Hi all... Dan here... BusterDAN (ex-Hornets Nest) and now Dan (Honda CB1000R.COM) for those that know or remember.


Just though I'd pop in and say hi (I've been checking in for 10 years now, despite only actually owning a Fazer for two of those years).  I trust you are all well and congrats for finally dumping EZboard/Yuku..... this is so much better!

My OEM battery for my Gen 1 lasted 5 years. Since then, I've had some (relatively) cheap MF batteries (c. £50) that last for 10 months on average. My most recent one now dies completely unless I've got it on Optimate overnight - particularly if it gets below 10 degrees or so.

Is this issue because:

- after-market cheap batteries give you what you pay for
- my Thatcham System 3 is the knackering batteries?

Is it difficult / expensive to get rid of the alarm system if this is a major drain. And otherwise, should I stop being stingey and just buy an OEM battery. (I did get an OEM one as a first replacement but that one only managed 3 months!)

I'm riding the bike every day for a 15 minute commute - but not using headlights (yes I know!)....

Any comments gratefully received.

right i my fzs 1000 rear caliper came yesterday, does anyone have any images of where the sanded the caliper bracket down ? and could they tell me how long/hard it was to do, to fit onto the fzs 600

Hi I'm gonna need to remove the fuel tank on my FZS 600 soon as I'm going to be fitting heated grips. I've not removed the tank before on my Fazer. However, on my old bike (a CB 500) I just used to pivot the tank upwards a bit when I needed to get underneath until one time I needed to remove it completely. I did this, then placed it upside down (probably a massive mistake and sounds a bit stupid looking back on it!). When I went to put the tank back on fuel started leaking out of one of the two hoses (thinking about it logically now this was probably the drain hose), in fact it wouldn't stop leaking until I siphoned all the fuel out of the tank using the vacuum hose.

As you can imagine I don't particularly want to repeat this episode! So just to clarify, when removing the fuel tank on my Fazer, I'm planning to wait until the fuel light is on and tank is nearly empty. Then turn fuel to off and obviously when I remove the tank to keep it upright as it would be on the bike at all times. My main questions are obviously does this sound OK and is it OK to have a little fuel left in the tank or does it need to be completely drained before removal?

Got a mate who has lat his pads get down to the metal and fucked his discs in the process, so Im after a set of either new or used, pattern or original discs for said bike.

riding home tonight,around 4k revs all the way with HIDS on, i stopped at a junction,put the indicator on and the rev counter and trip meter died,switched the indi off and they were fine again,gave it some beans after that and tried putting the indi on again at another junction and it was fine.

what suggests is knackered ? the batterys about 4 years old now,but still starts on the button

I went to Sittingbourne Speedway track last Sunday for a training day and what a hoot.

The day started at with the usual riders briefing and we were then split into two groups, Novices and track gods. I chose the novice group as I had never riden a speedway bike before and thought that it would end in tears had I had taken to the big 500's straight off. So off I trotted to the small practice track where a Honda 125cc powered machine awaited me. The good bit was it was not my bike. The bad bit... no run-off. What was I letting myself in for. I need not have worried. After four laps I had the bike driffing sideways around track like I was a duck taking to water. The only instruction was that my inside leg position was in the wrong place and it was likely to land me in trouble when I got to the big track. Then the instrucor pointed me in the direction of the big track.

This is what I was aiming for on the big track.



This lad is Jack Kingston who's a British Youth Champion so my aspirations were a bit high to say the least.

So after instruction about starting, stopping and my foot down technique I took to the track.

All geared up and ready to go.



Thinking about my lines and what the instructor had said.

What a hoot. The Jap 500 packs a punch when you let it go and with no brakes comitment into the corner is a must otherwise you very quickly hit the wall. After three laps I was stating to get the drift of things and spinning up. The big grin on my face was taking over the concentration that I needed. OOOOPS! and they say pride cometh before a fall. Down I went in what was a very gracefull lowside. I nearly kept it going and with both hands still holding the bars I attented to set off again but stalled it just as the back wheel touched the ground. First time I'd dropped a bike in eons. Never mind, it's not my bike LOL. For the remainder of the sessions I didn't take it easy but worked more on technique but struggled to get the back out on every turn.

In all a superb day out.

finally succumbed and bought an Ipod - Itunes has converted all but 299 of my wma library.  The 299 have DRM protection - is there any way to bypass this?  I can still play a proportion of these 299 on my old creative player but some were buggered when I copied the music off my old desktop PC made worse by the Creative crashing and needing a hard reset


any ideas?

how can yamaha justify the price of the exup bearing price? it is £41.10 inc vat for what is just a steel tube,luckily there is a motorcycle dealer selling them for £16.35 plus post which i think is still expensive,and why do i need it,both of my bearings are very worn,luckily the replacement exup valve is from a low mileage bike so has little wear on it but the breakers where i got my down pipes from took the bearing out
