MRA Screen…
Posted by: Likesbikes - 07-03-23, 04:37 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Hi all, looking to upgrade the screen on my fiancée’s Mk1 600. Before someone helpfully suggests I use the search function I realise there are topics on this already but I have a bit of a more specific question so apologies for that.

In my experience the MRA screens are generally the best choice so I’ve been looking at them. Now there’s the touring screen and the touring screen with the adjustable spoiler thing - she’s around 5’7 so I don’t know if the spoiler thing is necessary or just adding more wind noise unnecessarily? We have an intercom to talk to each other and with the standard screen it’s largely useless over about 60 with the wind noise round her helmet, particularly on the left side where the intercom module thing is mounted. She doesn’t want to have to ‘look through’ the screen to ride.

Does anyone have experience with these screens for a rider at this sort of height.

The other options are ‘double bubble’ type screens but I’ve always felt these are better for racing crouch type riding? She’s not long had her licence and as such more of a sit up/touring style rider.

Any help or suggestions appreciated as I’m looking to get it ordered for her upcoming birthday.

Cheers all, Darren

  FZ1-SA (ABS) for sale - 2007. A must see - completely sorted FZ1
Posted by: Bracechenko v2 - 07-03-23, 12:56 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (2)

Hi guys,

I'm genuinely gutted to be posting my beloved FZ1 for sale but sadly it must go. I've had the bike since 2011 and I've loved and cared for it for my entire ownership. I've used it less and less over the last few years and this year I don't think it'll even come out of the garage due to having such a busy year planned. I'd always said that I'd keep it regardless unless I needed the money for something and there are now a few things that the money could be useful for so keeping this in the garage not being used just isn't sustainable. Besides - this is a bike that needs to be on the road giving someone else some smiles!

So, the bike...it's a Red/Black FZ1-SA which is the ABS model and it's a completely sorted machine in every way. It's in beautiful condition and I've always kept this pristine regardless of cost....she's my leisure bike that's always clean and ridden for fun. I'm posting it here before I post anywhere else to give you Foccers 1st dibs, especially as you'll know the in's and out's of these machines and appreciate that any issues such as fuelling have been addressed when you read these specs.

I'll put a new MOT on it before purchase btw

Here we go then, specs/mods...

 • Mivv titanium can - it's a thing of beauty!
 • Power Commander 3 with custom fuel map (custom map file will be provided)
 • K&N filter
 • Ivan's FCE (Fuel Cutoff Eliminator) - This addresses the well documented early fuelling issues.
 • Ivan's throttle bodies.
 • Uprated springs & shims in front forks.
 • Re-worked rear damper
 • Heated grips
 • Gear indicator display
 • LED Headlights
 • New DID X-Link Chain & Sprockets
 • New Michelin Pilot Road 5 rear tyre (Front needs replacing soonish)
 • New brake pads front and rear
 • Uprated stator flywheel - Preventative measure to replace well documented risk of failure from Yamaha design.
 • vSystem ScottOiler
 • USB Power Outlet
 • Motech Tank bag with lock in system
 • Motech rear panniers
 • Fully integrated alarm system.
 • Spare key including red key from dealer.
The bike is on c.48k miles (will confirm exact mileage shortly) and has never failed an MOT or even had an advisory until the most recent one! The recent advisory was for a 'noisy exhaust' which I should have complained about as it's the same exhaust that's passed for the last 10 years....the only thing changed is the tester at the station...ruined my perfect record!  :wall Big Grin .

I've included a few pics below and I'd let it go to a Foccer for £3,500 NO OFFERS. I know this will sound like sales patter but it really is a bike that needs to be seen...it's in fantastic condition. I'll put more detailed pics up soon, the ones below are just what I found on my phone.

  Coolant leak
Posted by: Zundap - 06-03-23, 04:17 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (1)

Hi, my bike has developed a coolant leak which is coming out of the spark plug drain hole on the left hand side of the cylinder block.
It seems to leak from there once placed on sidestand before start up but soon stops once bike has been running for a few minutes.

Any thoughts anyone?

I see there are 2 large coolant pipes going into cylinder head.....could it be coming from these?
My fear is that its something to do with head gasket?

  Cam chain buzzing noise
Posted by: darrsi - 04-03-23, 11:58 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (27)

Thought I'd ask the question on here about an issue I've had for ages.

Had what sounded to me like a metallic vibration issue going on for a long time, and due to my sensitive hearing it's been sending me nuts.
But I always imagined it to be be radiator protector grill so last week I used a metal glue to reinforce the grill with a thin metal rod across the bottom, but the noise was still there the next day.

So I just went up to my mechanic and he said maybe the camchain was playing a different tune, for whatever reason, but I know that chirpy noise from hearing it on my bike before and it doesn't sound the same. I then suggested maybe the water pump, and he said that was also a possibility too?

After getting home from the bike shop I asked a mate if he could have a listen and see if he could fathom it out, and he did pinpoint the noise coming from the camchain tensioner area.

Just to reiterate, this is not the normal cam chain chirpy noise, this is a high pitched vibrating/buzzing metallic sound that only happens when the bike is warmed up.

Remember, I mainly only do short runs to and from work, so the last time I had cam chain noise it almost took a year to move onto the next notch on the tensioner.
If it is just between clicks then I can just wait and put up with the irritating noise. And the bike itself is running sweet as a nut.

Anyone else had this vibrating noise before, not including the standard cam chain noise?

  Grizzly Adams Seat cover
Posted by: unfazed - 25-02-23, 03:57 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (8)

Finally got the Grizzly Adams seat cover fitted. Have since before Christmas. Took it to a local man who used to work in the Ford Sewing/Upholstery department. Looks great and more comfortable than the original seat cover. Absolutely delighted with it. Very well made. The lad who fitted was really impressed with the workmanship of cover. Take a bow Grizzly
