  Car Oil in Fazer 400?
Posted by: fazer400 - 26-06-12, 08:08 PM - Forum: Fazer 400 and other models - Replies (8)

Hey guys, ive seen some posts that say its ok to use car oil in a motorbike. I have a fazer 400 and i could nt fine any bike oil after visiting 4 petrol stations so got some car oil instead.

I got Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 a3/b4 part synthetic for petrol and diesel cars.

Ive seen that e o oil isnt good and i dont see any references to eco stiff on the bottle. The closest reference it says is: castrols magnetic intelligent molecules bond to metal surfaces to make engine parts more resistant to wear.

Is this stuff safe to do an oil change on. My 1997 fazer?

Thanks guys

  fazer bhp
Posted by: robcaton1234 - 26-06-12, 07:59 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

when I purchased my 08 plate fz1 fazer in march I did so under the impression that the power output was 150bhp...it even said so on the advertisement board in the showroom. I also read reviews about the fazer that stated the same thing. Recently I bought and had installed a power commander, with a custom map done on a dynojet rolling road. I'm more than happy with the power commander...it seem to have smoothed out the acceleration and made the bike easier to handle for a novice like myself. It wasn't untill I got home that I looked at the power output printout, which showed a 'before' of 136bhp and 'after' of 138bhp!!!???? Can anyone shed some light on this for me? The only modification I've done is to install a k&n air filter....everything else on the bike is stock. How has the bike lost 14bhp from new? It's only done 6000 miles!!

well Benny has left to go to his new home, my lovely fazer, who sat patiently waiting for me to be able to ride him again.

on the plus side, he bought a huge grin to Chris who has bought him

on the minus side - he is now having a sex change, as men can't ride male bikes apparently

thank you Benny for all the fun we had - enjoy your new home

  balancing carbs, funny(ish) story
Posted by: HarryHornby - 26-06-12, 04:54 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

I balanced the carbs last week and found out in the process that my fan does indeed work and cuts in fine when the engine is hot, how do I know?

There I was, head burried in the engine trying to get the screwdriver on the balencing screw (for the umpteenth time that morning) and all of a sudden...VRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM,  :eek  there was that initial reaction of jumping out of my skin, leaping away from the bike thinking "F*CK what have I touched" before I then realised the fan had cut in as it's supposed to!  :rolleyes  :rollin

Bleeding the front brake: lever distance from the bar
Posted by: b1k3rdude - 26-06-12, 03:55 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

Got a question regarding my bandit 600 (commuter, the thou only comes out on nice days)  -

Recently serviced the front callipers, replaced all the seals and flush the system through with new fluid. The only remaining issue that I cant seem to resolve is the brake lever-to-handle bar distance, in that its coming back too far to the handle before the brakes are applied. But that said when the brake are applied they work well and as expected. Also I have braided hoses fitted.

I have done the cable tie-overnight trick now several times so if there was any air in the system its gotta be bleed out by now.. I even swapped the master cylinder over with a spare one off my fazer 1000 and the same thing is happening.

So does this mean the seals in bandit and Fazer MC's need changing..? as its the only thing left to change I can think of...

  My odometer is in KMs...?!
Posted by: lolliver - 26-06-12, 02:44 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (8)

Hi all,

Just went for a little blat to Bristol and back while the weather was k, and noticed that my trip meter is measuring in KMs not miles. Does this mean that the bike's mileage is not 42,000 miles, but 42,000 KM? ('98 FZS600)

Apologies for sounding thick, but I'm a bit thick  8)
