On my way home from work on Thursday my red beast started playing up, it's getting to about 60mph at about 6/7k and the engine is straining as I'm pulling the throttle and the noise from the exhaust is like that noise when you let go of a balloon. I thought it might be crap or a bit of water in the fuel so I've flushed it through with fuel cleaner and also given the carbs a good blasting with carb cleaning spray, the air filter is clean and there is no pinching to the fuel pipes, I also checked the spark plugs and they look fine but I'm still getting the problem, as I'm no mechanic I'm at the end of any ideas that I think it might be so any help or advice is very much appreciated and needed ??
I was thinking that maybe there is something stuck in the exhaust but then surly if there was wouldn't that noise and straining happen from the start rather than just at higher speeds?
Also something I just noticed today as I was working on it that the rev counter when trying to simulate the issue while on the paddock stand would go a bit crazy just after the straining starts happening so could it be an electrical fault or could that just be due to the engine struggling causing the counter to not be able to read properly and just confusing the system?
If you have seen my "What have you owned" post you will probably have noticed that I've done a bit of racing.
So as with all my bikes suspension is the first thing to get changed, I have already replaced the rear shock with a Nitron NTR R2
which has made a huge difference to corner stability and entry/exit speed and tyre wear but it's never enough is it so today I ordered some replacement Andriani fork cartridges from Omnia Racing
Cant wait for them to arrive.
Once the handling is sorted it'll be getting a reflash or PCV, think the PCV might be better as there's an interface that will allow you to switch between maps and as it's my daily commuter an economy map would be preferable to a full on power map on a daily basis.
If there's such a thing as a how to section on this forum I'll do a write up of the work and maybe even a video, just in case anyone else should want to tackle it.
I'm just about to cross the border from the Netherlands into German to give the old girl a workout on the autobahn.
:-)
What top speed do you reckon I'll get?
Have a guess!
2000 bike, 40,000miles, recent service, K&N filter, scorpion can, 100kg rider, no luggage.
I'll give my speed on the flat, from my speedo and TomTom.
After reading Devilsyam posts regarding the stock CCT's letting go, I've bought a manual one.Is it necessary to get the motor on TDC cylinder 1 before carrying out the change, or disregard this recommendation and just go ahead with the swap using the supplied screwdriver blade/key gadget? Thanks for any replies.
New to the forum but owned fazers for about a year or so now. I live in Guernsey and generally it's a stop start island with a max speed of 35mph (ahem).
No matter how i ride my fazers (I own two), and even if i leave them running on the drive way, neither will ever turn the fan on. One has a digital cluster and the other has the standard cluster, both never really indicate either is that hot either (max 95c on digital), but I would have expected to hear it at some point.
So I live on a little rock and I own two fazers and some other pieces of rubbish i wont show here, names Sam.
Out of my fazers, ones fairly standard (Red), and one is street fighted (yellow & black)...
Generally using the red bike, both were "salvages" so a ways to go!
The red fazer has basically had... new stanchions and seals, brakes restored from pads that had so much rust you could barely tell it was a caliper, kept as standard as possible with a Scorpion end can (currently borrowing from fazer#2). It's also had carbs rebuilt as it was sat for a while, so new gaskets etc, headers were restored (filled, sanded, painted), new hoses and a full service. This is my daily bike.
Bought this one as a "barely running but runner" and it's going well.
Yellow / black fazer as seen in the other picture has had a fair bit more work done to it, and more since that last picture. This was the first fazer i bought, came in parts, built it back and there are some pictures along the way somewhere.
Got to the point with this one where i was thinking hmmm what else can I do, so i think this bikes going to get a full strip and have the frame sprayed along with panels etc.
However, looking for a few parts for this as some of the parts were donated to fazer#1 as i created a "best of both" and thats partly my reason for finding you guys here! I'll use the appropriate forums for that though..
