I bought a second hand camera
Posted by: slimwilly - 11-01-14, 09:04 PM - Forum: General - Replies (9)

Yes, so I broke my Samsung pocket camera,2 years old,£80, it did the job but I have seen some amazing pictures on here so I found a six year old camera on Ebay and bought it.Its not a brilliant camera but it is a good one,Leicia lens,Panasonic.
So I will put some of the pics  below, I have messed up so far becausei have used auto mode and scene mode and others then copied them to the computer but I don't know what settings I used, so I will have to log them.

first proper rideout today and the old girl done well
Posted by: fq-craigus - 11-01-14, 08:43 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Well since passing and buying my fzs600 in dec I have used it nearly daily as a commute and general excuse to pop to the supernarket. But today I had my first proper rideout with a friend who passed a week before me. He has an r6.

It was a bit fresh today but sun was out so the roads cleared nicely. Went from boston to peterborough and visited a bike shop in eye and another called wheels in peterborough, had coffee ect mcdonalds, oggled at loads of pretty bikes and headed back.

Bike performed well on her first long run out and also kept the r6 on its toes which I didnt think would happen.

Got home all safe only to get a txt from my pak that someone reversed into his bike knocked it over picked it up and put it on its stand and deove off but caused untold damage, water gushed out from womewhere, broke fairings and headlight, snapped footpeg and bent gear lever and clutch lever. Luckily number pkate and accident was caught on his girlfriends cctv at her salon but needless to say he is gutted

  Family Military Traditions
Posted by: nick crisp - 11-01-14, 08:25 PM - Forum: General - Replies (60)

There have been many rumours of what my step-grandfather did during the last war. He was born a Scot, and worked on the estate of some laird or other before WW2 broke out. His military service is little known by anyone it seems however. Stories of him fighting in the Pacific theatre, and a story about him "accidentally" parachuting (?) alone onto some Japanese-held island, which he then is supposed to have single-handedly "captured". All rumour, and no doubt the reality is somewhat less spectacular. However, it's certainly true that my grandmother threatened to kill him herself when, after the war, he sold all his medals!

So I wondered if anyone else on FOC-U had stories from their elders of the war, and if they ever talked about these things, as so many did not apparently. It is sad to note that there are, of course, fewer and fewer survivors from this terrible conflict around today - what a relief that many chose to tell their tales for books and TV before passing away. Perhaps you even know of your ancestor's exploits in conflicts pre dating WW2?

And on the subject, does anyone know where you would begin if you wished to try to uncover archives that might shed a little more light on what such relatives did? Alas, I don't even know what regiment my step-grandfather served in. All I have is his name, which is a fairly common name and so could easily be confused with others. And I would also like to find out more about other relatives, now passed away, who may or may not have had military roots. My extended family is now small and widespread, and have little knowledge of these things it seems.

  Stick coil mod
Posted by: solorider - 11-01-14, 07:55 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Anyone managed to get stick coils working on there gen 1? I have tried 2 sets of coils the latest being 1.6 ohm each, and my bike will not run on them at all, just a big back fire.

  DRL's
Posted by: dcurzon - 11-01-14, 07:20 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (9)

Fitted my hot grips today, piggy back fuse on the turn signal, 5a fuse in the piggy back plus the inline 5a on the live wire.

Whilst I was at it, I fitted 2 led strips and wired them into the hotgrips power cabling, £2.95 on eBay.  Somewhat overpowered by the headlights but I have some side coverage with the DRL's so more chance of being seen.

All seems to work ok Smile

  Still got a misfire
Posted by: solorider - 11-01-14, 06:40 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

I have stripped the carbs 3 times and checked the coil leads and I still have a slight misfire, which I have narrowed down to cyl 1, my next task I think is have the rocker cover off and check the valve clearences, I would do a compression test but I don't have a 10mm adaptor.
