  Bike 'hiccups'?
Posted by: pat74 - 06-06-14, 09:56 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (9)

Hi all,

Since a bout a month my FSZ600 (2000) has started acting up with 'hiccups' It started off with hiccups when accelerating. My dealership overhauled the carburator, put in new spark plugs, changed petrol filter etc. It was gone now when accelerating but it started to show the same problems at constant speed (below 80km/h). It then started combusting in the exhaust from time to time when waiting at a traffic light. I empied the tank for possible water due to leaking seals, emptied the carburator bottom parts so any water was removed and the problem was almost gone. However, after a few days it came back again, same problems but this time when accelerating and at constant speed. I saw a little wear in the the left most inlet from carburator to cylinder (see image) and have fixed that one. Still same problems though...

Does anyone have a clue what might be going on or whether this is a common problem?

  Umbrella scam
Posted by: esetest - 06-06-14, 09:26 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Any other Foccers been caught out by this , started agency work this week and found out it started April , any temporary worker who is not a limited company , is deemed to be Paye and are paid through an umbrella company and classed as an employee of that company , but you have to pay both Employees national insurance and employers national insurance which is about 18% , plus your tax the amount will depend on your tax code , and they stop about 12% of your money as holiday pay , which you can get back every 12 weeks . you can offset some of your tax by claiming mileage which is 45p per mile and claim subsistence if you are away from your home for so many hours a day but you have to keep receipts if you claim the subsistence in case you get investigated . There was a protest march in London about this , and there have been some mass walkouts from larger sites , although I have not read anything in the press about it . So much for the governments pledge to reward the workers , funnily enough it was the Tories who scrapped the SE60 just before they lost the 97 election .
Thankfully I don't do much agency work , but I feel sorry for any poor sods who do .

  gearing
Posted by: woodwizzard - 06-06-14, 08:46 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (15)

Now that its taxed I was able to have a little spin tonight, very different to the old zx10. It seems abit hair trigger on the throttle to me. I thought the gearing may have been changed. Front is 16 and rear is 44, from what I gather that is stock. 60mph in top gear is 4000rpm, seems abit high to me. That would be 80mph on the old zx. Alot of my miles are on the motorway at 80mph+, this will be sitting at close to 6000rpm, surely that can't be right. Ivans kit fitted with K+N and it has loads of go. Does that sound right to you guys and can I gear it more for the motorway?

  O/X ring, dry/wet chain lube
Posted by: Cityman49 - 06-06-14, 08:33 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

I'm going to be replacing the chain & sprockets on my '99 600, what's my best option with regards the chain type/manufacturer. Also, what's the preferred choice of lube, dry or wet? The previous owner neglected her so badly, I've been getting her back up to spec for the last 6 months, wages permitting.

Anyone know anything about auto Vespas?
Posted by: Streetbudgie - 06-06-14, 07:12 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

The missus suddenly expressed an interest in riding rather than pillioning a couple of weeks ago so I booked her a days training with a CBT at the end of the day thinking she'd have fun but probably wouldn't want to ride alone afterwards.

So she loved it and now wants a scooter, I'm not keen on Asian scoots so agreed on a Vespa LX auto.

Anyone got any experience of them and have any tips on buying second hand, what to look out for, known faults etc?

70 years ago today thousands of allied troops left The south coast of England to start the invasion of Normandy. Many met their final resting place on those beaches. Thank you for your sacrifice. We will remember them.

There both shit although the gear change on the handle bar in sport mode is fun for about 3.5 minutes. It's also got a handbrake which is as useful as christo on a powered 2 wheeler :-) the only good thing about it is the storage where the fuel would normally be. If u thinkin bout gettin either of these bike... Then dont.

  Damage to headers
Posted by: dazza - 06-06-14, 03:05 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (11)

So,  went for a little ride today and whilst committed into a corner I ran over what I thought was a bit of road kill. I thought it felt a bit hard but didn't give it a second thought. Until I got home that is and noticed some damage to my headers. My question is,  will this affect the way the bike runs?  I didn't notice any difference but look's a bit unsightly. What do you think Foccers?.
As you can see, something's given them a fair old whack, probably made worse by the headers being so hot
