  Should I buy a carbtune?
Posted by: DryRob - 24-05-12, 10:42 AM - Forum: General - No Replies

I'm thinking of buying one but wondering if it's worth it? I don't know if my next bike will have carbs and it seems abit expensive if I can only use it on the fazer every once in a while.
Are there any other uses? The website says it can be used on injection engines but is this just marketing spiel?

  Exhaust DB :(
Posted by: ghostbiker - 24-05-12, 09:30 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (1)

Went to castle combe 2 weeks ago and had my 2004 FZS1000 noise tested with a blueflame twin port on, tried with 1 baffel 109 DB and a fail, tried with both in and hit 106.5 and a fail. (got to be 105 at 3/4 throtle so 9k rpm for the gen 1 )
now it passed with just a single baffel in at brands but they check it at 5-6k rpmso i put on the OE exhaust i kept and tried it again yesterday.
101 db and a pass Smile so at least i can do the castle combe skills day in a few weeks time.

but WOW dose it kill the feel of the bike, its just destroyed the midrange and the top end bhp.
the bike feels so flat and at higher revs feels like the engine is in pain lol
With the full monty and ignition advancer would the bike now be running realy rich as it cant get the power out or is it purely just the exhaust outlet thats strangled
prob gunna leave on the OE for a few weeks as not sure i can be arsed to keep swaping them over but wanna make sure its running as best it can with the oe on.

Hi guys and gals,

I know this has prob come up b4, but cant help to refresh us lesser mortals lol

I never get my drive chain tension perfect, never seem happy with it , so , what is the concensus on adjusting it correctly/best, i had read just resting on the s/arm rubber, 50 mm etc, but in genral, what is the norm we are using here ?

Cheers.

  FZ1 Front Brake Pads Rattling!!
Posted by: Fazerjon - 24-05-12, 07:20 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

My front pads are rattling around in the calipers on my 2012 FZ1N. Ive done 1800 miles and am using the bike for work everey day. When I go over a bump they rattle and clonk. If I take them out and copper grease the back and edges I'm hoping this will cure the problem. Its still under warranty at the moment so worse case it can go back. (I Don't really want the knobheads who did the 1st service and f***ed it up touching my bike really though!)
I just wondered if anybody else has noticed this problem on their bike?  :rolleyes

  Back in the Saddle

Greetings all : )

After 20 years as a bike mechanic, and living a bike related lifestyle, I gave it all up about 7yrs ago to get married for the 2nd time and start a new life.

Big mistake!

So here I am, on to my 2nd divorce, living in a spare room and wondering what next. What else could it be, really?

Yes, the '98 Fazer (damage repairable) bought 23rd May 2012 is in the back yard, front end already stripped out and being checked over, rear plastics are being 'welded' back together in the kitchen. Engine is up and running nicely and the hunt is on for the new headlamps etc to tidy up the front.

Why the Fazer? When you have seen the abuse these bikes can survive, and the fun they can offer, they are perfect allround choice.

Expected OTR is end of June, then a few good shakedowns and off we go to the Bulldog. Happy days are here again : )

  Bloody annoying
Posted by: Gingernutz - 23-05-12, 11:07 PM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

I'm back on the bike for the summer, it was laid up for a month waiting for new tyres (or at least money for new tyres). Gave them a good run in over the past week but haven't been happy with the bike. Mostly commuting so not had many decent runs. Today I 'got lost' and took a 50 mile shortcut. The engine was noisey and I could 'feel' the chain wasn't quite right. I figured it was time to adjust the chain so just went out to sort it out. It was only then I realised  the chain was totally over tightened. I've sorted it now but christ knows if I have done the engine damage. This must have been done when the new tyre was put on. Last time the same company sold me new rubber the set the tyre pressures up wrong so the front was far higher than the rear. Took me a few days to figure out why the handling was terribel - thought it was just new rubber. As far as I am concerned its two stirkes and they are out = annoying to have to travel out of the area to a new shop but I won't trust these guys again. Should I tell them or would I be wasting my time?
