  siezed rear caliper
Posted by: mobile mouse - 29-05-14, 01:19 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

Hi,
Came to service the brakes this last weekend to find front fine, but back was siezed up.

It looks like this winters salt and brake dust has blocked the bottom of the caliper around the retaining spring and the pads have sat ina bath of water. The salt has then pushed the dust seal out as I can see bits of rubber around each piston.
The good news is they push out under hydraulic presure the bad news is at the moment they don't go back under finger pressure.
I am going to do the full works and remove pistons and clean out all the crud and replace with new seals.
Do I crack in half the caliper is this looks to be the quickest way to clean everythink up, better access inside.
Does our rear caliper have the little rubber O-ring that joins brake fluid gallery between the two pieces of the caliper. Or do we have a gasket!

Cheers,

Daytona Boots Size 8 and 10.5 Sale
Posted by: Soapy - 29-05-14, 12:43 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - No Replies

Saw these on Ebay. They are having a clear out. I have had a set of these for 15+ years and after initial break in have been extremely comfortable and never leaked. They only have a pair of 8's and 10.5 left. They are normally £299.

Apologies to Moderators you might want to move this into the For Sale section.

Back on a Fz1 Fazer and never felt better
Posted by: Rustyz nutzz - 29-05-14, 04:57 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Well I bought a mates bike, a 2007 heavily modded Fz1 fazer , but sadly neglected a little.
Work started on the Header pipes rusty corroded and looking dreadful. ( Road in the winter and left uncleaned till May)

Ended up buying Dek's Full Akrapovic and replacing all the header bolts with new stainless studs , breaking 2 in the process and drilling and tap and die set to finish always hate that job lols.

Dek was kind enough to send the map along with the system.

So a Bank holiday spin out and what a ride, the 170rwbhp R1 I have will be laid up for most of the summer I'm sure of that.
Off to France on Monday next week

the  Akra end can ran well and sounded good , nice deep growl but not offensively loud ... with baffle in it's too quiet and was a tad fluffy on the gas, it had a custom map with baffle out on the dyno so I left it out.

There was no bottom end grunt loss at all as the secondary butterflies were taken out so at 2500rpm she has 10bhp over stock and was 140.9 rwbhp
- that was  with the Akra end can and lars air box mod, graves block off plates  and as said custom mapped and K&N air filter.

Now she has Deks map , or Dukes map perfection with the full Akrapovic in place and dyno showed a 9bhp rise on the dyno and good fuelling air fuel ratio checked running well, now showing 150rwbhp.
But better still It now wheelies off the throttle and the mid range and top end just kept pulling up to 12,000rpm. Smile

I rode 211 miles around Welsh roads on Bank holiday Monday and had a play with a 2008 Hyabusa and left  a 2006 R1 in my wake several times
The Busa guy "Stan" stopped at Newtown cafe Mid Wales and commented on how strong I was pulling away from him. :evil

So mega pleased with Deks full Akra system it's bonkers!!  :lol

But the ride on Monday last was lifting to say the least, in all areas.

It's good to be back and thanks to Devil's Yam aka Luke and Dek for being top foccers.

Great forum.

Ride /stay safe all. Smile

  Cam chain rattle
Posted by: BorisTheThird - 28-05-14, 08:22 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (11)

Hi all!
i know this has been done to death, but wanted to clear some things up. My cam chain is rattling (badly i think, seems more then a ticking), and im getting worried about riding it. (especially after i read this thread about the engine giving up).

Whats likely to be the cause and how do i fix it?

i reset the cam chain tensioner about 6 months ago (though noticed that there were two ball bearings in to make it push more)
the bike is on 60k miles (1998)

any ideas?
