  Headlamp replacement on 2004 FZ6

Headlamp replacement on 2004 FZ6 - ignore Mr Haynes  :b

The headlamp bulb blew when I started the bike up at work last night so had to ride home 14 miles with full beam on - sorry cage drivers!

Debated getting standard replacement bulbs from the stealers but decided to pop in to Halfords when I was out anyway - picked up one of these to give it a go.
Being a mechanical dunce I looked at the Haynes manual and it said to take the fairing cowling off. Fk that I thought and got the fat fingers in there - it was a bit fiddly but the plug came off ok, bulb clip was fine to get off and bulb came out no bother - fitting the new one was just a bit fiddly but only took 5 mins - job done without taking the fairing off. The bulb looks pretty good tbh - with full beam on it's about the same light coming out of both sides - will see what it's like in the dark next week when I'm back at work.

So don't always trust the manual!

  Possible over fueling?
Posted by: Fazer Jake - 11-02-12, 05:43 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Since changing my downpipes from OE to sandy spares i've noticed a drop in MPG from 48 to 42? i'm running it with a K&N and a GPR racing can also.

Or could it be due to the extremely cold weather we've had recently?

  Which coolant?
Posted by: Crewpack - 11-02-12, 04:12 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Hi , hope someone can help
My fzs is due for a coolant change , is there a certain type of coolant I should use. I have had a look on the halfords website where they recommend Halfords advance anti-freeze 5litre for £24.99 for the fazer.  My partner rides a cbr600fx (98 registered) could I use the same coolant on both bikes does anybody know?
Many Thanks

Newbie 'old but ain't grey' - Hi from Malvern
Posted by: TrukkoMan - 11-02-12, 12:03 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (3)

Hi There...I'm pleased to join like-minded owners. Had my 2005 Fazer Thou Gen 1 from new and it's a great bike as you all know, and I've had a few over 48 years of riding. And yes! I need help. I want to lower and move forward the rider's footpegs and controls but am having difficulty finding suitable parts. Rearsets to move pegs back and down are no problem (e.g. Rizoma), but that's not going to resolve my knee aggro (from too many years of squash). If anyone has done such a mod, I'd be very grateful to hear about it. I'm in Malvern and it's freeeeeeezing!

  Insurance
Posted by: FuZzBoM - 11-02-12, 10:15 AM - Forum: General - Replies (20)

Hi all, On Thursday i passed my bike test (yay me) I have a 03 plate FZS 600 sitting in the garage waiting for me to ride it.
The question is who would you guys recommend for insurance? I have done the usual internet comparison sites but read some bad reviews on the top 3 or 4 companies.
Tried Carole Nash but they wanted over £600...

Performance direct - £221.29
Grove and Dean - £249.29 (throw in legal and breakdown cover free)
Bikesure - £256.04
Hastings Bike team - £294.62
MCE - £294.80 (throw in legal and breakdown cover free)

I am Looking for a good company not just the cheapest deal.

Rough background i am a 32 year old male, homeowner and the bike is garaged over night. (sounds like a lonely hearts advert lol)

But any advice you can give this noob is very much appreciated.

thanks,

  Won't Start :(
Posted by: Dead Eye - 11-02-12, 01:28 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (13)

Hey guys,

Basically I appear to be having issues with getting my bike to start ('99 FZS 600). It kicks over and has spluttered to life before the revs drop sharply and the engine cuts out. It appears that the cold has had an effect more than anything else but it seems like something else might be going on. Even during the day it takes an attempt or three before it will actually get going and even then I have to hold the revs up whilst the engine warms up before it will idle without stalling.

I've replaced the spark plugs last week, which was a nightmare in itself since whoever had the bike before me rounded off the thread for one of them (so a trip to a local mechanic was needed). The only other work recently is that I replaced the fuel tank this morning. Bike started up fine after id finished and it was snowing then so not exactly warm. I proceeded to go out in the evening (snow and ice had gone thankfully) and it did its usual take a couple of attempts before starting and I rode probably around 7 or 8 miles so im pretty damn sure I havent left the fuel tap off otherwise I never would have made it that far. When I attempted to ride home it just refused to get going as stated above and after a half hour or more ended up having to call on a friend to come pick me up and leave the bike locked up where it is.

Sorry for the essay but figured id give as much info as possible. All help greatly appreciated Smile
