Unfortunately it is Sad

Re: Is this for real? - mtread - 04-01-14

And this week proven to be a liar about the miner's strike .........
Signed.

Re: Is this for real? - hightower - 04-01-14

mtread - I was reading that last week. My dad was a miner, last man out of vane tempest (http://www.sunderlandecho.com/history-nostalgia/digging-deep-for-cafe-inspiration-1-5937406), so this sickens me. Surely we can find a better thing to spend this money on?

Re: Is this for real? - slimwilly - 04-01-14

Haha, you cant talk politics on an open forum,,you see, there are at least three sides in all politics,, for, against and don't know..
Miners on here,, they know their thoughts.
Non unionists, self employed, buiseness people, or company owners  know there thoughts too

I saw a write up the other day that said that Margaret Thathcher was the greatest prime minister ever,,, Smile

So don't go starting an argument.

Re: Is this for real? - mtread - 04-01-14

Ah, but what you can't dispute are the facts. Proven to have lied to everybody this week by her own paperwork. Scargill told the truth, Thatcher lied. Only took us 30 years to find out unfortunately.
Perhaps if we had known that at the time, things might have turned out differently.

Re: Is this for real? - nick crisp - 04-01-14

A politician that lied? Shurely shome mishtake..... :rolleyes

I'm sure he did, when he admitted that the strike was a lot less about the miners than it was about him attempting to increase his own standing and power within the labour party!

Just like every other politician under the sun...

Re: Is this for real? - ChristoT - 05-01-14

I can resume this thread in one sentence: All politicians lie, and depending on which side of the fence you stand, Thatcher was either one of the better ones, or one of the worse ones.  :rolleyes :rolleyes Can we go back to bikes?

I think it's a shame that many decent good hard working politicians that we choose to represent us are slurred in such a manner.  All politicians are not liars.

Thatcher and her buddies had a self serving agenda to destroy the working classes, and the miners dispute was simply part of that process.  Thatcher saw the miners, the very people who built Britain and powered her empire as the 'enemy within'.

I truly believe that when most people begin a career in politics, they go into it with nothing but good intentions. I also believe that they are then railroaded by a system that just will not allow them to keep to their principles. Unfortunately too, case after case shows that at the very least, politicians often use PR methods that can, at least, be seen as not telling the whole truth, and at worst, can be shown to be outright lying. You don't have to wait long, or look far to find an example:

I don't.  A lot do.  But the system that you mention, the party system, does what it can to control candidates and the intake.  Increasingly parties are looking for yes men and women.  But then it can also give parties a problem, as activists get pushed aside for the party candidate, well you end up with fewer grass root candidates.  It's a downwards spiral.

More and more we are seeing the career politician.  Not to mention we have a system - first past the post - that has given us the two party system with eventually both parties becoming broadly similar.  A UK general election is not decided across the country, it is decided in key swing constituencies, and frankly though I do, it's not really worth my while voting.

As for the Lib Dems sticking their nose in, and for once making it a three party race, I strongly suspect they will be roundly punsihed for their duplicity.  I suspect getting into bed with the Tories could be something they may regret for decades.

David Cameron, an honest man?  He's scum, absolute utter scum.  What people do need to realise though, is that this is Tory lite, in 2015 you might get the real deal.  And up here in Bonnie Scotland, well folks need to decide if they want governments that actually voted for, or risk yet another Tory administration that they haven't voted for and don't want.  It's certainly going to be an interesting year politically.

Anyway, my politician of the year I think would have to be an English politician, sure he makes the odd mistake, but he's hard working and a fearless stickler for the truth - Tom Watson.  So no, not all politicians are liars.

And let us not forget, this is still a democracy, the people will get the government they deserve.

Re: Is this for real? - slimwilly - 05-01-14

And so they have !!

Re: Is this for real? - chris.biker - 05-01-14

Thank all I guess this is for real.

I am not impressed by our politicians and do not see the need to pay for museums about them. As she was a big fan of privatisation then if there is to be a museum it should be privately funded, maybe if it is expected to be a financial success it could be a museum in two parts on the right-hand side of the road a museum of admiration and support. On the left-hand side of the road a museum of the alternative truth.

I will avoid the block all together.

Re: Is this for real? - dBfazer600 - 06-01-14

Let the Thatcher estate pay for it if its that important to them or get private backing for it and lets see what happens from their onwards.

From what I've read, all the money for it is apparently being raised from private backers, so I guess we will.
