  Weather protectors for handlebars
Posted by: Nellog - 12-04-17, 06:17 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Hi all,
I'm after a pair of hand protectors that I can fit to my handlebars.

I do a bit of touring on my FZ1 2005 model. Last trip my hands got soaked though from rain  Sad , and I want to avoid that this year. I've been looking for yonks and I can't find any simple weather shields to fit. I don't want to sound a skinflint (but, frankly, the Yamaha ones thorugh my dealer are a rip-off), but there must be a simple system that fits around the brake fluid resevoir and are large enough to provide protection (the so called generic 'motocross' type seem small).
I've found some for the 2009 model - would they fit my bike?
Does anybody on here use them? Any suggestions please.
Many thanks,
Nellog

  Bike tax madness
Posted by: BBROWN1664 - 12-04-17, 06:04 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

My son has decided that as the weather is good, whilst he is visitign me in Sussex, he would get his FZS MOT'd so he can use it this weekend. All good so far. Bike passed the test.

It is SORN so he needs to tax it now before he can have some fun. Trouble is the V5 is in his flat in Plymouth (where nobody else has access) and DVLA wont let him pay for the tax without the reference number from the V5.

I can understand not being able to SORN without a reference number as that may result in someone making your bike illegal without you knowing, but taxing it?? We want to pay them money. I guess it is to stop you typing in A123ABC when you meant to tax A132ABC etc but doesn't help him this weekend.

  WANTED: Givi Monokey Box (large)
Posted by: wtiger46 - 12-04-17, 04:16 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (5)

Hi all,

So I had my topbox nicked off my bike outside work Sad Even more annoying, it had my jump starter, tyre kit, and pump in it!

Don't suppose anyone has a large monokey box going they don't need anymore? Ideally 45L or above, enough to fit two helmets in (although obviously not outside work!).

I'm in London, can pay shipping if needs be.

Thanks in advance.

  Plastidip

I've seen some plastidip spray on eBay and was wondering if anyone has any experience of using them? I was thinking of using it on my forks and swing arm.

Is it time to bring back the Plastic Pig?
Posted by: BBROWN1664 - 12-04-17, 02:44 PM - Forum: General - Replies (26)

Obviously we have too many people getting Motability cars when they should be buying their own but I also accept that for some people we need to provide them with transport.
the plastic pig might be the way to go. Disabled people will get dedicated cars that will help them transport themselves around and maybe one other passenger. Perhaps the plastic pig could be replaced with one of the San Permis cars from France?

Not sure I'm up to this but wondering if anyone has added grease nipples to the swingarm on their thou....If indeed it is appropriate to do so?

Are the branded ones any different? I've always used hiflo on my previous bikes but the fz has a genuine yamaha one on it.
I've had a look and they are double the price of the hi flo, I can't think of a reason why one could be considered more 'premium' than another?

Clutch cable: genuine @£30 or knock off @£7?
Posted by: Arfa - 11-04-17, 07:18 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (15)

Suspect my clutch cable if on the way out. Suddenly gained a lot of free play the other day - like totally flapping about. Tweaked it, clutch bite moved really far out. Tweaked it from the sprocket case cover too, better, but found it needing tweaking again yesterday. hmmm, doesn't bode well.

Last cable was a genuine one, went on June 2015. Shouldn't it last longer than that? I do a lot of town commuting, slow speed stuff, and am pretty lazy about sticking it in neutral whilst at red lights.

Anyways, worth splashing out on another genuine cable at £30 ish, or a cheap knock off from ebay at around £7 odd?
