Useing the bike through winter, stainless headers?
Posted by: ogri48 - 17-02-17, 10:50 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (20)

I commute Monday Tuesday Wednesday, but home early on Wednesday, so religiously wash/ fs365 the bike along with clean the chain/ relube and clean rear shock and tie rods etc with wd40 every Wednesday afternoon. Every three or four weeks tops I check tyre pressures and take all three calipers off, drop the pads out and clean Pistons anti squeal shims pins etc, coppa grease and back together, along with running all the exup stainless cap heads out and back in again with coppa slip. I also clean the headers up with one of them green pads the missus uses to do saucepans. I'm assuming they are stainless, mine get filthy with all the shit on the roads around here this time if the year( the commute is probably about 200 miles and it's nearly always wet, with salt and mud from tractors thrown in) do you think I should just stick to washing them? They get stains behind the crud that won't come off with soap and water. Breaks me heart to use the bike like this but needs must

I'm not the seller but thought this might interest a few of you. It amazes me how little information people put up about their bike's.  And he can't even get the name right.https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/per...534823212/

"HELP" Spark plug snapped off in head leaving ceramic in situ
Posted by: Gabrael72 - 16-02-17, 08:37 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (21)

Hello fellow foccers, I need to ask your advice!
My beloved 2000 plate fzs has been misfiring of late so I decided to start by swapping out the plugs, the off side inner most would not budge, even after heating up, later spraying with penetrating oil and leaving for a week, and culminating in giving it one last try today and it shearing leaving the bottom half of the ceramic and the metal threaded part still in the head!
My local bike garage has costed me around £600 for engine to be removed, head split (to clear out any left over ceramic) new gaskets and sundries, rebuilt and put back in bike, does anyone know any tips or tricks or do I have to bite the bullet and murder the wife to get my hands on her insurance? ?

Try not to laugh.  Bikes had one headlamp last time I owned one!!  On dipped beam does only one light come on?  Both light up on high beam.

  Exup Cable help
Posted by: Tefer - 16-02-17, 05:34 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - No Replies

Hi,

I had the exup of the bike to clean and get unseized. Decided to get new Slinky cables too, as thats what looked to be on the bike already.

I thought i'd taken a picture to show what one was correct for upper and lower at both Servo and at valve, it would appear not or its missing.

Anyone know? Are the different lengths?

Hi ,just got back from  having  the fazer mot. The tester said  the chain was losse, and it is.The hand book says 45-55mm of play but I am sure some where  on this site I read that it is best to have the chain a bit slacker than the hand book says,  or was this some thing that I have mistaken?

  FZ6 Headset Bearings
Posted by: Grahamm - 16-02-17, 12:37 AM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Pretty much ever since my FZ6 has needed an MOT, I've had Advisories on the Headset Bearings (either loose or notchy).

The next MOT is coming up soon and I'm thinking it might be good to get them seen to (and replaced if needed) but I've heard that it can take around 4 hours and cost a couple of hundred quid or so for labour and given that I'm porbably going to need a new rear tyre as well, that's going to be very expensive Sad

So can anyone confirm if that is how much it's likely to cost and if there's anything else I can do to get them sorted (or, at least, stop it failing the MOT)?
