LED handguard lights
Posted by: MightyClown - 26-02-12, 11:45 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (20)

Hello Everyone,

Here are the Acerbis Dual Road hand guards, i've had them for around 18 months now.  They do make a small difference to the wind blast and let you keep using your summer gloves slightly longer.  One advantage is that they do keep some of the rain off when riding (> 30 mph) and that is useful.

Anyway,  Acerbis sell LED lights for them but looking on eBay these LED strips are popular (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-UNDER-CAR-MO...336307dfea) If you search for LED SMD you'll see loads of adverts for these 5m spools of LED strips.  They run on 12V so are fine to wire into the bike.

I had to slightly mod the Acerbis clear plastic strip with the dremel but the LED strip fits a treat.  It's nice and bright and gives the bike a wider look.  You can see from the 4th photo i put some heatshrink on the wires and they provide a neat installation.

The clear plastic on the handguards has a slight blue tint, very slight.  If it was completely clear the lights would be as bright as those LEDs fitted to new cars as daylight running lights.

I have a Fuze Block (www.fuzeblocks.com) fitted (great device, would highly recommend) and as this is a switched live i have the LEDs some on with the ignition.  The LEDs draw milliamps so no power issues occur,  i've also taken out my sidelights (5w each, 10w total) as they were a little redundant with the LEDs in the handguard.

I hope the post is useful to others thinking about this type of thing, or just to highlight these LED strisp which do allow some innovative mods to occur.

  No front brake?
Posted by: Andrew - 26-02-12, 10:15 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (13)

Going to work the other day about 60mph and suddenly the bike started struggling to climb the revs, thought it might have been a fueling issue but then the front wriggled a bit so I pulled off the mway and realised I had no front braking power :eek They were working up to this point as normal and noticed nothing irregular. The lines were changed to Hel braided lines in Jan and new pads were also fitted too. Anyone got any ideas they can throw my way? Had a look over them and saw no leaks or anything so I assume its master cylinder related? Cheers.

  Strange sight today
Posted by: NotAnotherHill - 26-02-12, 08:34 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Just dropped the kids off at the local sports club this morning in Huddersfield. Waiting at the junction to pull out when along came 6 Lambrettas/Vespas with riders in full Mod gear AND in the middle of this 60s timewarp an FZ1 ridden by someone dressed in 'normal' bike gear.

I hope he wasn't going too far with them. 90 miles to Scarborough at 60mph and plenty of stops to let the engines cool down won't be much fun. Still, be good for fuel economy: might even get 200  miles before having to refuel Smile

  new xj 600
Posted by: johnakay - 26-02-12, 08:20 PM - Forum: General - Replies (6)

OK I know its not a Fazer but .......
I quite like the look of these bikes.
has any one ridden one.
I've ridden the old model and I have to say that they were gutless/bland.
but the new model I've read that its capable of 140mph not that I'll ever get to that speed but at least it indicate a much stronger bike than the old one..
the fastest I went on my old Fazer 600 was 120mph and that was a bit to fast for me.
I dont suppose it share the same engine as the Fazer?
anyway any comment ,info would be appreciated. john
