First of many many questions about fixing up the winter project
Posted by: Gingernutz - 29-10-11, 07:48 PM - Forum: General - Replies (6)

Well my winter project the Xs400 has arrived and I am very pleased with it - thanks Rich - loads to do but no horrors. Was worried when Peter handed me the centrestand first - had visions of him handing me it if 30 different bits but that was the only bit that had fallen off.
First question is does anyone know or can anyone recommend a sonic cleaning place to get the carbs done?

Foc-u fount of all knowledge - Question about fire grates
Posted by: pointer2null - 29-10-11, 05:16 PM - Forum: General - Replies (11)

Got a little solid fuel stove in the front room. Nice little thing - two settings: meltdown and inferno.

Anyhow, during one of the episodes when is went supernova, the grate that the fuel sits on seems to have a got a touch hotter that perhaps it should and has literally sagged.

I'm not sure if this is cast or wrought iron nor if it can be hit wiv a big hammer until back in shape again.

Anyone know?

Worried that it may shatter/snap if it's the wrong type of iron.

I could put a picture of the problem, but it's currently incandescent so I'll have to wait till it's cool enough to be touched by mere mortals again.

  Front Brake Pads
Posted by: nick - 29-10-11, 04:46 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (3)

Considering i don't use my bike for commuting only a nice ride out now and then what would you recommend as the best Value against performance Pads i should fit.
My discs are ok within Haynes Manual Tolerance as measured with a Caliper.
I will replace the Brake Fluid as i don't know when it was last done and may replace the Seals if they look poor.
Do i really need new Brake lines or should the what look like originals be ok, is there a big improvement or is it just for looks?

  YBR125
Posted by: BBROWN1664 - 29-10-11, 03:07 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

I have a YBR125 that has stood for a few years since the last owner had a car/bike interface issue. I have rebuilt most of it now ready for my son when he turns 17 in just over a months time but I have a problem with the way it runs.

It will start on the button using the choke, and once it warms up (but not before) it will rev OK but it wont idle or start when off of choke.
Using the theory that it was running OK before the previous owner bent a few bits, I suspect that the carb settigns are OK and there would just be crud in the idle jet from where it has been standing. Unfortunately, despite cleaning the jets out with an air line, it still has the problem.

  Sticky clutch...
Posted by: steeeve66 - 29-10-11, 02:58 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

Hi guys,
Quick question: my clutch lever appears to 'stick' when released, not seriously, it just won't release 'evenly' when let out slowly.
The cable is fine, I oiled it again with a light 3in1, and lever is all good, greased the collar and pivot etc.
Could it be something to do with the clutch itself? Maybe the pull lever or pull lever shaft?

Cheers, s

So my time on the FZ1s has come to an end and I have gone for the Kawasaki ZZR1400, nothing wrong with the FZ1 just that I felt cramped on it and feel more at home on a larger bike.  If anyone out there is considering an FZ1 I would highly recommend the bike and urge you to go and get yourself a test ride and see for yourself, it's a great bike and very very capable of holding its own with your R1's, Blades and Gixers being ridden by your average road rider on your average road. The bike is deffinetley a sports bike with raised bars and not a Sport Tourer (my oppinion), I bought the bike thinking it was the natural progression for me as I had an FZS600 and absolutely loved it but the bikes are very different indeed and I found being a big lad that I felt cramped on it.  I am gutted that Yamaha dont do a bike like the ZZR as I love Yamaha, I think they are the best of the Jap bikes both in terms of style and quality but they do not have a bike that suits me. :'(
Anyhoos I looked at the Busa, the ZZR and the K1300s, I was put off the Busa with the styling of it, I know thats shallow but it just didn't do it for me and I tried to like it but couldn't.  I took the K1300s out for a morning (4 hours) and have to say it was a cracking bike and was very hard to fault, it was very smooth and was mega powerfull, I did however think that it was quite cumbersome and felt the handling was not quite as sharp as I thought it would be but I put that down to the fact that my FZ1 was so easy to pull round a bend, I have had the pegs scraping on the ground many times on the FZ and found it really easy to throw it about.  I then found an immaculate used ZZR1400 in Black, well it appears black but when the sun hits the bike it has an awesome metallic blue fleck through i I asked for a test ride and organised it for a couple of days time.  Had it out virtually all day and was gutted handing it back, it was perfect.  Hugely powerfull silky smooth and handled really well for such a large bike and this was on a shot front tyre.  Deal done.
Sorry, I forgot the title of this post...Kawasaki Forum :z
I have no intention of leaving this forum as this is where I cut my teeth on a motorbike and have found the chat and information gathered from here imensely valuable. Most off all though I have met some great people on this forum and have made some good friends who I am sure will be friends of mine for a long time, so to leave here would be unthinkable it's just that I know some of you have had Kwaks and thought you might be able to point me in the right direction fo a source of info regarding mods and tip and stuff.
Also I feel that a wee pole is in order to see if you guys and gals think it's appropriate that I leave my ID as Scotyam now that I am sporting a Kwacker so let me know if you have any suggestions for an ID name change.

Thanks in advance...........
Keep her lit.

  Stupid Firefox
Posted by: Phil TK - 29-10-11, 11:06 AM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

I was dumb enough to download a Mozilla prog the other day and of course it brought along a whole load of crap with it -aka 'Ask' toolbar, Mozilla search engine etc. I've managed to tidy things up but my Firefox browser has aquired the annoying habit of opening an 'Options Window' tab as well as my homepage tab  everytime I launch firefox and everytime I open a new tab another Options Window tab appears.
I've tried going through the 'options' to stop it doing this but can find nothing, any ideas anyone?
I might use IE8 if this keeps up.
