  What's this noise?
Posted by: Lawrence - 16-06-12, 07:55 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (11)

Hi guys, calling on your technical knowledge here... My bike has started ticking, any idea what it is?  This is from stone cold and it stays there even when hot.

Any idea?
Ta very much  Smile

Please excuse the horrible red bits, the last owner decided to paint bits of it and now I have to work out how to strip it without taking all the other paint off  :rolleyes

Hi,

I've just bought a 51 plate fazer 1000.

Needs a bit of work doing to it to put it all back together - but the engine runs so that is a bonus.

Got some parts on order and hopefully it will be ready for an mot in a few weeks time.

  Powder coating wheels
Posted by: adeejaysdelight - 16-06-12, 02:57 PM - Forum: General - Replies (9)

The wheels on my little 125 run-about have started to corrode on the inside and can't hold the air in the tyres (after only 10,000 miles in all but the worst of weather). I was going to buy some replacement wheels from ebay, but there is nothing to say they won't suffer the same fate. I heard powder coating the wheels will resolve the issue. I have also read powder coating wheels can cause them to weaken. Both options will cost the same, so money is not a factor. Have any of you Foccers done this before, and if so, what was your experience?

  REAR BRAKE
Posted by: jason1 - 16-06-12, 02:23 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

Hi all , know the rear brake has been covered but just fitted new ones to mine this morn. Pistons were a pig to push bck , infact right piston was locked up. So ive soaked cleaned them until moving but still stiffer than should be ( i guess)I fitted the brakes anyway and bled the system till all new fluid. Bck wheel seemed to run free when pushed round. Then took her out for a spin and brake felt good , but when stopped the disc was very hot and stayed hot for min or so . Would this be a sticking brake or just bedding in ? Should say disc is grooved up slighty but doesdnt seem warped or over worn. Any ideas would be great.  Big Grin  Was thinking of taking the caliper off again and soaking pistons longer  :rolleyes

  OMG Potentially fatal.
Posted by: fishwibbler - 15-06-12, 11:48 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Hi all,
After some advice after my rear wheel valve stem came loose on the way home today (motorway speeds) so pressure went from 35-36psi/2.5bar to bog all and I was burnin' rubber on a semi flattie. Managed to get home and rolled her into the garage and attached a track pump, but the valve "innards" came away in my hand. I think it's a push to fit valve and the rest of the valve, a big rubber bit,  is still within the wheel gubbins somewhere. What's the best thing to do here?
Any and all advice appreciated.
Cheers,
fish.

  Back after toooo long away.

Hi (again?) folks,
I was a member here years ago, having a year 2000 Fazer 600 in black (the fastest type!), remembering folks like chalky, tcat, rubbermat et al. Sorry I've been away so long and it's great to be back. Still have the bike - must be a decade of ownership now, which makes this the longest I've ever owned a vehicle. That in itself speaks volumes about the awesomeness of the bike.
I've done the twin light wiring mod from years ago with super bright bulbs, plus the obligatory stainless header pipe swapout after the original mild steel ones developed some, ahem, "vents", changed the air filter to a K&N to free up the midrange, had a go with a double-bubble airblade screen, plus a custom under the seat immobiliser thing. A bit of a tinkerer if I'm honest.
Big shout to the all you guys and gals from me in North Cardiff (Rhiwbina)!
Cheers,
Mark (aka fishwibbler/fish)
