Hein Gerike - A store in decline?
Posted by: locksmith - 07-04-12, 11:15 AM - Forum: General - Replies (32)

My leathers have shrunk yet again over the winter so it's time for some new ones.

I've been getting emails from HG with all sorts of offers I didn't really look at as I never needed anything but got one yesterday that caught my eye as I knew I possbly need some kit. It started off at 20% off any 1 HG item. Scrolling down revealed up to 30% off trading your old kit in, like for like eg a jacket for a jacket.

Now I didn't really expect 30% but chucked my leather jacket and jeans in the car boot and took a drive down there.

On arrival, was greeted by a very pleasant young man. I thought I'd get it out in the open straight away and ask about the trade in after informing him what I wanted to purchase. He straight away said no need to trade in, they would probably be able to give a better discount anyway!

I was looking at their sport style leathers and he said 30% discount, no trade ins or vouchers required  :eek

So I was in luck after all. I like HG gear, it's all I have ever bought and never had a problem with any of it so started to try it on.

As you may know they use the euro sizing which gets a bit confusing. The biggest one on the rail, a 58 was too tight. After some dissusions about ordering in a bigger size (60) the assistant discovered that was the biggest size they do. I didn't really beleive that as we've all seen the size of fellow bikers tucking in to a breakfast and they've mostly got leathers that fit!

So I moved to the Alpinestars rack wher it's even worse. HG only go to 54 I think it was  Sad

Why are they only stocking boy's sizes?????  If you want a good old fashioned XL or bigger they point you to the textile rails. Looking in their catalogue later they do a basic no frills leather a bit bigger.

Very dissapointing, not much in stock, no range of sizes for anyone older than 10 and chucking discounts around, not looking good to me.

Went round the corner to a largish independant multi franshise dealers.  The Dainese racks had an Easter only special of 20% off, mmmmmm.

There was a new out Avro jacket in black and white with flashes of red on it - lovely.
Largest they had was the fabled 58 but larger sizes were available - hoorah!!

The 58 fitted perfectly, enough room in case they shrink over the next few winters as well - bonus. Looked at the price lable, gulp but only about £80 dearer than HG would have been and boy I looked cool with the Dainese branding  Big Grin

I was seriously tempted. OK lets try the jeans on, I happened to look at the price first this time. £300 quid, yes £300. Twice what I was expecting. The wife said try them on and of course they fitted and I then looked uber cool  Big Grin

I'm doing the maths and still kept hitting £544. I really couldn't bring myself to pull the readies out of my pocket :lol

Wifey says have them, you work for it and we've got it, cant take it with you etc etc.

Girl behind counter is shocked and even looked offended when I ask for a better deal  :b  Nothing doing so I walk out thinking the good old interweb will come up trumps, but no. Is there a secret society of Dianese suppliers who will kill a fellow member if he discounts?

So I've got two more discounted Easter shopping days left, will I crack, will £540 slowly become reasonable.

Will I drive back down there at warp speed and leave the shop looking so cool, girls will fall at my feet?

  Serious Daft Question Time
Posted by: purplebear7 - 07-04-12, 08:06 AM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Hi Guys,
OK ... it's Daft Question Time again .. only this time I'm serious  Smile

My mate Mr Google has a trucking load of info on this topic .. but I still can't get an answer .. and it's starting to bug me just a bit. I am NOT into astronomy, the NASA fan club or Virgin space flight .. I'm a Pro Diver, Trucker .. retired  :lol

The International Space Station (ISS) is visible from Earth as it orbits the planet. (but they don't wave back)

I have ben able to work out the flight path direction and angle of altitude and visually 'tracked' it .. for six minutes .. as it passed over the Costa Blanca area of southern Spain .. one dark night. That's a very long 'exposure' time .. most nights you will only get one or two minutes .. according to the predicted tables and your location.

It looks like a very bright star travelling at very high speed across the sky .. bit like a large aircraft .. or UFO  :eek . The flight path changes so we can not see it every night, even when there are no clouds.

It's average speed is said to be 17.500 mph, or thereabouts and it's altitude is around 240 miles above sea level (I think there may be some slight 'wobble' variations with all these figures, but not a lot ?)

The distance around the equator is .. lets say .. 30.000 miles. So the total distance of the ISS orbit loop must therefore be much further than that!

They recon the ISS does a full lap once every 90 minutes .. as you see these 'sums' don't add up .. so my question is:  HOW can that be?

I look forward to your thoughts and calculations. Cheers  Wink      As always .. Stay Safe.  Polar Bear.

  choke lever broke
Posted by: solorider - 06-04-12, 11:03 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (4)

looking on other forums it seems the choke lever is a weak part and as you cannot buy it as a seperate part it gets a bit expensive, when i bought my bike the lever was already broke and the cable has been removed,so im going to use an old bicycle deralier handlebar lever to make a choke control,i have an outer cable but just need an inner, but i will try and make an alloy lever with a bit of alloy i have spare (i have had it nearly 30 years so it is about time i used it)

Hi all, I've been visiting this site for the last year or so  but I never got my ass in gear until now to register. I've got a blue gen 1 which I've owned for about a year, R6 shock mod (thank you Luke), Ivanised (only fitted this morning by that very nice man from spain, thank you Mike) Metamachex swingarm and other bits. Cracking bike, especially with the mods. Have done a couple of trips on her to Scotland. Looking forward to BSB meetings etc. Also interested in any Fazer meets.

If i've done it right I should have attached a pic of my pride and joy. While I'm at it, one is also a proud owner of FZS 2001 600

look forward to any replies or sarcastic comments

  R1 Exhaust cans
Posted by: elektrikAlien - 06-04-12, 07:08 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

I'm sure it's been asked before, but is it easy/possible to fit an R1 end can directly  to an fzs1000 -?
If so, what year R1 is best to go for, and do you have to do any further mods - ( carbs etc ?) - or is it just a straight bolt on job?
Thanks
