  Helmet cam mounting
Posted by: mrMoog - 12-05-17, 11:02 AM - Forum: General - Replies (13)

I've seen the thread from last year where it got a bit heated with salad eating etc so thought it best I start a new topic. If there is another topic just like this then I do apologize and would welcome me being linked to it.

I use my bike every day whatever the weather to commute 7 miles each way between Morecambe (live) to Lancaster (work)
So after speaking with the wife we agreed it would be a good idea to get myself a helmet camera. Now I know I am not perfect and I do make mistakes but generally speaking I think I ride safely however if I was in an accident and it wasn't my fault then video footage would hopefully help my case. The camera is nothing special, cost me £20 off ebay and I have a 16gb micro SD card which lasts an hour or so of recording. every couple of days I take the camera off the helmet to recharge and wipe the SD card clean, very simple no inconvenience at all. I do upload to Youtube but it is not to point the finger at crap drivers or to name and shame, I use my ride out footage to accompany my music I create (other hobby) rather than just focusing on me playing my Synths and drum machine, I think it makes more a more pleasant video for the viewer.

Anyway the reason I started this is to ask if any of you have managed to successfully mount a camera onto your helmet without any issues? Is there any mounting kits out there you know of? I have mine attached with gaffer tape and velcro straps, sure it looks a mess but as it's my old lid from when I first started riding a couple of years ago I am not too bothered but I am currently looking into buying a better helmet and wouldn't want it to look like this. To be honest other than the way it look it works an absolute treat Big Grin

  Hello from North Yorkshire

Hi all,

Just bought my a 2001 FZS600 with a different look to it.

Can't wait to get out and ride it.  Few jobs need doing first, it bogs down at about 5,500 revs and clears about 7,000, from looking around it sounds like check airfilter, spark plugs and then carbs.

Tried inserting pictures but it wouldn't work, so heres a link to the pics.

Chain adjuster found snapped and bodged
Posted by: Mustang - 10-05-17, 09:58 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

come to change the rear tyre and a PO has fitted stainless bolts without coppers lip and its snapped on them. So what did they do? Left the stud, put a nut on it then screwed a short bolt in it! You can't adjust the chain!

So I need someone to remove the broken stud for me. As I don't have a welder.

  Battery Voltage
Posted by: JD-LincsUK - 10-05-17, 06:59 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (8)

Having had some issues with finding my battery not able to start the bike after just 7-10 days not being ridden, I decided to do some tests.

I took it off the bike and charged it up with a decent trickle charger. After charging (in the evening) the voltage was 12.47 - in the morning it was 12.31V

I charged it through the day each day for 3 days and every day the voltages were pretty much the same in the evening after unplugging the charger, and in the morning.

I then left it for 3 days and measured the voltage each morning. The voltages were 12.31 then 12.28 and finally 12.26 this morning.

When I put it on the bike, it started without hesitation. I switched it off and restarted several times and each time no problem. I then went for a 20 mile ride, at speed, and measured the voltage - 12.42V

From a voltage point of view, is this okay?

Of course, I will monitor the voltage over the next days to see how much it drops with the bike not being ridden, but if it is not enough (it does seem a little low to me) already, then I might as well just get a new one. This battery is a Motobatt and is 2 years old.

Thanks for any help.

Stopped single policeman in a non traffic car
Posted by: Carlsv8 - 10-05-17, 06:56 PM - Forum: General - Replies (32)

Got stopped today by a non traffic police car, I overtook a P driver on a long straight 30mph road who was doing about 25 mph and she was to be honest appalling, I'd followed her round a roundabout and she virtually right angled it at about 10 mph.As luck would have it there was a police car (non traffic) a bit behind me, cue blue lights followed by 'I could do you for 47mph and careless driving' but he gave me a lecture instead which was fair enough, seemed like a decent bloke, I'm sure I didn't do 47 and it was a safe overtake. Question is can a single, non traffic car policeman do you for speeding or anything else for that matter, I thought if there was no video evidence there had to be 2 witnesses.
Ironically further down the road I was stuck, in a 60 limit, behind the 'P' driver doing about 35mph for about 5 miles along with, you guessed it, the police car.

Rear master cylinders... Do they go wrong?
Posted by: mr self destruct - 10-05-17, 05:07 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (11)

Looks like the old back brake problem has reared it's ugly head again.
Got to work today to find the back wheel really stiff and red hot. The familiar smell of cooked pads hit me too.
Thing is, the old caliper seized, so I did the Thou mod with a caliper I had rebuilt just to be on the safe side (nothing against the lad I bought it off, it just pays to be sure), now that seems seized too.
I'm wondering if it's a master cylinder problem instead? After all, I didn't really check the old 600 caliper over after taking it off, I was just pissed off with it so junked it.

Has anyone got experience with master cylinder problems?

Relay mod for improved original headlight output
Posted by: kgjersda - 09-05-17, 09:18 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - No Replies

I remember reading another thread somewhere that the voltage was too low for the H4 bulb to operate optimally.
So I bought some stuff and got to work. Total 20 quid perhaps.

Full gallery of install available here: http://imgur.com/a/BiB8o

Before and after the mod with same camera exposure. Much larger area and stronger light.
