Hi all, hope you're all getting back on the road ok. I was out earlier today and had a very unexpected lockup while setting off onto a roundabout, it felt like both sets of brakes snatching on then releasing though I had no tyre skid, it also felt, worryingly, like a transmission lockup and I'd say that would be a more accurate description, the front didn't dive like it would if the front brake suddenly locked on, I was in 1st and only doing maybe 10mph. I was a bit confused, a few miles later, heading home after a visit to a shop, it happened again, this time at about 30mph and was a sudden jerk/shudder, I pulled the clutch and released it, carried on till I could pull over and check the bike, all seemed ok, happened a third time and I limped home at 30, not wanting to go faster and it did the 10 miles home ok. Not long had new tyres, fitted the wheels myself and done this every time I've had rubber fitted over the 10 years I've had the bike, so I know there is no issue there, I double checked anyway. I had the front sproket cover off having previously had the front sproket nut decide that it didn't want to stick around any more and is in some French field near Saint Quentin, no problem there, the upgraded nut is still in place and tight. Chain tension is fine, having not long fitted the rear wheel on (100 miles ago) I put the bike on the centre stand and had it running and in gear, tried 1st, 2nd and 3rd, no problems, some slight rear chain lash, but nothing I wasn't expecting. Any thoughts on this as I am totally stumped, been riding since I was 16, 52 now and not seen anything like this.

Another Carb question! |

Hi all,
Mine is an 05 Ivanised and I have been using it regularly.
I have just done a 36k service and cleaned and stripped the EXUP. I noted that two faces of the EXUP (left half of the engine) were more sooty than the right. My exhaust is also quite sooty too. I have always balanced the carbs so I do not think is it as simple as just a balance. The plugs were not sooty but neither were they that nice grey/brown; more brown. As I did the plugs first, I did not take particular note if two were noteworthy!
I used a infra-red thermometer to measure the exhaust temps but I struggled to get a consistent position to be certain of my results but that also tends to suggest there is a difference in fuelling.
I have always had my suspicions that the bike bike runs a bit a rich and is not as sharp on throttle response as my first Gen 1 after is was Ivanised.
I know for certain my current bike was Ivanised by Mike (Falcon69) - I am hoping he will chip in with a response to this.
Thoughts please ?
Bw
Tim

Carbs? |

Morning, My Fazer has pretty much been in the garage for 12/13 months and started/run maybe two or three times. I got it out yesterday after buying a new battery just to get it running.
Managed to get it started and idling on half choke, but the moment I turn the choke off or give it any throttle at all, it stalls.
My first guess is carb jets? Anything else I should look at?
Also, I'm not 100%, but was 'told' that it was Ivanised, so if I buy new jets, am I ok with standard or do I need different ones? I'd really like to get it back on the road this year, but have limited budget/ time or spannering skills (see suspension thread). Thanks in advance.

Engine brush paint? |

I know about the Simoniz engine aluminium enamel spray paint, but is there any good match brush paint? With the headers off I have removed all the grease with good old gunk and cleaned the front of my engine and it's not too bad as the bike only has 11,000 miles on it. I don't want to remove the engine for obvious reasons. Been told you can use a sponge type brush too good effect by dabbing it on the slightly rough cast finish at the front. Any ideas.

Just giving the bike a clean while it was ticking over and heard arcing so checked the leads/plugs and noticed arcing between the bottom of the caps to the head but the rubbers are a good tight fit over the plugs. All 4 are the same, any info be good as got mot soon. Cheers

Hi Peeps.
Anyone know where to buy Yamalube combustion chamber cleaner from in the UK.
Seems it like rocking horse shit.
Only seems available in the USA, but there's issues sending pressurised canisters via airmail & the dreaded shipping costs & don't lets forget the feckin rip off import duty when it lands in blighty, oh what joy it is to live in the UK.

Sorted: FZ1 front muguard black or red |

So I took the FZ1 out for a spin today and upon arriving at home I realised that the previous owner had done the old "for the disc lock on the front wheel" and snapped of bits of the front mudguard on both sides. Its purely cosmetic with no damage structurely, but if I can replace it, I would like too.
So does anyone one have a front muguard in Black or DRMK (deep-red-metallic-k), it can be off a FZ1-N or FZ1, ABS or non-ABS as the part numbers are for this purpose identical.
I found one on FB.
