Been Quoted for an engine replacement... Helpp !
Posted by: Kinggy - 23-01-12, 03:52 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (18)

Hi guys, I've been quoted £250 max for an engine replacement that's with me, obviously providing the engine, oil, oil filter and spark plugs.
Does this sound reasonable or shall I carry on looking for cheaper ?

The mechanic says it's an all day job but I was under the understanding (just guessing really) like 5 hours at most if all goes to plan, which at his standard rate of £30 P/H would be around the £150 mark.

Has anyone actually replaced an engine on the fazer and would be able to tell me how many hours labour it took you, Obviously from taking the old one out, Putting replacement in so she runs..

Many thanks in advance Smile

  Air Filters and carb boots
Posted by: macmivvi - 23-01-12, 03:39 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Looking for a filter to install with Ivans Kit and saw Hiflo filters on ebay for approx £20, K&N and Piper £36 and BMC around £40.

Is this Hiflo a High Flow filter or direct replacement for standard ?

I could not find any info on filter regards spec but one link suggested that HiFlo also make K&N filters or it was the other way round.

I,m presuming its a paper version of K&N and not washable ,anyone ?????????

Also having watched my carb rubbers deteriorate the past 3 years just checked depth of one of the cracks @ 3.67mm which was a bit scary, still a couple of mm left but not worth the effort of porting .

Just trying to say that the crazing/cracking of boots is not something to get paranoid about but dont ignore it for too long.

When Mike the ivanator did my full monty two of the inner allen bolts were stuck fast so we decided to leave them for a winter job, just as well because one of the bolts came out in three pieces all done now and replaced with stainless bolts from Ghostrider at the Lincoln BMF show
so that's officially a success 8) We will now move onto the "Justy" AIS removal kit for my next trick

  Proposed EU Regulations on Biking
Posted by: Grahamm - 23-01-12, 02:18 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Despite the protests last year by 40,000 bikers around the country, the EU Commission has gone ahead with a vote for the proposals to pass its First Stage Committee Reading and, not only that, they have adopted new text mandating compulsory ABS for most bikes and the adoption of "Delegated Acts" restricting, for instance, the sale and use of after-market parts.

The thing is, this vote was carried out *before* the results of an Impact Assessment were available and the Delegated Acts have not even been decided on and which won't be decided until after the regulations are adopted!

If you go to http://www.writetothem.com you can send a letter to your MEPs objecting to the majority of the proposals, however there are some good elements, eg that details of bikes' CO2 emissions should be available before sale and that they will over-turn the earlier decision to introduce power limits for motorcycles (1995), on the basis that no evidence can be found of a correlation between safety and power (which rather contradicts the idea from these proposals that tuning or adding after market parts to change a bike's performance is "dangerous"!)

There's more information on the MAG facebook page here along with a suggested form letter which you can send to your MEP.

I recommend everyone take a copy of this and amend it slightly so it's clear it's not simply a "cut and paste" job, then send it to their MEPs.

Quick straw poll - the welfare £26K cap - good or bad?
Posted by: Gingernutz - 23-01-12, 01:02 AM - Forum: General - Replies (103)

I can't believe anyone thinks that theres a problem with capping welfare at the same level as a £35K year salary after tax.
Surely that paying people that much to not  work is the reason so many people won't.
Can anyone tell me I'm wrong and explain?
