Hi can anyone confirm that the seat panels for a 2003 are the same as a 2002?

Thanks in advance

Hello all, thought I'd join up as I ride a 2008 FZ1-S, and will look to share my experiences/learn from yours whilst owning this fantastic bike. I will upload pics in due course however stuff I've done so far is reflashed ECU, braided lines front and rear, aftermarket levers, pipercross filter, de-catted mid pipe, modified link pipe to retain exup valve for my Remus hexacone carbon zorst, and sprocket change 16/47. Think thats about it!  Look forward to chatting to fellow Yammie owners!

  thou rear caliper on 600
Posted by: midden - 12-06-14, 03:37 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Does putting a thou caliper on the back of 600 mean you can do sideway skids down the road.
I'm a heavy chap (though some may disagree  Wink ) and i really need to push hard on the pedal for the back end to lock up, so the brake does seem feeble but nevertheless I still mange to come to an abrupt stop when needed.

Surely though this is how Yamaha intended it to be.

It's always been my understanding that most of the braking to stop the bike comes from the front and the rear brake really is only to maintain balance (if that's the right description)
So by fitting a much sharper rear caliper raises the risks of rear wheel lock up and means the rider has to consciously apply less pressure on the rear brake thus cancelling the point of the swap.

  Massive DOH!

Hello all,

Just rode the fazer round some beautiful bends, when I was stopped I noticed the left hand side of the engine was making a very small "ticking". Getting worried I decided to head back home, to be honest I thought it could be the cam chain, however upon me looking I noticed the HT lead was vibrating abit too much, I then looked and saw the spark plug had become loosened so it had a tiny amount of play in it. I did actually remove that spark plug a few days back but I made sure it was hand tight with a small turn with the spark plug socket, it had no play at all? I'm just waiting for the engine to cool down, then I'll tighten it up and hopefully that ticking will vanish......Massive fail moment  :rolleyes

Restarting bike after long (and unplanned) long-term storage
Posted by: rogwy - 12-06-14, 09:12 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Hello

Many years ago I put my bike away one September, with the intention of taking it out a few more times before parking up for over winter. Those last rides never happened (due to other things taking up my weekends), and then I moved house shortly after New Year, leaving the bike in my fathers garage 'while i got settled at the new house'. New house didn't have a garage, and I didn't want to leave the Fazer outside, so it stayed in my fathers garage for a while - during this time I was having a garage of my own built. Every month I would visit my father, and while there start up the Fazer and let it tick over for 10 minutes. I would also move the back wheel a bit to prevent it sitting on the same spot all the time.
The fazer was connected to an optimate charger. The garage is under my fathers house, and his house boiler is in the garage (so it doesn't get cold/damp in there).
After about 6 months of this, I neglected to do the above bike 'checks' (but still visited my father).

We're now several years later, and the bike is still sat in my fathers garage  :rolleyes !!

I realise I have dropped a clanger (good old hindsight), and am here looking for advice on what to do to get the bike going again.

Here's where we're at:
* The optimate appears dead (no lights). Not sure if the fuse has gone, or the bike battery is dead, or what (would the optimate light up at all if the bike battery was dead?)
* The bike appears to have a flat battery (understandable).
* There is some fuel in the tank, but I'm not sure how much (empty/half/full).
* Bike has an alarm/immobiliser. I forget the brand but it is a well known one, and automatically shuts off the movement sensors after a few weeks stood to reduce battery drain.

As it's fathers day this weekend I will be popping round (of course!), so plan to extend my visit and spend some time assessing the Fazer to figure out the next steps.

So...what should I check (and how?).

I'm a hands-on type of chap, but have never done anything on the bike beyond putting fuel in (and checking fluid levels). On the car I can change wheels, brakes, oil filter, etc, so have a bit of an idea, and a small collection of motor tools.
I also have a multimeter (and know how to use that fully, but not where to stick it on the Fazer - I know where the battery is but not where any other electric stuff is on the Fazer).

Thank you for your help (and feel free to roll your eyes at my error in getting in this situation so far!)

Eurotunnel - Does anyone on here work for them?
Posted by: BBROWN1664 - 12-06-14, 09:00 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

I recently booked on there with a van and was told that if I filled the van more than half full (3 cubic meters) I would have to go on the freight service even though the van was full of personal stuff for our place out there.

Seems discriminatory as the reason given was fire safety etc but they allow cars towing box trailers on the passenger service even though those trailers can be bigger than 3 cubic metres.

I have sent an email to them asking why but thought I might get a more sensible (or funnier) answer here.

Hi everyone!

I've been a reader of this forum on and off since around 2004. Changed email address since then, and lost my forum details etc, so starting afresh.

Bike is a 02-reg FZS600 in blue (owned by me from 2004).

Mainly a summer weekend rider, although occasionally used for commuting (mainly when working weekends, as no need to change into shirt etc when I get to work then!)

I look forward to picking your brains, and sharing what (little, but always willing to learn more) I know about bikes with you all.

Cheers

  alternative fuel?

I'm just starting a new job which involves a pay cut so we've had to make a few cut backs. My Mrs suggested I don't ride as much (of course she didn't suggest fucking off her horse!) I'm thinking of getting some spuds and making some moonshine to try or fitting LPG tanks to save cash. Anyone else tried this? Can you fit a gas tank under the seat? Or wound it be better with 2 smaller ones under the fairing infils? Also what percentage alcohol does a foxeye run best on?

FOR SALE- Yamaha Fazer600 s (2000) cracking example
Posted by: Burgess118 - 11-06-14, 09:57 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (5)

Fancy my Yamaha Fazer600? Mine was my first bike.

Bike review = http://www.motorcyclenews.com/mcn/biker ... 1998-2004-

Mine has both standard and Micron end can to choose from.

It just (05/14) passed MOT from a Yamaha dealer with no advisories.

Tax till 31/04/2015.

Very very clean. Reluctant sale due to wedding and new car required for honeymoon travels.

It's sitting at 17000 miles. It's the S model, bigger fuel tank, better sited pillion pegs and two colour pain, made in 2000.

Also just ordered a new K AND N Air filter and Oil filter with four litres of Casterol Magnetec bike engine oil. I can either put these on, or let you take them away if you prefer someone else to do the service work.

I'm looking for £1650. I honestly don't think you'll find a cleaner Fazer600.

Best all rounder I'm told. I live in Diss (South Norfolk. Let me know if you want pictures or to have a look at it for yourself
