7 weeks from now and then time for hand to get back to life for the clutch operation.

I'm aware that the insurance may not cough if I have an issue but looking at a 250 Burgman for the 2 months - then sell it on.

Anyone been in a similar position ? Can you ride a scooter with a modest left hand grip factor?

Never ridden any scooter so not sure what to expect.

Any advice as always appreciated, even if it's to call me a tw@ for even considering a scooter.

Cheers

Will be looking for a new front tyre for my '02 600, and wondered what the advice of the wise and experienced would be, not just on the front but the rear too.

Planning on doing a fair amount of two up touring, but don't have a huge budget to spend on them!

Oh great voice on the inter web, direct me!

FOR SALE - FZS 600 Standard Exhaust Downpipes REFURBISHED
Posted by: Fizzy Pies - 04-01-14, 03:09 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (4)

These were taken off my bike and were not blowing or rotten.

I have taken them to work, had them lead shot blasted and then painted in several coats of  halfords very high temp black paint.

I've never seen a new set of these before but this set must be pretty close.

I'm asking for £100 inc postage on eBay when I list them tomorrow however to anyone off here they can have them for £80 collected or £90 posted.

  Gearbox Question Grinding Me
Posted by: hightower - 04-01-14, 12:48 PM - Forum: General - Replies (23)

So, as you can guess from my other posts I've been looking at mechanics (the theory side anyway). I understand how the gearbox works, but have a grinding (pun intended) question.

Look at this animation: [Image: sequential-gearbox-animation.gif]

You see when the red and yellow dogs come together, that creates your drive. However, what I can't find the answer to is "what if the red and yellow gears come together when the dogs are inline with each other?"

Surely, rather than engaging gear the dogs will bounce off each other and you'd be in some sort of false neutral?
